I don't understand why people would do this. It just makes it much harder for people to leave your land quickly. Maybe they want people to stay?

Some people think it will make it harder for you to peek into their skybox that way.

Some RP sims don't want people flying.

LOL a even a Superhero RP sim i went to was no fly ....

A few places have really nice builds that are designed to be seen from the ground, too.

I haven't even noticed the "no fly zones" ever since I got my multi-tool HUD.

Fly was often off at Camp HardKnock during obstacle courses and other events, if only to level the playing field.

I simply hate no fly stores and malls. (especially those HUGE stores)
no fly really sucks in those cases, meaning I either miss a lot, due to low draw, or I have to turn up draw and then lag to hell as it loads.
as soon as I enter and see no fly I port home then continue my search for whatever it is I am looking for.

As for rp sims do not visit those

other places, well it would depend on the place I guess

for the most part, if I am somewhere that is no fly, I leave.

Some people think flying kinda ruins the fun. You would be surprised how much you miss flying. I try walking as much as possible, enjoying the view.

When I encounter this with stores, I think it is to make you have to slow down and look at the things you pass. Though now that someone mentioned it, I suppose it is to increase traffic time, too.

In any case, the only effect it has on me is to make me go someplace else.

Superman turned off fly so he could sleep with Louis. Turned out later he was gay. Kind of tough on Louis who gave birth to his super baby.

Turning off fly in retail environments is just plain stupid. Besides, most of us "camera shop" anyway ;)

However, there are plenty of reasons that other environments might turn it off. Numbakulla is a great example - if fly was enabled there would be no "game" to solve the puzzles and make your way to the hidden areas of the sim. (And for all you people who haven't been and are looking for something cool to do: GO.)

I would love to turn off fly on my sim but there are areas that can only be reached by flying. Otherwise, the sim was designed to be seen from the ground and from the air it just looks like a bunch of trees.

if you are flying before teleporting to a no-fly sim then you can still fly in there until you touch down

Whilst I agree with the irritation at 'no-fly zones' comments here, it has to be noted just how many people do not know how to 'camera-shop'...

Countless times while shopping, I find my view blocked of an item high up, due to the fact someone has flown up and is right in front of it!

It does look like I'm doing nothing while I stand in one spot and cam my way round a mall, which for most I find a draw distance of 128 sufficient.

Uh, you mean Lois, right?

Somehow I suspect it would have been a bit difficult for Louis Lane to have given birth to a baby, super or otherwise.

This is Louis Lane, conductor of The Cleveland Orchestra:

This is Lois Lane, Supeman's girlfriend:

Yeah, I know what you're gonna say. They look so similar, how could anyone keep them straight? Well, I'll tell you how. She's the one who sometimes puts a bow in her hair, and he's the one who puts a bow around his neck. Slight difference, sure, but significant.

Psst... Louis is a boy's name :)

I camera shop too, however I keep a low draw distance, and in those huge half sim stores, one doesn't want to have to walk to be able to cam at more stuff hehe

In those huge half sim stores, I get bored before I see it all!

When I say a draw distance of 128 is sufficient, that is the furthest I'll put it on while friend I know has it on much further than that.

I just find that when people fly up and 'park' right in front of a high up display, they are not considering others who are looking.

I turn off fly in my indoor club. With fly enabled, new people (who, in general, can't fly well at all) tend to zip around the place, pushing other people around. On outdoor areas, I have it enabled.

No-fly makes it marginally more difficult to get up to a skybox if you don't have a landmark and aren't authorized to use a teleporter. It's nothing like security, but it deters some newbies who don't know how to fly in a no-fly zone, and provides a kind of pretense of privacy, which is pretty much all one can have anyway.

Oh, if you turn on Client->View Admin Options you can fly whenever you want. And it's really silly that a few places to to great lengths with landing points and tunnel-like entrances to hide their sky zombies when that's all it takes.

It may not be for that reason, maybe they have their home above their store and yes whilst a lot of people could still cam up and peek..lol..maybe they want to reduce the amount of visitors popping in for a coffee ;)

I think it's CTRL-ALT-V to enable fly in no fly zones ;)

Seriously, there are people bothering with elaborate traps to get fly-in teleports on the ground just for that? Gah, putting the box above the clouds is a perfectly good noob filter, and scripts do the job if keeping people at arm's length is serious business. Gimmicks like no fly and enclosed builds just scream "we are hiding something!" and trigger bratty streaks and a desire to see what's being hidden. that's going to go doubly for anyone who's been conditioned to see something like SL and think "game".

Guess you missed the part about Superman being gay.

I saw that, but I apparently didn't get the joke. I still don't. I mean why would it "turn out later he was gay", if he deliberately slept with Louis instead of Lois? Wouldn't he already have needed to be gay in order to have wanted to do that? Or was he just in some sort of Kryptonian experimental phase? Doesn't seem to make sense.

Oh well.

Actually, I think Superman may well have been the only Super Friend who wasn't gay. Consider the facts:

Exhibit 1. Batman and Robin - This one's pretty much a given. 'Nuff said.

Exhibit 2. Aquaman - His teenage male sidekick was named Tadpole. Is that not uncomfortably suggestive enough?

Exhibit 3. I have no proof, of course, but I'm pretty sure Apache Chief, Black Vulcan, and Samurai had their own little multiracial love fest going on between the three of them. What else could they do, after all? It's not like side characters get a whole lot of chicks.

Exhibit 4. Firestorm - A kid name Ronald joins bodily with his male teacher to create a "fire storm". Yeeaaahhhh.

Exhibit 5. The Martian Manhunter. MANhunter? Right.

Exhibit 6. Green Lantern - Beside the fact the he clearly wore green every Thursday, which in my elementary school was the official way to tell, hello, jewelry fetish.

Exhibit 7. Cyborg - With all those handy attachments, you'd think the ladies would be all over him. Yet you never saw him with one. What's up with that?

Exhibit 8. The Flash - His best friend was Green Lantern. Just how close were they?

Exhibit 9. The Wonder Twins - Okay, maybe not gay, but there was clearly some Donnie & Marie style incest going on there.

That just leaves Superman.
