The "learning client" - which seems to have gotten buried in the other discussion - is an absolutely fantastic idea, but RLV wouldn't do the trick; when it triggers things they happen silently. Ideally, a learning client would just have a second mouse pointer that the instructor could control. As for the "obedience" issue, I think it's more a case of realism for those who prefer it. Yes in real life you can be tied up or collared but that doesn't automatically make you obey, as anyone who's tried to walk a recalcitrant dog will know. I think the issue that some people have with it is that it's a way to force obedience without either the dom or the sub having to learn subspace induction, which granted is not for everyone, but is something that both might enjoy much more if they learned it (but it's hard to learn).

From: Love Hastings What is "subspace induction"? I'm a bit careful as this isn't something I know well enough to explain, really - "subspace" is a mental state that's involved with RL BDSM, which can essentially give someone the feeling that, even though they're obeying commands with their own actions, they're still out of control. It's something to do the fact that BDSM forces them to accept that they're suffering things which ought to be awful (pain or humiliation or similar) but they're enjoying them, which is paradoxical and kind of causes a fuse to temporarily blow.. but it's not something I completely understand. So how can I post it? Because I've experienced it to some extent.. I once witnessed a scene played (in text-only) by a domme who was good at it. I wasn't the sub, I was just observing, but still the effect was profound.

From: Love Hastings What is "subspace induction"? Inducing subspace in the submissive. As Yumi described, it's basically a state where the submissive enters a mental space where they do not perceive themselves as controlling themselves in a way -- the responses are voluntary in the sense that the nervous system still has to tell your body what to do, but at the same time mentally the submissive feels completely at the control of the other, completely beyond their own control, other than the merely volitional actions complying with the stated requests of the other. It can create a profound sense of satisfaction for the submissive due to the perceived "depth" of the submission undertaken, as well as a powerful bond between the submissive and the dominant ... it can create a very intensely intimate space. Generally it requires: (1) a dominant who knows what he/she is doing in this area, (2) a good deal of trust between the dominant and submissive in question, probably built up over time and (3) open minds all around.

I've been in this subspace. It can be both good and bad. I was in it when that prior Mistress messed with my mind. One of the reasons it affected me so much.

I think sub-space is different for different folks
For me its a natural high i get when giving up control and the actions of my master/mistress take me past physical pain into a 'place' beyond...
Its really hard to describe for me, especially without getting into specifics, but for me RLV helps me experience this in SL
Marine: thank you so much for taking the time to create RLV it wasn't here when I first checked SL out years ago, and its made a tremendous difference in my enjoyment of it.

From: Marine Kelley PS : About the settings not resetting to "Second Life Release", I am aware of it but have no solution yet. LL has changed the way settings are handled since 1.20, and I'm still struggling to find a solution to this problem.
Ah, it may be due to the way that the settings of the new SL 1.20 version is structured and coded. I hope one day for a resolution to the decreased login screen functionality, although users are still able to login to Second Life with no problem. A work-around is for new users is to create a separate user account in Windows and install Second Life, then unpack and install RestrainedLife.exe in the separate account. This work-around would be suitable for short term contract slaves and for doms trying out RL for switch, demo, etc. Leaving the Second Life in the main Windows account for long term vanilla / dom use.

This is a smudge OT, but I'm going to do it anyway. Across the street on SLU we have a "BDSM Interest Group" with our own little forum. There's 50-some members, and a goodly number of threads. I am the founder, and all three of my girls are members. Although non-members can post, they generally stay out, so we have avoided trolls and other such low forms of life. Please feel free to join us. We don't bite - at least unless you ask us to. Welcome spankies are available at no extra charge.
