it's your sim, do what you like, you don't have to tell him/her anything.

There are virtually no anti discrimination laws in SL. Even if there were, just like RL, you could always make up an excuse not to rent to anyone. As a land owner you can rent to anyone you wish or decline anyone you wish. Plain and simple.

as a general rule, be kind to people. muting them is a bit extreme. but no is no, and if you aren't inclined to tell them why because it would be offensive, tell them you alraedy promised it to someone else... or something like that.
it's your land. you can do wut you want with it. |

Let me get this straight - the way he talks makes you think he's got less brain power than you and that's why you don't want him around?
Your choice entirely, of course, but that would actually make me not want to rent from you... _____________________

It's a tough situation, but it's a hell of a lot less messy to get rid of him now than after he moves in .

It's your own sim and you do what you want... But if they haven't been rude with you, dunno... Each person is a potential customer. They might be rude with neighbours, but if you don't try to, you will never know. And well, at least you have it rented for a week.
Anyway, it's up to you, but don't think that's nice. _____________________

Your choice entirely, of course, but that would actually make me not want to rent from you... I don't discriminate based on brain power, but people with less brain power take up more time and energy. It comes with the territory and requires a lot of patience to teach. Eventually, these people become low maintenance. If you are not into high maintenance rentals at all, then only rent to people you feel are the sharper tacks in the box. _____________________

I want to lease property to clients in SL. I have been approached by several people wanting to know if I would rent them property. I would like to see if this would be good for me but I have a couple of questions. First: At least one of the people interested is less than I would expect to make a good neighbor. I base this on his manner of speaking. Is it against the rules of SL to discriminate against someone I feel is inferior? Second: Am I required to tell this person why I dont want to rent to him or can I just mute him? "Inferior" - what on earth does that mean? But hey it's your land your land. Do what the hell you like with it. _____________________

I used to rent out zoned communities in estate sims, and I found that first impressions are not reliable: There were times I initially felt a little uneasy about a resident and they turned out to be the 'perfect' tenant, and there were cases where outwardly respectable and polite residents became a handful. I'm all for giving anyone a go, and if you have concerns, just keep an eye out until they are shown to be warranted, or as I found more commonly to be the case: not. At the end of the day, it's your sim; do what ever you feel comfortable with.

This is an insert from my sister LOL
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Inferior: Lesser, low-grade, mediocre, sub-standard, lower, poorer, second rate. You could actually tell this by talking to someone? Just curious was it voice or was it chat typing? I wish I could tell how well off a person is by their language. A person that comes to mind is Larry Flint. Im sure to you he must be inferior but I would guess he lives in an upscale neighborhood. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OK I get the point I was wrong to say it that way. I just felt he was a little slow not inferior. |

I just felt he was a little slow not inferior. Weird doings with this post. For some reason it isn't showing up correctly. I hated the use of the word "inferior" so I'm glad you changed it. I was hoping that maybe English wasn't your first language or you had some good reason for misusing that word. Anyway, I don't particularly care for the idea of refusing to rent to someone you don't think is as bright as you are, either. I've found that people who tend to think they are smarter than others are almost always wrong. The more they promote their own intelligence, the less intelligent they tend to be. On the other hand, the people who I have met in life who are absolute geniuses - scary smart people - are generally very low key and modest about their intelligence. (Then there are those of us who are smart enough to realize how painfully stupid we actually are) It's your land, though, and it's not like US Federal and state laws against discrimination in housing apply. Presumably you could refuse to rent to someone based on the color of their RL or SL skin, their religion, familial background, or disability. How incredibly offensive would that be? I'm not saying you would do this, I'm just illustrating the point that if you think someone isn't your intellectual equal, then as offensive as it is, you don't have to rent to him or her. _____________________

You are right about the post it is phoney. I just wanted to see the reaction of people if I wanted to discriminate in SL. But what is serious here and this I would seriously like to find out without actually doing it myself is what would be the reaction if someone created a new avatar and named it mohammad. The avatar is a cartoon character and the person behind it is real. ???

Inc Sounds like my kind of place. So, Emjuan - we caught you making up a post to create controversy? You're not off to a great start here. Who's alt are you? _____________________

Sounds like my kind of place. So, Emjuan - we caught you making up a post to create controversy? You're not off to a great start here. Who's alt are you? Thats not it at all. I did intentionally start the thread with a misleading intro. It was not my intention to continue to deceive people but to see if it did matter that I had called someone inferior compared to someone being called an infadel for the part of mohammad. I wanted to see and still do the way people feel about the black hood of the east and the white hood of the south. I think it is as fair as Tana Smirnov's thread about information gathering. Oh and I am no ones alt. I have watched this forum for awhile now but have to date never gotten involved. I have been around since april or may. |

Discriminate if you want, the right of free association is precious and must be protected. Name your AV what ever you want. If someone doesn't like it, mute them and ban them from your land if you feel the need. _____________________

Ironically I suspected the question to be less than genuine, but gave it the benefit of the doubt!

a lot of folks are named Mohammed in RL, a lot of folks are named Jesus, so what? There are 4 pages of avatars in search whose first name is Mohammed. Odd that if you name a child Mohammed it is considered to be honoring the god, but if you name a teddy bear Mohammed it's considered blasphemy and people try to have you jailed, stoned, or otherwise harmed. _____________________

I wanted to see and still do the way people feel about the black hood of the east and the white hood of the south. You do know that the most recent manifestations of the Klan have been just as if not more active in the North as in the South. During the 1920's they basically ran the state of Indiana. _____________________

You must not read the news very often. The cartoonist that had a faqua (unk spelling) put against for drawing a picture of mohammad. The school teacher that is now in jail for naming a teddy bear mohammad. Mohammad must never be draw or symbolized by anyone of any faith without dire consequences.

I think I am going to go make an ALT named Mohommad with a long beard and turban. Then take him to the most disgusting sex areas to be abused. If someone doesn't like it, they can IM me for my RL info and come do something about it in person. _____________________
