I just noticed that the huge pile of islands they had is shrinking rapidly, I counted only six active sets when I looked on the map, most are either offline or just plain disappeared.
I'm guessing that this was part of the plan - to make loads for the planned peak - then reduce down to reduce costs until the next instalment... or can we come up with something more sinister as an explanation?

I thought they were going to film every month? That's what I was led to understand... *giggles* I had a look around, it was very well built, though putting the HUDs BEHIND the TP point is kinda silly. *pokes out her tongue in an annoyed fashion* It took me a few moments to figure out where the HUD was when I realized I wasn't getting it from the instruction boards.

I think Linden volunteered that hardware temporarily, in anticipation of a possible rush, as opposed to the client paying over $700,000 for them

My alt has been there all week and there was few people but it seemed pretty dead like the bunny rabbit and hud that I couldn't locate. Sound I couldn't figure out how to get to work either no clue how the newbies will figure it out if I can't. Perhaps they are brighter.

LOL Sarah!
Kinda related......... does anyone know whether this supposed mass-influx of new residents has actually appeared? I seem to be meeting more new residents than usual?

Someone did tell me they were getting newbies who didn't know how to remove their CSI attachments, which were throwing script errors all over the place P:

This previous Saturday there were 54k online when I logged in. The previous high that I had noticed was 48K a month or so ago on a Sunday.

There seems to be noobs everywhere. I wondered if it was due to CSI also but I've been hesitant to express that assumption.

From: Pierce Kronos This previous Saturday there were 54k online when I logged in. Every evening (well, evening over here) for the last week there have been regularly over 50 k users online, which was an exceptional high before. So yeah, more. Haven't met any though. Edit: Any new ones.... I do need to get out more.

I saw a lot of newbies running around the area, that's for sure. That darned hud you are looking for? It's behind you when you teleport into the orientation section, except it's not called a hud.. it's called a tool bar. No, it has nothing to do with your web browser and yes, it's a hud. They just called it a tool bar to confuse us oldies into doing something else.

I've been talking to a few newbies and the ones born recently have said they are playing because of CSI. I've been helping a few by answering their questions about SL. The welcome areas are definitely busier this past week.
I can't get the sound to work in the CSI sims either so I haven't really played their crime solving game. I guess I'll try it later.

A casual search of the web will show that there are a lot of people who are obsessed with CSI_NY the same way we are all obsessed with SL. I think a lot of them came to give the CSI:NY in SL a look just because of that. They have to, to stay current.

SL's home screen ( http://secondlife.com) has had the CSI:NY promo as its main panel again for the last couple of days, as well. It went away a few days after the episode, then returned sometime last weekend.

the reason i'm asking .. i don't normally watch CSI:NY ... and the "sl" episode did not end with them catching the killer.
i didn't know if that WAS the end ... or if the story is supposed to continue in the future.

From: Novis Dyrssen Every evening (well, evening over here) for the last week there have been regularly over 50 k users online, which was an exceptional high before.... Since I came back to SL (after a year break), and about a week before the whole CSI abomination, the numbers of residents logged in has been consistantly 40-55k during regular peak times. I have not seen a dramatic rise in subscription numbers, personally, but I would not give CSI all the credit for one if there were. SL has been getting a lot of exposure in a lot of different places. Hell, the guy who does the Dilbert comics was in SL on the 30th with a "kick me in the nuts" event. http://dilbertblog.typepad.com/the_dilbert_blog/2007/10/kick-me-in-the-.html

If I remember right, the story ends on an unresolved note, and the producer says it will be continued in another episode sometime down the road.
Hey Burnman. I went there! I kicked him in the nuts! Scott Adams was awesome.

Tried going to the Scott Adams thing, but too many people, and the Scott Donkey (or whatever the last name he used) somewhat broke the big "hey, it's Scott Adams!" vibe.
CSI:NY - SL connection is supposed to be revived in an episode in February, and special events are supposed to continue in SL on those islands (I mean new stuff also added as the weeks continue). I have no idea, though, if any mention of SL will be made between now and February.

Broccoli It was always the plan to have a huge number of sims for the busy opening night, and reduce the number once the initial rush faded. The exact rate of reducing the number was not pre-determined; people were waiting to see the level of demand. There will be a second episode of the TV show in Second Life later in the season; I would expect the number of sims to be increased again for that. New cases to solve will also be released on a regular basis. I don't know what the financial arrangement for CSI:NY was. I am certain, though, that it did not involve the Electric Sheep Company and/or CBS buying all 416 sims that were used on opening night. This was likely a test of a business model that will be used for other large events in Second Life, and LL will figure out what to charge future events when it happens. Disclaimer: although I am working for the Sheep as a CSI:NY greeter, this post is not an official opinion of ESC or CBS.
