Well it started out as just a painfully tasteless and out-of-theme build, but the land-flipping jackass (whom I won't name here, but whose name is certain to leak out somewhere in the universe of third-party SL forums) who owns one of the lots across from me on Bay City - Docklands finally showed his true colors last night. Behold his extortion build:

Please don't ever do business with this jerk. My neighbor and I have both abuse reported his build.

Here's the original build the guy put up, as if this weren't bad enough already (thanks for the pic, Quiplash).

That is _such_ an amazingly stupid thing for him to have done. Apart from it generally being prohibited, of course, can anyone imagine that the Lindens aren't going to respond to a land griefing AR on their new flagship sims in double-quick time?

I must get a picture before it vanishes....

I wonder how LL will react now that it is their pet project that is getting made into garbage?

Ugh. Wonder if anything will come of the AR? I hope so, and they at least take down the walls.

What I am wondering is what would be the reason for the AR? After all, it is his land, he puts up a build and 2 ugly walls as far as I can see. That is not against the TOS is it?

Don't get me wrong, I think he is an @ss as well, but this might not be resolved easily. Kind of sad for those who payed way too much money for a parcel in what might become just another wild west sim. This will not stop as long as they do not zone sims and put some kind of convenant down on it as well. Wishing you all good luck in fighting this weirdo though!

Once more I am glad renting a parcel on Estate land...

The walls seem to be gone already, actually, so that just leaves the travesty of a "house" with all the float text saying "Klick for Notcard". At L$241/m2.

I am wondering about that too. I don't see how they can keep puking out parcels at auction when the resulting sales (to people not interested in the theme) are ruining the prospects for the entire project. I never understood how they thought Bay City would take shape without some kind of covenant.

Wow, that was fast. :)

Also, @Marcel, the "visual spam" (i.e. ugly signs for promotional purpose) is officially AR-able because the land was on sale for a way-above-market price. This is part of LL's new anti-land-extortion policy. You can't AR someone for selling their land at a stupid price, but you CAN AR them for putting up an intentionally horrid build in order to pressure neighbors into buying it by destroying their view.

Having popped in and looked at the borders, I think that the walls disappearing might actually be down to auto-return rather than AR or a sudden outbreak of taste. One of them certainly looks like it was on Linden land from the picture.

Without being able to visit the place (at work, wasting time on the forums), is the price way above market price for the area? Since I see the amounts that are being payed in the auctions, I can imagine that the actual selling price for a landflipper is even more insane.

Really hope this kind of sad behaviour finally is a motivation of starting convenants on mainland sims. Because it is too sad for words that this kind of people can ruin something that was ment to be pretty, so fast!

If that were enforced, most of Bay City would likely be empty. ;-)

It's a 1024m lot listed for L$249,000 ($936 USD), which is around L$120,000 more than most similar-sized lots there are going for at auction, so he's trying to sell at almost what most people are currently willing to pay.

Good god though, who needs land griefers when there is so much utter crap there which is not even for sale?

In roaming around the Bay City area, I noticed most of these plots were priced between $L160K and $L200K, so while his price is high, it is only about 33% above market prices.

There are no walls at this moment.

Listed for 249,000, but the land description says 'Want a lower price? That's no problem. Contact me please"

So..what's the problem? I understand the walls, but those seem to be gone now, and yeah

Strange, and enraging. It seems some users are still going through the "MINE GIMME" stage of their lives.

Also, that's a nice house.

i biked past that place last night after grabbing my pizza box of goddies, ugly house with choppers on the roof, no taste. there were no walls when i went past, sore a place that looked like a run down shack and another plot with a grave on it and some banlines. i hope LL learns and the next time they do something like this they place a covenant on it

on the otehr hand i spotted some things i didn't see when i was last there, i really liked the rockers joint and the planet thingy that the moles built. made my way to the infohub where i moved like molassis and kept hearing the same noise repeated over and over so promptly tp'ed home. :)

That's the house (and helicopter) I saw on my recent stroll through Bay City (except at the time it was just a quasi-normal looking house without all the embellishments).

AND...what made me stop and do a jaw-drop, he's one of the "allowed residents" on my neighbor's land - the one with the security orb that warned of ejection on my property.

That guy gets around!!

Aside from the helicopters on the roof, tacky signs, the single-parcel weather system? How about palm trees? Here's a Linden description of Bay City:
From: someone
The style is the American urban experience, between 1940 and 1965, perhaps best typified by Chicago circa 1950 and marked by a distinct deco influence. Most parcels will be around 1024 square meters and “join and divide parcels” will be turned off at the estate level. Residents can still build across parcel boundaries if they own, or have permission to build on, adjacent parcels; but by not allowing parcels to be joined or divided, we hope to influence the “scale” of builds in Bay City. A preliminary map of Bay City can be found at on the wiki HERE.

The same way they react to everything else..........

And hey! What's all this bad karma over helicopters?

Griefing and Bad Builds allowed.
05-28-2008 18:24
I believe Bay city was the Lab's attempt to simply let land holders have a few more prims by having un-build land in the same regions. So rather than have empty space they put some nice roadways and buildings.

But eager land flippers saw the opportunity and pounced. The following buyers all eager to share in this windfall of extreme profits in some fantasy for utopia. US$1000 for a 1024 parcel? You have to be kidding.

But alas, it was a brief storm and it will end. Extreme Prices cannot be maintained. Bay City cannot really be much different from anywhere else with no covenant for governance. Bad builds are ALLOWED.

Somebody will have to carry the cost and clean up the mess. Don't let it be you. It certainly won't be me.
Just my opinion...

Aside from the helicopters on the roof, tacky signs, the single-parcel weather system? How about palm trees? Here's a Linden description of Bay City:

I see very few problems when comparing it to other parcels in the sim, hon.

Caddy-corner to this house are some more palm trees, they're placed a few places in the sim. The helicoptors..OK that's a bit stupid, but oh well, his house, right? I see cars elsewhere in the sim that are obviously modern and not '50s/'40s era. The helicoptors are no worse, in my opinion.

The tacky signs? you mean the ceaser bit or the land selling info box? The box I say is bad, yeah, but the ceaser bit.. so? His choice. I didn't really notice anything else there in the way of signs, I'll go back and look in a moment.

And guess the weather system was clear skies when I was there...didn't see it.

Anyway, this thread was about land griefing, not bad decorating. His parcel description says ask about a better price, has anyone done that? Maybe he just wants to make sure it goes to someone good, so he marks it way up at first. I know I would in that area.

As far as I can tell, there is no land griefing going on here, just bad taste.

You think the house with the choppers on the roof's bad, check out the neighbour. There's a sort of Japanese/Buddhist/serious plumbing problem 'theme' going on there..LOL!!

I'm only jealous..because the $L120,000 I was prepared to pay for the 912m I fancied wasn't enough..in fact it wasn't enough by a staggering $L160,000 - final price $L280 'grand'.

Oh well it's nice to know that they might have all the cash to spend, but they've got no taste what-so-ever. Apparently it's a common problem with the 'Nouveau Riche'..;)

LL cleared up the grief walls. Now it's just an ugly-ass out-of-theme build that wouldn't be allowed on any themed estate with a covenant.

Too bad it's mainland ^_^

It won't stay even remotely themed for long in all likelihood.
