Wait.. did she actually type "threatens content theft?" I thought that was a good thing? Stopping content theft, that is.

I think she meant that it increases the risk of content theft, in which case, I applaud the quick reaction time and pray this doesn't mean issues the rest of the week.

The reaon I think that "content-threatening bug" was a poor phrase for her to write is because those who are so inclined, could decide to try and find it. Imo, the nature of such things shouldn't be made public until, after the event.

Is deletion of an others inventory not theft? If people's inventories truly are being deleted then I can see LL doing this emergency roll. Copyboting has been around so long that I can't see LL going coo-coo over a coping exploit unless it allows for one to copy entire inventories of unsuspecting victims. The same bug the allows for manipulation of someone else' inventory would do that I think.

No. It's only theft when the thief takes possession of the thing that's being stolen.

Yeah otherwise it would just be vandalism.

Hmmm. If this is something that is fixed with a sim update... seems to me it may be prudent to use one's least-favoured alt, until this all is fixed and stable.

I don't see how that follows at all.

LL discover that that there's a new bug, which they can readily fix, in their latest server that allows an exploit to copy stuff in people's inventories and then say, "Well, no rush to implement the fix since if folks rez the stuff it still might get copybotted anyway"? That would be cavalier even by their standards.

I think it does fallow because it is just as easy for SL to code in an 'anti-virus like' client check on the server side that bans any viewer that has certain code embedded within. Yeah I would agree that once that is implemented then its an arms race, LL vs cobybotters. Hiring one whit-hat hacker would save LL a ton of man power and money in the long run.

Hmm. . .Does anyone else suddenly suspect that Lil is the secret alt of Lil?
Maybe, maybe not.

i don't know if i've ever seen such a forceful push of a rolling restart before.

I thought there was one time, before they had rolling restarts, that they did an emergancy upgrade and took down the whole grid to fix something.. Could be wrong.. It was +2 years ago.

Good to see you around Cybin.. :)
