Funny thing is, I've been overseas so many times now, I didn't even need to concentrate in order to read this. It made perfect sense to me :D

Also, don't forget that SL is very international. In your travels you are likely to come across many other avs for whom English is not their native language.

You may overcome this potential hurdle by simply TYPING LOUDER to them. This is a well known method which thousands of tourists have used for countless years.

:-)

-Atashi

This technique does not necessarily work if you come across any people from the USA in your travels. The current recommendation to have a chance of being understood is that you should type VERY SLOWLY . . . and intentionally include bad grammar and spelling mistakes.

Pep (Or pretend you are French to encourage them to go away)

EDIT: Actually, the above advice applies to pretty much anyone whose first language is not Good English.

ADDENDUM: Don't make disparaging jokes; although it is believed that every nation does have a sense of humour, this tends to dissipate under pressure from foreigners, leading to excoriation and accusations of insensitivity.

SL Guided Tours
11-07-2008 01:07
Hello,
need some hints and tips for touring:
Have a look at the web tab of my profile or put http://members.a1.net/secondlife/profil/index.htm into your owne profile web tab - there is our index to nice places optimized for use in profiles.

Join the group SL Guided Tours for free to get notecards with landmarks to nice places every 3-4 weeks.

We try to check the sites every 4-6 weeks to stay up to date and fill in new places.

Happy touring around ...

Kewl! I geocache in RL and have been trying to tour around SL. Maybe I'll start doing that as a way to find places rather than random flying. :D

Diceman SL
11-07-2008 06:49
Some times I turn into a tourist. I spend all my time in SL building and sometimes get bored/frustrated or loose sight of the world and the people I am building for. Traveling can provide me with inspiration so once or twice a year I leave my business in the hands of someone else and go off on a Dice Man tour for a week. Most destinations are through recommendation. I'll start off in busy public place like the Space Park for instance and then stop and chat to people asking them for a recommended destination or if no one is interested then I’ll look at profiles. Choose 3 destinations and the let your dice decide which one to go to. Some of the people I stop and talk to are very friendly and ask to travel with me for an hour or afternoon, a roll of the dice will decide whether or not I get a companion. If anyone invites me anywhere or offers me any sort of choice it's down to the dice to decide. If no one is around to give recommendations then I rez a vehicle or fly off in a certain direction determined by the dice until more choices present themselves. It’s good fun and you end up in some really cool places you would never have bothered to visit left to your own devices.

Potential tourists might also be interested in getting the wikiTiPi HUD and loading some of the available telepacks from wikitipi.com.

Or you can grab the SLURLs from most public web pages and load them into your HUD through the website with a single click.

...some of the theme sims could have a tourist village so you can rent for a day or two and visit (a visitor from a foreign land sort of thing) but not sign your life over to RP.

We need a travel agent too I think...someone who packages tours and keeps up on the great builds (to prevent the dreaded link into oblivion due to someone packing it in).

I would also love a meditation retreat of some kind...a two or three day meditation intensive with yoga, etc...a guided experience.

These would all be fun. I'd do them.

I have my home and my community, now I want to be a tourist in SL.

We need a tourist listing in search...great builds that must be seen. And some of the theme sims could have a tourist village so you can rent for a day or two and visit (a visitor from a foreign land sort of thing) but not sign your life over to RP.

We need a travel agent too I think...someone who packages tours and keeps up on the great builds (to prevent the dreaded link into oblivion due to someone packing it in).

And no, I don't want to do these things myself cause I am, like most, a consumer and use SL to relax, refresh and recover from my work in RL.
