The "s" word.

No question, just a PSA.
Try to refrain from using the word "stupid". There's really no effective way of using that word. I makes people mad, and makes you look, well... If you find yourself tempted to use the s word, take a step back, and find another way of getting your meaning across. I guarantee you will "win" more.

Damn I thought it mean the other "s " word... maybe I must be "s" or someting?

Ah, but there are times when somebody really is displaying stupidity, and the intent of calling them stupid is to affect them - making them mad will do nicely

Stupid does not mean lacking in intelligence in context. I think if people (those who are real humans anyway) are confronted with a real handicap they would not use the word. It has come to mean having intelligence and not using it.

Though I am of at least average intelligence, I have done some stupid things in my time. We should move past the watered down, bland, meaningless, PC version of the language.

I was hoping for the other S word as well. It's only half as many letters, too.

Now I feel stupid for coming here. I was tricked. I fell for the old bait and switch con.

What if you round out the insult to put less emphasis on the 's' word.

i.e. bignosed, sheep shagging, stupid, inbred, village idiot. (no im not just talking about the welsh!)

So by insulting a person on multiple levels then they wont focus so much on the stupid part thus being less offended by the 's' word.

I've 20 minutes to kill, so here goes..

In my opinion the OP is right.

However much you want to rationalise it, the word "stupid" can only be understood as pejorative and to an objective observer would say more about the relative intelligence of the person using the word, than the person on the receiving end.

For the most part it's all relative and depends on context, in the sphere of mathematics and physics we're all pretty "stupid" compared to Einstein, but could he service a car or throw a ball straight, or do the Times crossword?

Obviously if you're just throwing insulting names around for sport and to get a reaction... well I can respect that.

But to be honest if you want to do that by calling into question the quality of someone's education or knowledge of the wider world.. why not just call them a Yank?

There was a guy trying to build a spaceship in the middle of my medieval village.

I watched him rez prims, gently position them, adjust and fine tune.

Then autoreturn would kick in and all his prims would go poof.

And he would start again....

Eventually I messaged him and said:
'Excuse me. I am sorry, but you can't build spaceships in the middle of my village. Auto-return is on and your prims will continue to return to you every five minutes. If you want, you can go over to my other island and your can 'sandpit' building there. I am not using it yet, so feel free '

His reply 'I will build where I want, b***h'

He continued to try his constructions where he was. I left him to it, lol
