Years in SL matters in so much as that it is a lot of time with friends to throw away simply because i am dissatisfied with LL.
I do not care how nazi they get, I have a life here and I will not so easily choose to not log in because LL has crossed an invisible line. Yes, not logging in is far easier to do when you are less rooted in the society by friends, relationships, business, or whatever else that forms over your time in SL from days to years - and generally speaking, it takes years to form those type of bonds not days.
If the world works, and my log in works and the people I hold dearest to me are there (NinaNinaNina!) then I will be there. Until then, they can choose to ban people for whatever reason and I will do my best to avoid those reasons.

Well, First of all, Jesse, I'd like to see the chat transcript where you are made CEO. It would be great for lulz. Oryx was pretty clear that she hasn't posted anything, and I take that to mean she has no intention of posting anything anywhere. There was a long discussion of this on a third party site, SLU, and it's an interesting subject. How far does LL's reach extend?
I'd say infinitely far. They can ban you for whatever they want. It's their circus. If they decide they don't like something you said on a third party site, you can be gone tomorrow. That's my take, at least.
That said, it's pretty common to see chatlogs posted on SLU. It usually isn't to prove anything or win an argument; it's usually because something hilarious, silly, interesting, or otherwise worth reading (at least in the poster's opinion) was said in the chat. I have mixed feelings on this. I believe that what is said in a private message should not be published in a public forum unless the parties to the conversation all agree, but some of the stuff you see over there is pretty harmless and kind of funny. I just don't want to be the one that has to draw the line and say where something goes from wacky hijinx to harmful or slanderous.
I guess my own policy is not to post things publicly that I know the other party intended to be private unless they agree to my posting it. I think I've done that a few times, but it wasn't to settle an argument, where I agree, it doesn't show much of anything, it was because somebody said something that had me in stitches and I wanted to share and make sure they got credit. Totally different reason, and within the TOS to post since I had permission.

From: Trout Recreant Well, First of all, Jesse, I'd like to see the chat transcript where you are made CEO. It would be great for lulz. My first action as CEO is to name Trout Recreant as VP of Public Relations.

lol - God help Linden Lab. Sounds like a fun gig! I accept.
If I weren't running around like a chicken with my head cut off in RL right now, I'd do a letter from the Lindens like brenda suggested.
Actually, those prove Jesse's point, don't they? Of course, nobody believes Lindens actually write those; it's just me being goofy, but anyone can write anything and stick a name on it. I could have a fake IM session with Philip Linden in about 10 seconds. it's just a matter of fabricating one. I don't think I could actually get him to talk to me so I could doctor a real one. I'm not exactly a SL VIP, if you catch my drift.

From: 3Ring Binder i am much more worried about someone making up a bunch of B.S. about me that never really happened, than i am about my own behavior and its consequences. that's why i won't do a 3rd party with my SL name ever again. It's a good idea to register at 3rd party forums even if you never intend to post. That way someone else can't impersonate you elsewhere.

From: Trout Recreant lol - God help Linden Lab. Sounds like a fun gig! I accept. Should have played hard to get. In addition to the $250K annual, living expenses and new car...... I was also prepared to offer you your choice of any 3 females from the forums as your personal assistants.

My first act as Minister of Public Information will be to change the motto for my division: Linden Lab Public Relations: Putting the "ass" in assistant since Trout was hired.

From: Oryx Tempel LOL - I've gotten a bunch of PM's asking what I've said elsewhere. I've said nothing at all, I was just curious, since there's a big discussion on SL Forum moderation over in SLU. So does this mean that OryxhatesPhillip.com isn't your site?

From: Alicia Sautereau to be honest, that is pretty much walking on the paranoid line if some one makes up a false log, you know what you have said and others should trust you on your word or pissoff i don't care what anyone thinks. i was talking about a false AR to LL, and getting banned for some B.S. stunt.
