So if we're unsure about one of our XStreet listings, can we ask LL for its view on whether we should de-list it? I'm reluctant to de-list something unilaterally, because LL frowns on re-listing stuff later. Should I file a support ticket about the item to get LL's advice?

I have two items that are questionable, I will just wait to be told they've been removed and live with it. Delisting to put up later isn't a good idea, doing that you can end up breaking more than one of their 'do not…' rules

I don't get this. Why would there be a problem with temporarily removing a product from sale? Because of this… "Disabling and Re-listing Items. This is considered misrepresentation. You have the ability to remove discussion posts for your items that are over 30 days old if you wish. In addition, if you are trying to get more attention for your item, try using an Item Enhancement or placing a Banner Ad." |

So if, for example, there's a critical bug in some script I made and I need to pull it until it's fixed, I can't?
Jesus Harold Christ's Bicycle Sniffing Monkey, that's insane. If they don't like people pushing themselves up in "the list", how about dumping "the list" and making it more like Yahoo Shops where people just do their own pages? _____________________

Relisting is allowed for a major bug fix kind of situation.
https://www.xstreetsl.com/modules.php?name=FAQ&myfaq=yes&id_cat=3&categories=Marketplace+-+Merchants#25 "If you've upgraded your item you may re-list it, but you must clearly explain what's "new and improved" between your original and your upgrade." The point of the rule is to keep people from disappearing bad ratings and reviews. |

I detect a bug on Wednesday. I know I won't be able to work on fixing it until Saturday. I have to keep the broken version for sale for three days? That would be silly and that isn't what that says. You can take an item down, fix it, then relist it _with an explanation_ after it's fixed. But even then relisting is silly, why break links? Make the product unavailable and use the same listing after the fix, and the whole issue is avoided. |

Or is "making the product unavailable" something different from "disabling"? Yeah, it's different. If you for example take the stuff out of your magic boxes and refresh, the same listing is still there, it's just unavailable for purchase. (There is also a deactivate button on the edit page, it can be reactivated later.) What they are talking about is making a new product entry for the same item. If you just disable purchases, all the reviews are retained so the disappeared reviews, ranking history, etc. don't happen. |

So what should I do if I want to take down an item temporarily until I either get permissions from the rights holder or get LL's concurrence that the item doesn't infringe? Click "Deactivate Item" at the bottom of the edit screen? Does doing that wipe out the purchase history, etc., and thus potentially bring me in violation of the rule that you can't re-list stuff?

Deactivate just turns off the purchase button and hides the listing from search. Once you activate again, it pops back up as though nothing ever happened. Product updates are just the kinds of situations it is there for. |

I intentionally pulled this one out and it is only a few weeks old anyway.
I received this notice today for one of the store groups I belong to and I got to wondering....... If I choose to not rename my stuff to match the new names, will I log in one day and suddenly find them gone from my inventory? Additonally, how many more similar changes will be coming, or maybe should be coming, that *might* affect those of us that have already bought items.? And what if my item is no-mod and cannot be renamed -- like my Marilyn Monroe dress and hair? "IMPORTANT NEWS ABOUT POSES: All poses that have a celebrity name are going to be renamed in the next few days. In order to make sure you don't accidentally purchase the same pose twice, I'm sending a list of all the name changes. Please keep this notecard handy as I will not be offering refunds on double purchases. The poses are copy/mod so you can change the names of your poses if you like to match them to the new names." . _____________________

~snip~ If, however, you take a picture of a can of Pepsi, put it on a Tshirt and sell it as "Pepsi shirt" - you may have a problem. Unless you're Andy Warhol reincarnated ![]() . If it would have been technical and judicial possible, Andy Warhol would have sold even the streets of New York where he walked up and down, just because the fact that *he* walked on these streets transformed them into "art". Anyway: this world (RL/SL) is definitely crazy. New religion: "in brands we trust, halleluja!" ![]() |

I'm hoping the new guidelines spark a lot of creativity in folks. Granted, it really isn't any fun to be told "no, you can't make "x" because Big Corporation Inc. is a poncy git" but there are so many people out there that are doing an incredible job of making brand name items that could redirect their energies and make some incredible new things instead.

These aren't really new rules - they are just planning on enforcing the rules that always were there.
You can disable a listing - of course you have to be able to do so if there is a serious problem with it, you can temporarily set it not for sale. You are just not allowed to REMOVE it altogether then put it back on. This is because doing that would also remove any negative feedback. But just disabling it would restore it exactly the same again when you reenabled it - existing feedback and all. _____________________
