From: Gabriele Graves I remember being told about a place in SL where the power source of the grid resided and it was like a power station with a hamster wheel attached. The myth was that hamsters powered the grid, this was a long time before I was in SL but it caught my imagination.
I once read that if you divided the power the servers for the grid by the number of avatars, it turns out that each avatar consumes as much energy as the average Brazilian. A few weeks ago (shortly after the anti-adfarm policy came out), as I was walking down the street, I got thinking about that, and then I remembered when I was learning about flexiprims, that there is always a wind in SL. Then I had a sudden idea! If LL replaced all the adfarms with wind farms, they'd be able to replace the majority of that energy consumption with an almost free, renewable, Earth-friendly power source. As I continued my walk, I was basking in the glory of the awesomeness that is me, and I started to mentally draft my suggestion to send to the Lindens. A few moments later, I came to a complete stop and thought to myself "you are a complete idiot."

It could have been worse, you could have sent the suggestion to the lindens or bought up all the adfarms to convert to windfarms.

Your story appealed to me - I love the idea of a wind farm powering the grid from flexi-prims - however when the wheel was running the show - flexi-prims may not have been around

From: Morgaine Alter Sorry, but can someone post the landmark link or slurl whatever that is? Thanks. The sim is called Noonkkot and the power station is in the middle someplace. Though slightly less impressive now due to the wheel removal - I took a picture but am not sure how to get it to display here - will look into it and post it if possible.

I might have accidentally autoreturned the hamster wheel from Liome. Ray didn't tell me it ran the whole grid.

I heard Phillip Linden mention that at the SL convention in August. I think the way he expressed it was, "Avatars and Brazilians use about the same amount of energy per capita," something like that.
