Spartans were/are ick. I hope the Athenians kick their ass. With philosophy. :D
The Spartans had the right idea about kids.

You seem to have a sort of fetish for foxes and coyotes eating young people.

"Shortly after birth, the mother of the child bathed it in wine to see whether the child was strong." (per Wikipedia)

Now that's *my* kind of baptism!

So now you are espousing underage drinking???

I can well believe Spartan wine might kill. It requires a sense of culture and sophistication that goes beyond "See! Kill!" to create a quality vintage.

Only for those that can handle it.

Pep (I've never met a woman that could.)

PS waits for "why would we want to - it's not clever . . . "

PPS to which his response will be "why do so many seem to try, then?"

You *do* realise the difference between reality and fantasy don't you?

Sounds like they were bored, ready to invade, saw dots on the mini map and went for it.

Yep.

Pep (has *never* met a woman that could hold her drink; that's *real*.)

PS Run away? I went for a couple of botles of wine after work.

I'm afraid that suburbia has come to Jessie.
I bought three micro parcels there to see what fun was to be had.
Not a huge amount I'm afraid. It's generally quiet.

A girl bought two big chunks on the East side to build a classic beach house and now a winter wonderland --- and was upset when the militia cam to attack her.

Some parcels are set for No Object Entry, so one needs a good memory for layout and position when attacking over what amount to sort of 'reverse minefields'.

Plus I can't revert the terrain nicely because of the extreme =/-40m terraforming in adjacent parcels.

All the action is on a PI named New Jessie it seems. Some only come back to Jessie for a bit of relative quiet.

If you visit Jessie, DO NOT press the Big Red Button.

"Hold her drink" in what sense? You mean drink as much as you? It has a fair amount to do with body weight, ya know . . .

LOL, "botles"? I can see how well YOU "hold your drink" . . . :D

(But doubtless this is some particular Welsh illiteracy . . . er, I mean, variant spelling?)

Not sure about Lindal, but I'm still a bit mystified. What's a WWIIOLer???? Some sort of combat RP?

I don't recognize any of the names on this old thread, btw. Are they all dead, casualties of some terrible superweapon developed by the opposing side?

WWII Online. Re-enactments and new battles in the context of an MMOG, cf Battleground Europe (http://www.battlegroundeurope.com/).

Early days in SL, folks had trouble sorting out what happened if you left damage enabled on your sim; Jessie became the place for damage-enabled RP. Grudges developed, and then of course war between little armies, and then conflict with the Lindens (involving shooting practice ranges where targets were Linden cutouts), lalala!

LOL, yeah, I figured something like that. But that's gone now? They're just shooting up a suburb?

ETA: I'm actually sort of intrigued. I have some background in military history, and have had some exposure to Napoleonic-era reenactments in RL. And a friend gave me a flintlock pistol and musket for Christmas last year. I can't quite figure out how you would do a reasonable reenactment in SL. Do you wear some sort of HUD with anims so that you aren't just cycling through your AO while people take potshots at you?

Must have been three botttles then.

Pep (I am subject to some degradation of performance in extremis; three unintentional typos in three years - during which I have been less than teetotal when online much of the time - is a record with which I am happy.)
