I have gotten an unsolicited group invite twice now, from a group. After I received the second one today, I sent an IM to the girl sending it and asked her not to send it again.

This, after some back and forth, was what she told me:

From: someone
well dear it is our right to invite from the visitor list on our land so I can only try to remembe you name if it pops up not promising my sugession is to simply hit delete we all have to do that not that major really have a great day dear

So, my response to this was:

From: someone
Well, really dear, you're the only one who has sent me a group invite TWICE. So here is my solution to this problem. I will simply do a little research and find out which one of your tenants I blogged (and therefore gave free advertising to), and make a point to not visit them again...nor your sim. Have a nice day :)

The odd thing is, when I went to the blog to find the post, it turns out that I haven't been to this sim, at all.

So, what would you do? It appears to me that she's simply going through search (or some other mechanism) and inviting people.

Well if you mute her, would you get a group invite request from her?

Since I have more than one account named "Argent" I typically get group invites in bunches. I normally just AR them for spamming if more than one Argent gets it, because it's obvious that they're just going down a list of names.

I don't usually do that for single unsolicited group invites when I'm offline, unless they want me to pay to join or I have some other indication that they're spamming. If they say you were on their land and you haven't been to that sim, then I would say they're proven spammers.

Hm, interesting question. Anyone know the answer to that?

I have a list thingie and i do send ONE COUNT THEM ONE JUST ONE NOT MORE THAN ONE ONLY ONE invite to a person when they pop in. I keep an excel sheet to let me know who I have invited because i wd not want to bother people. I admit that being human one can miss one and in error send the invite twice- happened to me. The woman complained i apologized that was the end of it. I dont think your inviter needed to get cutesy with 'dear' blah blah- seems rude and stupid to alienate possible customers.

Yeah, that "dear" got on my nerves, could you tell?

I may call people dear, but if I ever did it so condescendingly, I hope someone slaps me.

If you do it immediately when I arrive, I'll just click "no". If it happens when I'm offline, so it's in the batch of blue dialog boxes... well, I wouldn't AR you without asking because I know you from the forums, but a complete stranger is a different matter. There's just too many popups if I've been offline a couple days, and if I've gotten IMs capped I may just AR 'em all and let G-Team sort 'em out.

I actually had told her that some people could consider it harrassment and AR her, and that's when I got the quote above.

I'd ignore it and forget it even happened in about three seconds.

it's a scritp thingie- so i wd just send a bunch after sorting thru them to make sure i did not invite the same person twice. (And cute little ferret types are in no dangerof being invited to my gorup since its ladies clothes ;))

I'd probably sigh and click delete - and eventually mute in the hopes that would stop it. I'm not sure I would have an exchange about it. Heck -somedays the world seems so deserted even spam is welcome.

But that's today. Tomorrow I could react differently. I've ranted about stores hitting me with unwanted invites and notegivers before, but this is only because I'd like to get out of the TP area first. Group invites are not in themselve a bad thing for me.

It's fun when people claim they have the "right" to do something. The first question I ask myself is, "From where does that right come?"

The right to send multiple invites to a Second Life Group cannot be found in the Bible (perhaps it's in a religious book with which I'm not familiar), the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, or United States Constitution. So if it's not a religious right, a basic human right, or a legal right, perhaps it's a contractual right.

Well the Second Life Terms of Service indicate that residents are bound by the Community Standards.

"4.1 You agree to abide by certain rules of conduct, including the Community Standards and other rules prohibiting illegal and other practices that Linden Lab deems harmful."

http://secondlife.com/corporate/tos.php

And the Community Standards state that, "Every Resident has a right to live their Second Life. Disrupting scheduled events, repeated transmission of undesired advertising content, the use of repetitive sounds, following or self-spawning items, or other objects that intentionally slow server performance or inhibit another Resident's ability to enjoy Second Life are examples of Disturbing the Peace."

http://secondlife.com/corporate/cs.php

And Disturbing the Peace violates the Community Standards, and therefore, also violates the Terms of Service.

So your inviter is factually incorrect in her assessment of who has what rights.

Oh, and what I'd do is (1) politely ask her to stop (which you did already) and (2) AR the next Group invite I get after politely asking her to stop.

Well, I have put her on factual notice now that I do not wish to join her group. I happen to have had this conversation through IM to email, so I have a record. The next time it happens (which will be the third time), I'm going to be extremely unhappy and will probably do exactly that.

She provided me with an alleged printout from her visitor list showing the location, and the LM to the place, but I don't recognize either one...and I generally have a pretty good memory for those things, so I honestly don't believe I've been there.

I'd first try talking politely (well, you've tried that), then try muting and if that doesn't work, AR.

I hate getting unasked for group invites. If your group is open, put a sign in your store saying you have a group and let me join if I want to.

What would I do if the situation happened to me that happened to the OP

Abuse report for harassment

mute

and move on
