Ok, I've gotta admit, I got a little teary eyed when I read the blog about the innovations award to the open source programmers. SO amazingly cool that all these brilliant people would spend their time just fixing little ol SL....

We're just starting to move into Service Oriented Architecture at work, so I really can't speak well to that. But what I am seeing (as someone with 15 years IT experience) is this:

"We cobbled together SL from cheap sh*t and no real plan when we started up because we didn't know where or how far it was going to go and most of us are ideas people anyway. Now we're successful but the hamster cage is falling apart and the megabucks buyout we all dreamed about from our angel investors at the start of this isn't going to happen because one look at our infrastructure and the money people walk away shaking their heads. We're stuck, we couldn't B.S. our way out of this and the hype is dying down, so now we only have one option left and that is to take this seriously and invest the money we've made into doing this right with a scalable architecture. No one who was here at startup really got into that, so now we've been on a hiring binge for three months so someone competent can tell us what to do. Maybe then Google or Amazon.com will buy us out before there.com or someone else crushes us, so we can get back to the San Francisco party circuit. Blech! Flourescent lights make me look like a zombie, SOMEONE GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!"
