Racist comments are against TOS no matter what the person might have said or done beforehand...right?

Someone asked if griefers were ever 'mean or vicious'. I've seen that, yes.

Also, stopping someone from moving or basically playing SL is against TOS for a reason - it's hellannoying but beyond that - yes, I've seen mean, too.

Usually they are trying to be funny, in which case if it doesn't go on and on I might even laugh too.

But the name calling stuff, no excuse, and not funny. Same w/bumping, gahhh I hate that. Can't even type when you have to keep re-orienting your av and all. I mean seriously - bumpers should get a new hobby. How fun can that be anyway? Really?

I would like to put out there that an NCI land officer would gladly like to hear about anyone making racist comments on NCI land. As an organization, NCI does not accept intolerance over race, orientation, or appearance in general... and will correct, warn, eject, and/or ban anyone who makes newcomers unwelcome depending on the severity of their actions. (^_^)

After reading this thread I am soooo glad that when I first arrived in SL I was immediately tp'd by a friend to their (and my first) home sim, thus not having gone through the Welcome Areas that sound anything but one.

When I created my alt, I wanted to experience the whole Orientation Island/Help Island/Welcome area thing. I got sent to some place that looked like an Alpine lodge with people speaking German...I think. I wouldn't have known insults if they were being spoken...lol.

I always wonder how so many people manage to be in the welcome areas at bad times. When I visit, there'll sometimes be an idiot or two on voice but that's about all. Worst I've ever seen was a brief appearance of some SL Police who decided to show off their "authority" and everyone was either laughing, taunting them or changing their own titles. I made myself the Chief of Police lol.

I actually find welcome areas rather dull most of the time.

I like welcome areas. (specifically ahern) They're a good source of gossip, news, and fashion trends. :3 There are mean people there, but it comes with the territory. Just don't say anything and observe if you are drama prone. ^^ And be mature about the immaturity around you. Some people are so attention starved that running around naked is all they can do, and even that isn't enough most times. :3

I dont get it? Every time I've been to Welcome Areas, I've never seen X-Rated objects, caging, or anything of the sort. Even after an hour of just sitting there.

Mostly people standing around chatting & trying to pick up women.

You have an ugly avie? No, you can't expect the SL slimeballs to be everywhere at once. Even with a master to a bunch of bots. Oh wait, I just got an idea.....

the welcome area was in both IMs and open Chat, yes it was a true SL MENTOR tag, the saddest part was it was within a min of rezzing in, chat and IM log was sent from both my self(the chat) and my fresh alt(log and Chat) I don't typicaly AR did it before with another alt at the FUNPark??? the amusment park when a guy was griefing/shooting/caging all the newbies that had tped there from Orientation Isle... I normally feeel live and let live is best

the NCI incident, I really couldn't even say where it was because it seemed more of a freebie mall, I wound up TPing the alt to my sim to open boxes and such
if I had thought about it I would have sent a note but I'll have to check that it was an NCI area (like I said it was a LM from a spamed notecard.

as others have said I have been many times to MANY of the welcome areas and most time its pick ups etc or help me or silly stuff.. but there are other times that its really horrible

With the economy what it is, perhaps LL could easily find (ETA: and pay min. wage, even) people out of work who would be GLAD to stay at the official welcome areas, and make sure this sort of garbage is kept under control. And instead to, you know, officially welcome people.
