ok i'm still having the issues, so is there anyway i can undo the kill process i did on the slvoice spybot popup??

Judging by the screenshot you posted, you had the "delete associated file" checkbox checked when you killed the process. That would have deleted the SLVoice.exe from your second life install folder, and also made the voice function in sl not work. Just reinstall SL and it will replace the file that got deleted ;)
or don't if you love voice as much as I do

I've never understood the anti-Norton crowd. I really love Norton 360. It does its job very well.

For script blocking, I recommend No-Script for Firefox. You'll find a link to it on the Firefox add-on page at mozilla.com.

My reason for disliking Norton- It was a resource hog. Also, I hated the whole "subscription" thing.

And I too use No-Script. Its amazing how much faster some webpages load when you dont allow all the ads to run.

I've heard enough people say that over the years to conclude it can't just be pure imagination. But it's very puzzling to me, since I've been using Norton products steadily for at least 10 years now, and I've never experienced it consume more than a trivial amount of resources. I've always been at a loss as to what people might mean when they call it a "resource hog". I've never found anyone willing to say "I tested precisely how much memory, processing power, etc., it uses, and here's what I found."

In fairness, I have observed it slow down the computer in two ways:

1. Before the days of the commonplace multi-core processor, it was almost impossible to do anything while a full system scan was running. But the same thing would happen during a MacAffee, AVG, and Kapersky scan at the time, so I can't believe that's what people mean. But in any case, nowadays scans don't really make a dent in performance, since you can relegate the scanning process to one core, and use your other(s) for other tasks. So that's a non-issue.

2. Web pages and E-mails do seem to load slightly more slowly after Norton has been installed on a computer than before. I've always taken that as a sign that it's doing its job. Intercepting data in order to examine it and then either OK it or block it must, by definition, slow traffic down a little. The interception does have to take SOME time, after all. It's not magic. But in any case, the slowdown is not enough to be any kind of hindrance, at least not in my experience. I seriously doubt most people would ever notice it. So that can't be it either.

So what is it?

That would seem to be a criticism of commercial security software in general, not of Norton specifically, wouldn't it? While free software often comes with free updates, commercial software usually requires a subscription or registration of some sort in order to keep current. Norton's hardly the only one to do that.

Is there something about Norton's subscription setup in particular that you feel is lacking, compared with other subscription services? Or are you just opposed to subscriptions in general?

don't be too quick to say 'it's a false positive' a virus can be named anything the coder wants it to be.
Personally I would totally uninstall SL

Search for all instances of SLVoice.exe delete any if found and do a full virus scan with avg and spybot S&D.

Install and use CCleaner regularly.

reinstall SL from a fresh client download.

I also hate Norton products.

You're not alone, obviously. But can you help me understand why you feel that way? I'm trying to find a quantifiable justification for the anti-Norton crowd's disdain. I hear over and over again, "It's a resource hog" or "It doesn't catch everything", and such. But no one ever seems to have any specific numbers or first hand details. What am I missing?

Norton used to be fairly good and it started going downhill when it got bought by symantec. More and more bloat this thing is impractically slow.

The problem with symantec is that they suck at doing anything else beside buying utilities made by other companies, norton is today so many bloaty tools pieced together.

Same can be said with nero that tries now to do everything from sound recording to system backup when all we ever wanted was cd/dvd burning

as an example from way back, I had a free utility less of than 1MB, that would back up windows, while it was still running and would also restore it over a running windows without a need to reboot even. (I tried that just to see how damn good it really could be)

That software was taken over by Norton and is now sold as Norton ghost.
The first issue of it as a Norton product was bloated to ridiculous proportions to make it 'more for your money' , functionality of it was totally inferior to how it was first coded by a single person.

All other Norton products I have ever tried have the same feel of being inferior products that have been bulked and hyped up to keep price levels higher than the product deserves.

Having said all that this is not a thread about Norton, good or bad, the OP needs help with a specific problem and we should not distract from that further.

What does Task Manager say about CPU usage by processes?

Go to the Process tab. Click on the CPU column header.
