If he doesn't know what he's taken on ... then he's not up to the job in the first place. What kind of idiot leaves a good job to jump into the unknown - unless he's got a HUGE salary plus benefits package (which will result in him getting rich and SL going down the pan)?

I agree with giving the guy time to get his feet wet. Starting a new position, mountains of paperwork, tons of personal.

Learning a new job and all the dimensions that entails isn't easy. Let him get comforable in the position before meeting the public of SL. Just sensing some of the anger in this thread the guy needs to be ready for abuse lolol

Although he might have convinced Phil and the board that he is 'up to the job', what really matters is whether he can convince us, the residents.

If he will interact with us, listen to us, and taken on board our comments when making decisions, then he has a chance.

If all he's going to do is put prices up, sell us out to Corporate Life and throw advertisments at us at every turn, then he's going to get a hard time, and it's going to be of his own making.

I think if he happily takes the heat from us while he does his boss' bidding they will be very happy with him. And we are already being sold out to Corporate Life. He may not have ahd time to prepare, he may have been flat out last month completing responsibilities at his previous job.

I been at a place where a new manager stepped in ordered sweeping changes the first week, it lost 1/3 it's staff in the first month, nearly all the rest of us went the next month with a large percentage of the pissed off customer base, throwing the company into chaos, they then sacked him, but the damage was done, the company folded 6 months later.

I'd rather just see a "happy to be here, I'm aquainting myself with everything piroritising current issues,and discussing ideas with staff and their ideas and opinions as well" type statement.
