I have a 2048m plot of land on the mainland, which I use for my store and have owned for about eight months. Over the past two or three months my neighbor has been buying up land and now surrounds my property on three sides. They have constructed very large grey walls, right against the property line, only visible from my property--invisible from theirs--which exist at whatever level I attempt to build, but nowhere else. Now they are complaining that a sensor which gives a landmark to visitors to my store overlaps into their land at 500m and are accusing me of griefing. I am presuming that the Lindens won't be intersted in this at all, but is there anything I can do? I am quite happy to rebuild, but wherever I go, they go.

1. Reduce the range of your sensor ASAP

2. If the walls are transparent on their side, it clearly harassment. AR the walls. Get others to AR them at the same time.

Take photos of the current builds.
Move your build up or down. When they move the walls to match, take photos again. Get a documented record of them moving their walls to enclose your build.

:) i really dont get it ...when i was on mainland i always wish to be in good relationship with ppl who is around me ...
another thing is i really dont know why ppl put big walls ...do they think the wall will help with privacy or smt ?
anyway sometimes can help just talk ...try to tell your problems ...ask for cooperation ..and call them to coffe brake in peace and chat :)
be honest and try on that way ... its very easy to fight and make war , 50% will survive :) but when u reduce your sensor range maybe they will find a way to fix those walls

i wish u luck

Thanks for the tips. I should have added my neighbor has been very aggressive in buying up land. This isn't a residential property, they run a sex shop, mall, club, off the premises. I suppose this is the danger of buying mainland and not just renting, although I must have paid less even including purchase price and tier than I would have done in rental by now.

I have put a few pictures on my new blog. http://www.bearlovers.demon.co.uk/blog.html

ivan supply, how narrow minded in your hippie turn the other cheek and get stomped on all day long, attitude can you really be? This guy is getting seriously griefed and you dare to post your mushy peacenic dribble about "why can't we all get alonGGGG!"

Sometimes you gotta just stand up for yourself, and I certainly hope he does that against this lousy neighbor, and hopefully make him as miserable as possible in the process!

I'm guessing the neighbor wants the land. You could set it for sale at a high price and see if they bite. If you don't mind moving you could make some profit off the land and then find a nice plot somewhere in an established sim where hopefully the neighbors aren't harassing.

I'm with Smoke here. It's just a piece of land. There're plenty of 2048s available on the grid... I'd rake this griefer neighbor for as much as he's willing to pay, then laugh all the way to the bank. He's being the stupid one. I know that it's sort of a bummer about your customers having to find you again, but if they love you, they will come. I moved about 6 months ago and for a while I was worried, but I worried for nothing. It all works out in the end. :) Good luck!

Quick answer to the walls: landscape screens. Phantom, transparent on his side, beautiful scenery on your side. That way, he isn;t the only one who doesn't see his walls; you don't see them either! (Except for ARing purposes.) (Shameless plug: I sell them; some are specifically designed for dealing with land-griefing neighbors.)

Now here's a plus point for Estate land....that couldn't happen too easily!

I think the sensors compalint is just an excuse....it's seems to me their real game plan is to force the OP out and buy up his land so as to complete their jigsaw puzzle. If he complies with the sensor...they'll find something else to complain about next week. I would just hang in there....hopefully it won't't disrupt your business though.

actually i'll revise my comment...Smoke has the right answer.

Set it to an high price......say 12-15 L per sq/m and see if they bite. Don't go way too high as they know you're trying to pull a fast one. With so much land availablel you could maybe find a better commerical area with nicer neigbours at a cost of 5 L per sq/m...pocket the difference.....or buy a nicer prefab Store. :)

Life's too short especially for something that's suppose to be entertainment.....use this situation to your advantage. There's always going to be a certain number of arse wipes in any given social enviroment......be it SL, or IRC channels or forums etc etc

Keep in mind that it will be very difficult to reestablish yourself if you do take the moving option. But if you have a neighbor who is pretty much driving your business away by simply existing, it might be worth it in the long run.

As for turning the other cheek? Many of us have no problem simply waiting out the stupidity of others in SL.

Sounds like they are trying to force you out.

Of course, there are all the right channels, proper procedures, yadda yadda. OR... not that I would SUGGEST this of course.... but purely Hypothetically, you could parcel your 2048 into a grid of 16m parcels at the edges and suddenly take an interest in 50 meter long exploding pigs.

That would be wrong, of course, and karmic imbalance. So I would never recommend it. Nope. Nosiree bob, better not do that...

Yep this is an old trick that was done even by one of the biggest estate owners in SL. No, not Desmond. He is a saint. :) They want your land.

If you want to stay, I am with Har.. get the screens. They work. Otherwise sell high and move on. Personally I would go with the screens and mute the idiots were it me.

Either way.. good luck. :)

think about this.... sell 2048 for L$65,000 (or higher - heck.. try L$80k) to stupid neighbor then go buy a 2048 on nice water somewhere (with established neighbors) for L$30,000 and then cash out the rest for tier for the next few months. a pretty good deal, if you ask me.

i sold my 3596 for L$115k and that's just plain ridiculous. do you realize that's $400US? i mean, really. how could i not? WHO was the fool in that deal? LOL

Did the buyer really need that 3596 sq/m? Thats a shockingly expensive price...when did you sell? Some buyers are pure daft!

OR, if you're really intent on staying..... Just add quite a few lag inducing scripts to your land. ;)

Putting huge walls without making them invisible from YOUR end is against TOS, report them. As smoke suggested, they obviously want to buy up the entire region, so set a high price, and if they dont bite, set it higher, then they will definitely jump at it before you raise it again. As far as you spamming notecard giver, you shouldn't give an avatar a notecard unless explicitly requested, (just being there isnt good enough), make it so it gives a notecard on touch.

Yes on this. Nothing irritates me more then to land at a place and have landmarks, notecards and crappy pop up "don't copy my stuff" deals.

It is nice to land somewhere and just let it load in peace. :)

I'd put it for sale, as Smoke suggests, for a price comfortably high enough to get nicer land somewhere, if it sells. And in the meantime, I'd avail myself of the new 4096 build ceiling, and see how long it takes the neighbors to figure out where your prims went.

Actually, I might be just mischievous enough to script the whole build to move a few hundred meters up and down at random every couple of hours, and test the neighbors' ability to script a countermeasure. I suppose they could just build a monster-megaprim hollow shaft for your build to slide up and down in, but the likelihood of them getting that right without encroaching seems vanishingly remote, and it could be some idle amusement to watch them try. (Might be a little difficult for guests, though--especially while the build is actually in motion.)

Too bad you can't script to check for prims at the approximate level owned by someone other than you within xx meters of your sensor.

If you do go, or perhaps sel make sure you let a few 16m pieces go to landbots so he takes ages to get the whole lot again or he gets adfarmed :)

make sure you price accordingly..if they own malls etc..its nothing for them to have to invest say...750.00 usd inorder to have all the land they want..thats roughly 200,000.00 linden.
