No I don't use it, and would only turn it on in exceptional circumstances - perhaps to listen to a lecture.

As long as any of my friends are not on voice I wouldn't want to exclude them.

Don't want to listen to annoying shrieking swearing idiots, or random piffle.

Babbler doesn't work in voice.

Above all, I like to have a couple of seconds to think what I'm saying and decide if it's worth saying, before I chuck it into the conversation.

I guess I'm just more comfortable with the written word anyway.

Another no vote here. It would seriously interfere with my music hopping hobby anyway.

I use it, mostly when watching movies in SL with friends. It is a lot easier than trying to watch video and read the chat text at the same time ;)

I have to admit I was wrong about voice. Though I wasn't for or against it when it first came out I thought for sure there'd be a strong resistance period at first but by now everyone would have adapted and it would be common place. Being among the majority that don't use it and don't plan to, I don't think that day is going to come any time soon.

I disagree with those that say that voice was a big mistake. I'm certain that some of the larger corporations that LL is trying to woo would have no interest in SL without voice. Just because it's not in use by the common man or woman does not mean it has no purpose.

I will use only to avoid massive amounts of typing. Otherwise, nope.

I think a while back i was dead set against it, however, after trying it out with only my close personal friends I feel it is a great tool sometimes. I hate explaining things in text, and the misunderstandings that come with not hearing the voice talking is huge, what would once have taken a complete day to resolve, can be explained in under an hour with voice. The use of it is the real question, when appropriate, I think it is a nice tool to be used at times just like any others.........in moderation.

It's interesting how many people have said no to this question.

I'll use voice sometimes.. other times I won't. It really has nothing to do with my situation.. just some times I feel like taking out the microphone. Other times, I don't feel like taking out the microphone.

Many times, the people around me choose not to use voice.. so, text, is still a required communication venue while using voice.

The last thing I need while operating inside SL is something else (Voice) chewing my CPU, memory and bandwidth.

Voice might be run off separate servers, but I don't have a separate client PC and separate ISP's DSL line for it :)

I think I have a microphone somewhere in a cabinet.
Headphones? Nope - and I don't want gawdknowswhat blaring out in my workplace/home.

Voice could be good for picking up on some of the intent and character behind the avatar.
I can see that business meetings help in-world could benefit from voice.

Text is good for history of negotiations and dealing with abuse.
Text is great for giving people unskilled in the particular language a chance to translate.
Text is really great for masking out the effects of poor speech and regional accents that can block understanding.
Text is the only option for the speech-impaired.

I use voice whenever I can because it's faster than typing. That said I don't use it often as it seems to be broken most of the time :|

I enabled voice when it was in First Look, and it seemed to work. I usually just listened. After the first couple of weeks, there was an update, and it became very choppy. Since then, I will occasionally enable it for a few minutes just to see if it ever gets better. Most of the time, I leave voice off. I guess this qualifies as a no vote.

Excellent point on not hearing voice inflection sometimes causing misunderstandings...and voice being able to resolve them quickly!
