I've posted previously on items that went missing from my home on two separate occasions. I submitted support tickets each time and just got the "canned" message to do all the recommended steps to retrieve missing items from INVENTORY. Several responses back and forth never seemed to get the point across that these were NOT inventory items, but items rezzed in my home.

At the time I was renting my home and in a rental "group." I have since purchased land and the only people in my group are my alts and Partner. I just logged in to discover that one of my storage trunks is missing (which was there an hour ago!). This was the one that held copies of all my clothes, avatars, skins, jewelry, shoes, etc. Just tried to contact live help and got a message that "all operators are busy, try again later."

SOMETHING needs to be done about items that just disappear.

I've lost a close family member this week and have been having a difficult time RL and now to find the copies (and some originals that I didn't want to keep in inventory) in my storage trunk are just...gone...makes me just want to pack it all in.

Only time I have had items come up vanishing is when the parcel I am renting gets full, there is a bug that I do not think has been address'd that will return items set to group if the parcel gets full.

This isn't the case here as it happened on land I own and there are plenty of prims available. The sim I am in is about 1/2 empty (for sale). I've searched for the item in inventory and it is not there. Neither were the other two items I lost

I've opened the following jira on this situation if anyone would like to vote for it:

I'm getting reports of a lot of ghosted prims these last few days, not sure if that's linked to this but something doesn't seem quite right.

Is there a way to see ghosted prims?

nope

it`s like a solid alpha prim, only there is no prim
prim count keeps that prim as +1 and the collision box is left behind, only there is no prim as it was deleted hence "ghost"

First - Czari, I'm sorry for your loss. Don't let SL get you even more down. RL comes first. Just take care of yourself and be well, and my thoughts are with you.

Have you checked the 0,0,0 coordinates in your sim? I remember there was a problem with things just disappearing and ending up there. That corner turned into a bit of a junkyard in some cases, especially when it was underwater and there was no autoreturn set. That problem may have been addressed, but it's worth taking a look.

Thank you Trout and Osprey for your kind words.

Trout, I haven't checked the 0,0,0 coords this time as the whole thing had me too upset to even stay in world. I did the last two times items went missing but they were not there. It *is* worth it though to look again this time and I will do so when I get in world next.

I've cleared cache and was just doing a search through the forums to find the empty sim someone suggested logging into so I can reload my inventory but I can't find the name. Anyone know that offhand?

Also, what is the cache file called to delete so it can rebuild again? (Just in case the trunk decided to "hop" back in my inventory.)

Thank you in advance for any answers/help on this.

The only thing I can think of - and I sure hope this isn't the case - is if your home is on group land, and the items were placed with your group tag up. If other group members have the power to move or delete group items ...

Again, I hope this isn't the case (or even better, that I'm mistaken on how that works).

Czari, I'm sorry for your RL loss! I suggest to take some time off from SL if the things don't show up again soon. Losing a storage box is especially painful. You already got all of the tips I could think of.

Good luck & take care!

Hugs Czari. I am so sorry about your real life loss and SL woes with missing things
I have been ill and SL is being very difficult and combination sometimes is just too much for me so I can understand.
Please take care of yourself.
My real life partner was talking about similar things with builds he had done vanishing that he had out.
I haven't experienced this recently but he did.
I didn't know what to tell him to do.
I remember this once in sim I was renting a business space in literally half of everything vanished through the sim. it was extremely stressful for sim owners.
Not sure what is happening but SL has had its issues, today I was only able to be on few moments before I started to freeze and crash.

That's what I was wondering about the last two times when I rented land (however that just seemed bizarre someone in that group would bother flying waaaay up to our house and pluck out a couple things...not even expensive things...but one never knows).

In this case it is group land, but I'm basically the group (me, my alts and Partner). I complete faith in my partner...but you know how those sneaky alts can be ;)

*Hugs* back to you my friend.

You have been courageous to share how you live with illness and I agree - every once in awhile one needs to just step back from SL.

You take care of yourself too, ok?

Yes I am doing that right now.
I have trying to make something new and everything is going wrong.
On top of it my whole entire body is just aching.
Log into SL, hope just to look sky, pretty clouds, listen to music and I can't even do that.
So I think instead of feeding the negativity just going to rest and take a break.
Loss be it because of loved one, or loss of control over ability to comfort yourself in SL during very rough period or even the mental loss of control to create due to illness can be extremely difficult.
Either way it hurts deeply but I keep telling myself there will be better days.
I know there will be better days for you too Czari.
Hugs, FD

Oh, I don't trust mine worth a lick. :p But they don't nessasarily have to fly up to your house, they could just cam in. Like I said, I hope it's not the case.

Either way, my condolences on your recent loss. :(

First of all Czari (((((mucho hugs))))) I'm so sorry about your loss.

This probably isn't the time to even be worrying about what's going on in SL>....but I know too, that it can be cathartic.

I have had things seem to disappear on my land as well....only to find when I re-logged in the future, they were back. It was just small items....and I shrugged it off as SL being it's borky self......but they did indeed re-appear later on. I can't recall if it was days later, or just the next log in.......but honeslly I wouldn't sweat it, not right now when you've got so much more on your emotional plate. These things do sometimes just sort of work themselves out. You also might want to have the sim owner request a roll back and see if the trunks show up. That is something that can be done to eliminate a host of nasties on a sim. I own 3 parcels on an island and I know if other owners have problems, the sim owners are great about doing roll backs to help retrieve lost items.

((((((hugs)))))) But seriously luv, don't let the SL glitches get to you....it's so not worth the angst in the grand scheme of things. It's more important that you heal and be among your loved ones.

Heh. Yesterday I was working on a 3 prim linked set and just editing a float text script. Imediately after I closed the edit window, the linked prim just vanished.. I still haven't found it. I have re-logged 2 times, and it is nowhere to be found in my inventory.. Heh I own the region, so it could be anywhere. Or it will never show up..

gotta love it lol

Curious...are the items you lost owned by your alts?

Last night, while shopping for a new home, I read a notecard for one property that mentioned that the sim owners scan the sim daily for items not owned by Group members/renters and will return/remove all random prims in and on their properties.

The sim owner was requesting that, once you rent, to please give them the names of all your alts, so they don't remove your stuff.

I know that you can't usually rez stuff if you are not a Group member; but maybe your alt was mistakenly ejected/removed from the Group???

Just a thought...

Thank you for your warm thoughts, Milla.

Only trouble with a sim rollback is that I own land on a mainland so no one owns the sim in its entirety (and quite a bit of it is up for sale). I did submit a support ticket requesting a sim rollback since this is the third item I have had go missing on this sim - but unlike the other two, nothing I can easily replace. Yeah, not holding my breath on that support ticket.

Thanks, Ghosty. If an item is group owned on group land and me and my alts are basically the only ones in the group (plus my Partner) no one else *could* take something, could they?

Sheesh....there just has to be a SL "graveyard of lost items" somewhere.
