I want to be a tourist

I have my home and my community, now I want to be a tourist in SL.

We need a tourist listing in search...great builds that must be seen. And some of the theme sims could have a tourist village so you can rent for a day or two and visit (a visitor from a foreign land sort of thing) but not sign your life over to RP.

We need a travel agent too I think...someone who packages tours and keeps up on the great builds (to prevent the dreaded link into oblivion due to someone packing it in).

I would also love a meditation retreat of some kind...a two or three day meditation intensive with yoga, etc...a guided experience.

And no, I don't want to do these things myself cause I am, like most, a consumer and use SL to relax, refresh and recover from my work in RL.

Problem is, it changes by the minute. That great build you saw yesterday might not even exist today. The best way to be an SL tourist is to randomly go from sim to sim, and explore on your own.

Search is your friend...type in a key word that interests you. I sometimes type in a Random city name..ie New Orleans and see what comees up.

Thanks. I realize that I have been expecting SL to eventually stabilize after digesting the new folk but now I see that this will never happen. I guess the old hands are really aware of this but it takes getting used to for us newer citizens...the constant change.

I think Ronan Dal made a 'cool places' set of screenshots at Snapzilla.com.

So you can kinda search on that and browse, and usually get a peek at what the place is like too before you tp.

Profile is your friend.

Whenever you meet someone new, or just see them standing around in a sim, right-click on their Profile and see if they have Picks. I've found some of the most interesting places that way.

Also, New World Notes blog has a "View From My Window" feature that will keep you exploring for days, if not weeks.

Also, don't forget that SL is very international. In your travels you are likely to come across many other avs for whom English is not their native language.

You may overcome this potential hurdle by simply TYPING LOUDER to them. This is a well known method which thousands of tourists have used for countless years.

:-)

Best travel agency I have found is Secondseeker.com. Seeker Gray has compiled a number of great reviews on places to go and things to see in SL and organized them into catagories which makes it realy easy to find things you might be interested in.

Carry an English to SLanguage Dictionary and constantly look throught it.

Then ignore anything you find and just REPEAT ALL QUESTIONS IN CAPS.

Try to patronize Brand Name establishments you can find in your home town avoiding local merchants

What is it about? What do they mean by caching? (I assume it hasn't anything to do with a computer cache, or has it?)

'Geocaching' has become a popular Real Life 'treasure hunt' game. Or, perhaps a scavenger hunt.
In general, a 'box' of stuff is hidden, and you're given clues to find it. When you find it, you take one thing from the box and substitute something else.
