I had a load of errors starting to appear on my hippo rent boxes, i use them with a server and a vendor board...has been fine for the last year, but started being problematic recently.

Soooo my partner kept ON about upgrading them...went and got the free update pack, followed the instructions carefully...now its borked, totally, not alittle, not a bit...but totally

Ive checked, rechecked...slept for a few hours...and lokoed at it again...re-read the instructions, i cant find anything wrong my end.

Contacted hippo...one of the customer service reps messged back from offline..but gave no advice (yet)

Anyone else upgraded from 4.1 to the new version? did you have any probs? got any ideas for me to get it going? (ive thought of burning it already)

In the past I've gone the upgrade route and then slowly replaced the boxes with a brand new box when I get the time. Upgrades don't always work well.

I use the web version now though and I find it's much easier to keep track of who has paid and how long is left for when I perform an upgrade.

i was pondering getting the web version to see if it solved this problem...you think it might jump start it back to life? Cause really..the thought of replacing 45 boxes is just really dampening my weekend

at first, after following the instruction for upgrading an older version, they all clocked into the vendor(they advise setting up a new vendor board from the upgrade pack, which i did) but then, it just refused to show anything, i reset a few boxes to see what would happen (id already done the bit where you place the upgrade disc beside each box and update it to the new software but thought id try ) the boxes i reset then showed on the vendor...but then went poof a little while later OR if i tried to use the option to show or hide rented properties...the vendor just stuck at *refreshing database* and zilch happened for an hour.

So reset a box...it appeared...tried to do anything..gone.

there is no reason why this shouldnt work...i follwed the notecard completely..

ive checked and rechecked all the boxes,, the configs for the server & vendor...they all worked BEFORE i upgraded

Im stood in thehippo store now...wondering if i should buy the plug in or ...not if its a glitch...

Don't buy the plugin until you sort out this glitch.

Are the boxes working? What happens if you put the old vendor out?

Check the key hasn't changed anywhere in the config cards.

OK try this, rez a brand new version box, set that up and see if it shows up.

i have one brand new rent box...thats the one i paid and it worked, but it wont show on the new vendor...it did foir a while..but now its gone again. I wonder if because i have ONE new box, its wrecked all the others that are the older version?

i just paid an old version too...i had the messages that it had been paid as usual...but its not showing on the vendor...seems to be a problem with the server..im thinking my only option is to bite the bullet and get the new server version out and change all the config cards in ALL the rent boxes

yes, i did as they said in the notecard...placed the upgrade disc beside it...then voice command UPDATE, it went through the motions fine...just as the note said it would. I wonder if it is the server though..despite them saying the old one will work with this upgrade disc ...im not so sure

To upgrade your server, rez the Server Upgrade Disc next to your server and follow the instructions it chats to you.

"Once your server has been upgraded, you can proceed to the steps below to upgrade your boxes."

That's the normal way, maybe it's too big a change for it to handle from 4.1? I haven't upgraded to 5 yet, I'm still on 4.5.

Maybe I should give it a go and see if I notice anything odd.

oh LORD...iam getting to that about to pucnh the screen stage you know? lol. I tihnk im going to rip it all out and start over from scratch...hmmm maybe when im more calmmmm.

i know i know i know...my partner has been pushing me to upgrade for AGES...but it worked so smoooothly..why fiddle? and NOW...i feel like saying *i TOLD you so* lol

Im not someone who chnages a perfectly adequate system just because i want the latest thing..if it works why change? a couple of error messages last week...made me rethink..

dont know..but i went to hippo and got the upgrader quite sometime ago...when i had a few error messages the other day my partner said i REALLY should use it and do the upgrade...hence the problems now

There are advantages to using V5 - new features that are very handy, especially if you have the plugin. Keeping current is a pain but very handy. He is the one who should say "I told you so" because the upgrade would have been smoother now had you kept up.

why would it have been smoother? the rep i spoke to from hippo said there should be no problem at all, and that some people were on version 3 and it still worked just fine. i saw no benefits with the upgrade for my set up at all, hence not wanting to change something that worked.

thank you for your helpful input...and for making me feel that this is somehow my fault- i hope i can be just as generous to you oneday when you need a little assistance

Oh yes, well, vendors should happily work as the new version, you might have a long painful weekend ahead of you if you need to change configs, or maybe you could try version 5?
