Foolish actions like this are why I'm waiting before setting virtual foot on these other grids. As for the "prove you own it" thing, textures can be proven fairly easily, the way I see it: Only the owner will have the original files used to make it, such as layered .PSDs. Unless of course they shared them with someone else, but for the sake of argument assume they didn't. Only the creator of a sculpt will have the original mesh and modeler files, too. I guess prim builds can't be proven so easily though, and someone as childish as the "grid diva" seems to be could ignore everything else too.

Considering the way Linden Lab have performed on the openspace issue I don't think we're exactly in the "neener neener told ya so" position over here.

Color me disappointed, but not entirely surprised. Then again, I am biased against LCO.

Until LL takes a major content provider who is providing content in their new user welcome area, locks their account, seizes their content, and continues selling the content - i think we can go neener neener neener all we want. This is about content safety - one of the core aspects that make these virtual worlds work. Not about "pfft SL is still bad so you can't talk about LCO".

From: Ciaran Laval Considering the way Linden Lab have performed on the openspace issue I don't think we're exactly in the "neener neener told ya so" position over here. If LL were confiscating unpaid for OS sims and retaining the content on them to use to sell and promote SL while deleting the account of the owners, then we would be comparing like issues. Ick, the OS grievance is still rearing its ugly head in non-related threads.

A question. How does anyone know that the owner of LCO is selling the "confiscated" content of Simone's?
Pretty presumptuous if you ask me.

No it's about trust, and Linden Lab and LCO have proven they aren't worthy of it. Whether the content maker is famous or not isn't the point, we've had people in this forum reporting accounts being suspended or banned. The OS issue Briana is a cold hard cash issue. It's a bloody important issue, it's wrong, end of and it boils down to a company treating their customers with disrespect, which is what LCO are doing to Simone. There is plenty of ripped content all over the grid, go ask plenty of the content makers who have seen their content ripped off. We're not in demonstrably better or more trustworthy hands over here.

In a bigger distributed WWgrid, opensource sub-grids are like the PIs of the LL grid.
Only potentially worse.
Or to put it a clearer way -
In a bigger distributed WWgrid, renting space in opensource sub-grids is like renting space from 'some person' on a SL Private Island.
Only potentially worse - because they have all your content.

From: Anya Ristow I've not been able to get that to work. Would someone please explain it? Something to do with a hack called Greasmonkey. Not being able to make links clickable is only a small bother for me here.........I live with it. So I haven't looked into it.

I've never understood why people trust these other grids more than they trust LL...

I've said it once... I'll say it again. I ain't leaving SL until a competitor comes along that is equal in tools and better in customer service. This means, I don't trust anyone who is using the SL server code other than LL. I'm just paranoid like that.

I don't see the matter as a trust issue so much as a someone did not pay their bill issue. If you read the whole blog and the responses you would see there's another side to the story. Actually that "other side" makes more sense to me than the blog itself.....but, since I'm not privey to all the goings on in the whole mess I cannot make a judgement call on it.
I have an account on LCO. I've seen Simone's freebies. I've "met" LaLa (the owner). All I know for sure is that LCO has treated me (personally) with respect and because of that I've tiptoed in and rented a quarter sim on a month to month deal......if things continue to look as they do now, I might dive in and buy one of those full sims and give a virutual business a shot. To each their own but it would be nice if you were honest and not comment so viciously about unsubstaniated accusations of theft or wrongdoings.
I just don't believe anyone here knows what happened.....so why all the hoopla? Most here have not even joined LCO......but they hold some pretty strong opinions about it. It's your right to do so.......but I don't believe much of what anyone has said so far. There's no way for anyone to know what happened.......it's pure speculation. And rather vicious speculation too.

From: Sindy Tsure I've never understood why people trust these other grids more than they trust LL... People lose their ability to think when they see something that promises to be better than what they have. This is why get rich schemes sell well yet people don't understand the persons selling that scheme to them are the one's getting rich. If the scheme they were selling was all they say it was they wouldn't be selling it.... 1) Do any of these other grids have a brick and mortar office and directions to get there? 2) Phone support? 3) Any real names behind the people running it? 4) A legal department? If they do is this information available on their websites before you register?

Pretty presumptuous if you ask me. My understanding from what I've read from several sources is that the owner of LCO is distributing the content as part of the new user default avatars. I wouldn't recognize her content well enough to verify that for myself, but it seems it would be easy enough to verify for someone who does.

From: Feline Slade My understanding from what I've ready is that the owner of LCO is distributing the content as part of the new user default avatars. I wouldn't recognize her content well enough to verify that for myself, but it seems it would be easy enough to verify for someone who does. If it's the freebie stuff at the welcome area then I believe those permissions have already been set by the creator of that content. I don't believe becuase someone leaves or is kicked from the grid that the content created by that person autoamatically goes with them.......nor does the content permissions magically change. It apppears to me that the subject of the blog was banned for cause (non payment of bill due). The content that the creator contributed to the grid remains...with the same permissions originally set by the creator. I'll check the next time I'm in LCO and see if those freebies are still there and if so if they are still free or for sale by LaLa Legend. My bet is that they are still there and free........if they are not there then my second bet is that they are no longer available anywhere on the grid. The exact same thing happens here in SL by the way.

Yes, except LL does not go and post your chat log with M Linden regarding the grip you are having with them.

Though after reading between here and SLU, i think Peggy may be on the right track.
I've never been a reader of Prokofy, so after reading him for the first time and it being this issue, I may have taken what he said as responsible reporting prematurely.

From: Briana Dawson Yes, except LL does not go and post your chat log with M Linden regarding the grip you are having with them. And I bet M. Linden would respond on a third party blog site if the blogger slandered him as that blog did........with whatever logs or records he had at his disposal. And, for the record, I just left Simone Stern's shop in LCO.......Style Starts Here. She still "owns" the sim. Her shop is still there an all the items in it are still for sale. To see who gets the Legends for any purchase I bought a couple things..........the pop up tells me I paid Simone Stern. All this drama over practically nothing at all. Now that I've been to SSH, read the blog and the responses, read some of the completely unfounded comments here I now believe LaLa Legend over any one who posted here or on the blog. You know nothing about what happened..........yet you are quick to jump. I call that pretty stupid. Yeah, I said it............STUPID.

Prok is a she and even taking what she said as true which is not very smart in itself that is only one side of the story so it's hard to tell.
