Suppose you logged in to SL, made your way to your usual hang-out, and found avatars that had the names of everyone you know in real life, and avatars to match. Checking their profiles, you find info that convinces you that they are actually being operated by the people in your real life.
Your parents, spouse, co-workers, the store clerks you run into, next door neighbors, siblings, etc. have all joined Second Life, paid the money to use their real names, and have avatars that look like they really do in real life.
Now what?
Do you run screaming?
Do you introduce yourself but conceal your real identity?
Do you tell them all who you are?
Do you contact LL about getting a real name account, or cancel your current account and uninstall SL?
Do you call the local mental health agencies for a check-up?

Hmmm, interesting question. Not sure what I would do but my initial gut reaction was "run screaming".

I'd be out of SL faster than that guy who sold all those Ginko bonds.

Ah... business as usual I suppose?
Would be a bit freaky but honestly, I'm working 99% of the time when I'm logged in, nowadays.

From: SuezanneC Baskerville Now what? A large chunk of my RL social circle is already in SL, so this wouldn't be a huge change. Some I'd "out" myself to, some I wouldn't. No biggie.

You check the event list, and the usual events and format are gone and it's your version of something like this:
Monday - 8:30 am - 5:30 pm - Work Monday - 6:00 pm - 11:00 pm - Surf net, be in virtual worlds Monday - 11:45 pm - Tuesday 7-00 am - Sleep
This is repeated up through Friday.

Since I got my husband to join SL a few weeks after I did (he's a WoW addict so he never comes on SL) and my neighbor friend down the street to join about 2 months afterwards, my sister and her husband about a year after that, I doubt additional RL friends being in SL would bother me.

Ditto. It would be no biggie. Except for my parents. That would really freak me out, them being passed on for so many years and all, but I would be curious about their connection speed; just how bad is the latency from there anyway.
