The moles should get together and open up a set of private sims with the same layout and builds. They could make a killing by making residents stick to the theme and selling the plots out for 10x what they paid.

Double prims are only attractive so long as the price of the land is reasonable enough to offset a larger tier over the course of ownership of the parcel. Failing that, I'll take on the tier and get myself a larger parcel elsewhere.

I doubt they'll ever go that far, covenanting mainland. It would be too destablizing to both Mainland sims and Private Islands. They make good money on private islands and don't do too badly on mainland. The main draw of private sims is structure and covenant. The main draw on mainland is the freedom. A large number of island owners would suddenly disappear, and LL would be stuck with all those private sims that have been abandoned, not to mention P.O.'d mainlanders. It would be too drastic a move. They might come out with some form of middle ground, like special mainland sims that have covenants, but go all the way and covenant all mainland, unlikely.

From: Marcel Flatley
Really hope this kind of sad behaviour finally is a motivation of starting convenants on mainland sims. Because it is too sad for words that this kind of people can ruin something that was ment to be pretty, so fast!

I've noticed last night, in front of the water treatment plant, a pair of vastly oversized pink-and-blue poseballs sitting on a Route 66 adjecent parcel (a newbie was also busy sitting on the blue one which did, indeed, have an animation in it). The land owner, one of the avvies who has bought a lot of Bay City land (he's the reseller who prims over the lot, puts up a "for sale" sign, an sets the parcel as damage enabled). The parcel is listed as the Bay City public sex and combat range or something like it. Land griefing, public statement, or art?

Also, the owner of the wild west builds and the temple in Docklands, and who also now has the plot behind mine, is building on it. A huuuuge skyscraper making full use of gene replacement megaprims throughout. Seems to be affecting performance, but I also know that's a sim edge, so I'm unsure. Abuse and land griefing -- or just a builder with a somewhat different idea of what he wants to do on his multiple Bay City parcels?

ok if i read Wildfire's post regarding the intended design for BayCity, isn't that an sort of an unofficial "official" covenant?

The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

Only if they police what people build, which I doubt they will ever do...

They haven't done it yet. They seem to have taken down some TOS stuff (like when somebody's build sticks out into the road too far or something), but that's it. I bet they haven't even said anything to anybody.

If this is the guy I'm thinking of (profile says he does a lot of world travel and speaks fluent Japanese), it's an extortion build. He seems to be the single biggest winner of Bay City auctions, so he's obviously got some RL money to throw around. I think he's smart enough to make things just awful enough that people will notice and want to fix it, but not so out-there that it's AR-able. I think he knows exactly what he's doing.

That was the sense I was getting, though this one might be a little closer to the borderline (even ifor a mature sim). Not 100% sure, however.

I think the pink and blue balls on route 66 was an attempt to draw down land prices for that area.. I know I didn't want to be next to a combat porn room lol..

Oh, good point. There are/were active auctions next to it.

The way I look at Bay City -- and SL lands in general -- is this. Nothing is permanent. Those who choose to build bad karma (see the long thread about my former neighbors) rarely remain for too too long.

Oh, I remember that thread.

It all reminds me of a case a couple of towns over from where my RL alt lives. It made big headlines locally, a few years ago. Somebody wanted to set up a...well, decidedly ADULT juice bar; everybody in town made it very clear that such a place was NOT welcome. The town council (and local groups) tried every possible trick they could think of to make it illegal for the place to open. The proprietor fought them tooth and nail for a long time, and eventually a State court ruled that the town had to allow him to set up the juice bar. The victorious proprietor opened his venue with much fanfare and all kinds of braggy, self-righteous clamoring in the papers.

I think the place closed in a little over a year.
