I have a few reasons for this question. There seems to be a broken search window with the New Search in the 1.19.1 main viewer (previously also in the release candidate), where scrolling and page links do not function, when in full-screen mode. In windowed mode it works. I had to scour the Jira and finally found only 2 people who had discovered this problem. This would lead one to believe it is not affecting all clients, or that very few people run in full-screen mode, and so my curiosity.

there are other problems with full screen mode or even large framed windows on large monitors, the screen-shot image has memory problems and causes the viewer to freeze on log out

I know that in the KB, they recommend Mac users to use the windowed mode for those who don't have the best machines (like me). I use the RC 4, I'll check later to see if I get the same problems as you describe in full-screen.

This poll might be illegal because most forum regulars are more likely to use windowed mode in order to scan the forums every 0.5 seconds.

I got so spoiled on windowed mode in SL (so I can surf, check mail, and Photoshop while in-world) that last night I had to look up how to do it in World of Warcraft (signed up for the 3rd time). I also started playing Guild Wars windowed a couple weeks ago.
Performance isn't as good when it's in a window, but I just can't imagine SL in full-screen anymore. _____________________

People who have very low-end graphics hardware sometimes find that running full-screen is easier on their CPU than running in a window. Thus, I hope LL shapes up full-screen support if it is broken. OP, can you post the bug number?

Yep, most content creators will use windowed mode. But I'd never dream of using Windowed mode while playing a game. When I'm in a game I'm in a game. Not even my table and keyboard exists while playing a game. I'm right in there and my emails and forums aren't a part of jungle warfare. I don't want to be hearing *bing bong* from my email client while sneaking up on the enemy. Hell, the enemy might hear it too!. Sod that. |

Same here when it comes to WoW (yep I'm one of 10 million and counting addicts) but in SL I've never gone full screen and never will partially because of convenience so I can use photoshop, check my email, etc... without tabbing out and partially because full screen programs crashing has a tendency to cause problems with my video card and while that isn't a problem with WoW which crashes infrequently it's a huge problem with SL that crashes very often. _____________________

People who have very low-end graphics hardware sometimes find that running full-screen is easier on their CPU than running in a window. And sometimes they'll find just the opposite. It varies from machine to machine. My old 5-year-old Dell, which is till running like a champ, but really doesn't like SL at all these days, has always gotten about 1/3 the FPS in full screen mode that it gets in windowed mode, even when the window is maximized. On other machines of the same age, and approximate power, I've seen exactly the opposite behavior. I've never known why. On my newer machine, I've never tried using full screen mode. I was already so used to using Windowed mode by the time I got this computer, that it never even occurred to me to switch. Windowed mode is more convenient anyway. I run large dual monitors, and I almost always have Photoshop, Maya, and a browser running along side SL, at the very least. I move things around within and across both screens all the time. I never run anything full-screen. I don't ever even maximize any windows. _____________________

It was already reported before, fixed, now broken again... you have to admire LL's "one step forward, two steps back" development process. |

I just tried it, and all seemed well for me. Did you press the 'send feedback' button on the first page (Beta)? Or is that not showing up as well for you? _____________________

I just tried it, and all seemed well for me. Did you press the 'send feedback' button on the first page (Beta)? Or is that not showing up as well for you? Well that link is on the bottom half of the page, so it does not show up, or didn't. I found a peculiar way of getting there though. After hitting the scroll bar, it does nothing. But after a combination of hitting the back and forward buttons, it will eventually go to the bottom part of the window. So it seems it is scrolling, just not updating the screen with the result. Bizarre.... |

I have heard rumors about SL-in-a-browser but not seen any evidence that a 3D graphics capable browser client actuallly exists.
Pelican Crossing says it's working on a universal client. The project is called inDuality. See http://www.pelicancrossing.com/inDualityInfo.htm for info. _____________________

I used to be a big full screen fan but found so many disadvantages to that I changed to windowed - it felt odd and everything look weird at first but soon-ish I began to prefer it over full screen

Windowed mode, virtually always.
Normally I run Sl on about 1/2 to 1/4 of my 24" cinema display, and normally I have anywhere from 1 to 4 copies of the SL client running at once. As a Builder, it is very handy to be working up-close and personal on the build, and to be able to glance at the build from one or more distant vantage points at the same time. So I will often post an alt outside the building, in one or more locations... In a complex building project I might have SL open in one window, a web browser in another, and Photoshop or a 3D app in a third... One big reason I virtually never go full-screen... If SL crashes when in full-screen mode, the only recourse is a full system reboot. Whereas if it crashes in windowed mode, I may be able to force-quit that window, and retain my OS and other apps. _____________________
Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

I use the windowed mode. The only space I leave open is the taskbar.
