From: Shirley Marquez Many residents clearly want wide open spaces with few people in sight. That's one of the reasons that Openspaces have been so popular; people want land with a lot of visual privacy. That's probably very true for the people who stay with SL. But what about the 90% who leave after less than 2 weeks? I'm guessing the lack of contact is a big part of it. And it's the quality of contact, too. I go to the occasional club only to hear "RUUUUUUUGGGBA" and "hoooooo" and vapid stuff from the DJ/hosts. The rest are dancing bots who don't hoo as much. Are there any "salons" in SL where one can sit and chat? I'd be thrilled to find just 5 people in a sim, intereacting with each other-- and not at a mall.

While it would be nice to have a region hold more people, I don't see the degree of population density as a problem. When I want to be around people, there are plenty of places I know to go that always have people. When I want to putter around on my land on my own, I don't want there to be a crowd.
As long as there are group events for people who want them, I don't see why it would be desirable to increase the population density. Many, many people want their own land for themselves.

I think the population on my mainland area is perfect - me and my partner. No one can "hear" our words. No one bothers us.

From: 2k Suisei people suck Well, no ones stopping you frpm playing on your own bunch of standalone sims by yourself I suspect we a;sp spread a lot because TP is so easy, if we had to walk/run/fly/drive everywhere I think we would tend to live closer together.

Maybe it's because I am a loner in RL- but honestly the people density is just fine. I don't want crowds.

From: Desmond Shang 15,000 prims simply aren't enough to share among even 50 people. True, but that only affects how many people might want to own parcels in a given sim. But a venue like a club or a conference center or a mall or a city park can host a lot of people who don't need to own a single prim in that sim. They only need enough overhead and resources for their avatar to enter the sim and be able to move and interact comfortably.

I do think we need more density, but I don't think the maximum of 50 avatars in a region is the big problem with that. I often see the most beautiful places and only very few avatars there to admire them. That is what bothers me. No need for 100 avatars in a sim, 5 would be a good start!
Does anyone know the ratio between the total land area of SL and the number of avatars logged in? Hmm, I guess we would also have to subtract the number of bots to get at a meaningful ratio...
