Hi there, Hey you guys check out this thread on the Daz forum. They now have an Island in SL! http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=69703 "DAZ 3D has been building an island in Second Life and youTMre invited -- whether youTMre familiar with Second Life or not! Take a sneak peek at what we've done so far. You can surf, jet ski, and scuba dive. Hang out at the beach, tour the castle, and visit the DAZ online island'which will soon be filled with Second Life freebies! ThereTMs even space for online parties plus a large classroom for DAZ software video tutorials and Second Life tutorials as well. WeTMre planning a themed area that will change several times a year (a fairy forest is first on the agenda), a building for the DAZ 3D "headquarters," and garden areas featuring plant renders from LisaB and others. As you visit the island, we'd appreciate your thoughts and feedback. The ultimate goal for the island is to introduce new people to our 3D products and software. All we ask is that you invite your Second Life friends to check it out as well. If you don't have a Second Life account, you can get one for free! If you need any help in Second Life, feel free to contact me, Darlisa Riggs, anytime ITMm online. Just do a search for AeronAoife Grigges (but you can call me “Aeron” inworld). YouTMll be able to first access the island during our Open House on Saturday, October 27. Use the link below to transport directly to the island or do an inworld search for “DAZ Island.” Possibly this has already been posted as the grand opening already happened, if so...oops There is also a new Daz users group inworld that is free to join. Daz is one of the tools that helped introduce me to the world of 3d artwork, and they have steadily improved their product, check out Daz Studio on their site it is free! http://slurl.com/secondlife/DAZ%20Island/135/112/36 "

Hey dood, there are some strange typos in your post.
Once you fix the typos, you may want to repost in a more appropriate forum in the classifieds section.

Yeah I noticed those that is how it was in the original post, it was a direct quote from their forum. And it definitely is not intended to be spam, I personally think it is exciting news and thought others might benefit from the info.

I personally loved the fact they gave away Poser for free for a while. I loves my free Poser. I loves it.

I was there a couple days ago, pre-opening. Not a bad looking place.

*adds this to the list of places to visit* Well, they should be used to a 3-D environment and know enough about SL that it won't go the way of many corporations!
So, this weekend, as I work on a dress.. I'll probably be exploring. I seriously need a break from RL!

Perhaps someone can convince the Daz folks to add complete native support for SL-style-prims and SL-style-sculpties into Daz3D.

It would be nice for Maya and Studio Max or whatever it is to open offices in SL. And Modo and all the rest. Especially if it would lead to them offering native support for SL objects and such.

There's some neat stuff there, seems more for AutoCAD than anything. But Max & Maya have their own lil' section too.

Another great example of differing cultures. When I saw "Daz" mentioned in the thread, I thought what on earth would they do in SL. To a Brit, this is Daz.... http://www.dazwhite.co.uk/Broccoli

I personally will withhold my judgement on if they get the social aspects of SL, and how well "buy our software on the web" will work for them within SL. Mari

Mari I've been promoting Carrara Pro as a method to sculpt map creation for quite a while. Check into the SL wiki and Builder's tips forum every so often, might discover me posting. Judging from the hits on my wiki page and the IM's I've received, I'd say there's plenty of people interested in using it for SL. Both SL'ers who were looking for a method to better sculpt map creation, and Carrara users looking to expand their horizons to a new medium to model in. Sculpties brought a lot of 3d artists to SL from various walks, who otherwise didn't care much for it before. Sneering at the Poser and Daz Studio content creator community isn't particularly a great way to win friends and influence people. A lot of talent over there, and quite a few of them have been migrating over here, adding SL to their list of programs they develop for. Daz merely followed their user base over here. Not difficult to figure out.

DAZ is a fantastic company. I knew they had big plans for SL, but I didn't know they'd actually moved in. I fell out of touch a few months ago with the contact I'd had over there. This is exciting news. Thanks for sharing it, Infiniview.

Sculpties brought a lot of 3d artists to SL from various walks, who otherwise didn't care much for it before. You misjudged my comment. I've no problem with the programs! Heck, we have stuff on Livingtree made usin 'em. I was more commenting on the issues many corporations have in SL. You can make a very pretty place, yet failr to grasp the nuances of the world. This isn't a DAZ problem, but a problem typical of corporate sites at this time. If there is no hook, what will keep a person there or going there? Is freebies made using DAZ enough? Will those freebies encourage people to buy their products? Is essentially pushing people to go off of SL and to their website to buy the product effective? Are there other ways for this to be achieved? I'm not sneering at their product. Far from it. I *want* them to be a success. I hope they do not fall into the mindset that has doomed so many SL corporate regions before. Consider Food (Kraft), Coke, Sky News, American Apparal, Playboy, and many other corporations to enter SL over the last few months. In particular note sites like Armani, which have been struggling -- likely due to the creation of a site that doesn't take into account how SL "works" for its users. One of their issues will be that there's no not a product that can be used within SL. What I mean is it not like, oh, Day Runner coming ot SL an offering virtual Day Runner HUDS which serve to remind people of events and meetings in SL, etc. I suppose we could all have DAZ product boxes on our virtual desks, but for now the method is to send people from Sl to the WWW to buy their product. It hasn't worked too well for other corporations. Maybe they will do better, given their product -- I dunno -- but dis has traditionally not worked out too well. *That* is my concern. I *want* them to do well in SL. To be honest, I don't mind *any* corporate presense *assuming* they get what SL is about, provide content and creations worth their name, etc. otherwise, I'll just visit their website, or not bother with them at all. Mari

Daz is not a large company. Comparing them to Coke is wielding a really large brush. They're a small company, privately owned. Big brutish corporation they're not. Daz has a lot of interest in the 3d content market, given that is their main business. That is certainly not the business of a Coke or an American Apparel. So I don't worry about Daz "getting it". I know several personally who work for them, and they seem to "get it" very well.
