Seriously, you could turn it into a "world class" sandbox where newbies and builders could go hone their skills. Perhaps even charge a very modest fee to cover your tier.

design it with the theme of your book (like an interactive story) and have kiosks in the corners where you offer it for sale--deliver a notecard to peple who land there explaining the theme and the book.

I love gardens ... you could make a small garden, install your "roller coaster" thingee, and sell your book by having "excerpts" of the book scripted, in order to tease and get people interested in it. Then have a link to take them out of world to purchase it and have it delivered. (I'd use amazon.com to sell it - if your a self-publisher, you should know how it works). I think it would make any potential SL buyers more likely to buy - and not feel as if they are giving their stuff out to another resident ... =)

Anyway - the gardens might make people want to visit there "for a date" with their "SL partner" ... and then ride the coaster - and maybe pick up the book excerpts ...

K - just an idear. I know, too, a talented developer who once wanted to build a garden ... He's a 3d artist experienced also in the world of sculpted 3d objects ...

How about a magic trick?
11-12-2007 13:11
You can use it to summon robots. Here's how:

1. While standing on the parcel go to World > About Land.
2. Click Sell land.
3. Price: L$1
4. Sell to: Anyone

Faster than you can say "abra cadabra" your lot will be full of 'bots.

Have your camera ready before-hand, though. This trick only works once!

I think maybe having it as your home, and the Real life store idea is good too

I have done that, set up a store in SL, that showcases some of the items in my RL business, the pics in the store link to my website which of course sell the products (in the midst of updating and revamping the website, so not much on there yet) but ppl can order a catalogue if they want, and do mail order heh (I see it as a 3d website)

so why not just put up a store for your RL stuff, no harm trying, and you can always make changes later if you want

doubt ppl will pay to use a sandbox

I actually put that question into the forums awhile back, would ppl pay to use a sandbox, that was monitored, and void of griefers, and most ppl replied no

Make it a beautiful park - but buy in as little as possible, and instead learn how to build, make textures & sculpties, and how to script.

There is always a market for original items of natural beauty, so perhaps in that way you could also recoup some of your initial outlay.
Yes, until you have any better idea, just fill it with plants at ground level and live in a skyhouse.

If you need some ideas or help, drop my friend Paola Delpaso a note. She loves gardening and has a bunch of free plants (besides the Linden ones) at hand.

Lenny,

I felt the same way when I got my 8192 m2. Just start terraforming and building, and you'll have something you like before you know it.

One fun technique...rez a bunch of 10M cubes and cylinders, and start playing with your big blocks until you hit on an intriguing shape.

Another fun exercise: Raise up all the land as high as it will go and start carving at it with the terraforming tools. Carve out a mountain, dig a stream bed...

Or you can just send me the coordinates. I need a place where I can experiment with building a four unit apartment complex, temporarily. :))

(I'm serious. I'll even pay you a reasonable daily rental for short term use)

Lenny, spend a few hours in the Ivory Tower of Primitives. Maybe you'll get inspired to build something awesome, that requires a lot of land.

Hehehe...

Actually I posted a slurl on the opening post to this thread...

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Cupo/124/38/46/

I'm getting plenty of ideas, that's for sure.

I have temporarily placed a huge cube up on the third level of the structure I've been building and inside the box is a dance floor and a "secret" room up in the top of it.

I'm playing around with a lot of ideas. I'm working with 1,992 Prim capacity so I have lots of room for growth.

Ok, who planted the two little ferns on the ground on my land???

I have my land set not to allow rezzing, building, etc by anyone...

Yet two little ferms appeared out of the blue earlier and both say I'm the creater of them. It's freaking me out man!

Oh... Wait a minute...

Earlier I was on an upper level and experimenting and tried creating a plant twice and nothing appeared to happen. I just remembered that. I guess the default creation is a little fern I can then alter with a different plant "skin." LOL. I was worried for a second someone might have bypassed my land permissions.

I am my own worst enemy it seems...

Lol... happened to me a couple times with linden plants... once I tried enough times to fill up my land before realizing where they had gone XD (Back on my 2048, not my 5k.. that would take forever lol)

I wasn't talking about turning it into a sandbox...

What I had meant is that the OP make an area that is specifically a newbie help area. Put up things that gives instruction on basic helpful things (even include the Newbie Helpkit?).

hey lenny, one of my mates is a rl publisher and set up shop in sl a few months ago.
im not sure what/how he does what he does, but if youre interested in that market maybe its worth having a look at what he's doing.
do a group search for cinnamon press and have a look.
From: Lenny Looming

I see so many shops and stores and to be honest, the only thing that intesests me would be selling real-life merchandise. I've written and self-published a few books and have been wondering if that's feasible to offer here. Maybe set up a clickable poster that when clicked and paid the recipient receives a notecard with a URL where they can download the book in eBook format (PDF). Has anyone seen this setup in use in SL?
