Is LL auctioning so many sims in a desperate attempt to cash before the collapse?

I'm just wondering if this is thier last push to suck in cash before it all comes crashing down around them?

The link below might give some insight ... it is a report from forbes.

This is what happens when trust is lost. They think they can just ignore the fall out of the banks and such... Sit back and not do anything expecting it to all go away on its own. The trust is gone, the Lindens have once again failed the people. Now its going to bite them on the rear. It's only a matter of time. The question is not if SL will fail but more of when.

Seems there is a Linden Labs cheer leader whom adds nothing to any of these posts of any value at all.

If people could have LL open their eyes and begin treating people right there *might* be a chance for it's survival. It so irks me to have to read the unfounded agression and cheap shots I just wanted to know what a person like this is all about.

Well thank you for the L3 for camping in your garden. I have never camped a second in my life but I just could not turn down the opportunity to have some of your L since you are such a part of my life lately and to see what you do.

I do want to say it was the most BORING 15 minutes I have ever and probubally ever will spend in SL. Nothing but flat .tga textures plastered all over flat prims. The most un-imaginative and talentless plants I have ever seen.

funny thing is I love Second Life, it's Linden Labs that is spoiling it. You don't get that. But go on and slam me, one of the people who is vocal in what it will take for the survival of Second Life. Even if that survival means there is land to put your boring plants on. All you do by standing up for Linden Labs and thier actions is help to seal the end of Second Life itself.

Linden Labs needs the message loud and clear that the people are the most important thing here. Until they start treating us like that is so they will have no chance of keeping Second Life alive.

Thank you for you 3L on your boring camping device ... for which I never put one of those things out ever.

Now I know a little more about you.

Glad to see I am not the only one who notices that.

I have a business in SL myself and make some money from it however I am not going to pretend SL is not in trouble. I was born at night but not last night. It was good while it lasted.

The report was poor journalism at best

If LL really is on the way out, why has he been saying it for over a year now? If every year I predict that this will be the worst hurricane season ever, I could actually be right one of these days, and no one will remember all the times I was wrong.

All I know is I wouldn't just ignore this.

I mean, when Joe Anonymous, Random Internet Guy, posts something about Second Life being on its last leg, sure, I can pretty much take that post with a grain of salt. You see that kind of thing all the time, and nobody really knows what Joe Anonymous's credentials, if any, are.

But when Forbes, a nationally recognized business magazine, comes out and says, "We think SL's a sinking ship" ... gee, I dunno. I think I *might* at least take notice.

Just sayin'.

The problem is though some of these people can not see past RL politics and they use that with the whole SL subject. Libs say "Oh it came from Fox, must be crap" Repubs say "Oh it came from CNN, its crap".

Problem is..

THEY ARE ALL SAYING IT! lol

Wake up.

Since when has the mainstream media ever really understood technology that is not at least 10 years old?

Not true. Ever since prices came down, more and more end users are buying full sims. I just bought my first, and all four of my sim neighbors are end users.

No, there will be a big boom in when it starts getting cold in the northern hemisphere.

The problem is people who care about Second Life care so much and they want so much for it to not be in trouble that they just choose to believe it isn't in trouble because that spares them the pain.

So they will argue that everything is ok because they don't know what else to do.

You know I been hearing this big boom thing all summer long. People saying that its summer wait till winter and things will be back to normal which I think has been correct in the past however I have noticed one thing...

People keep saying this yet if you look at www.secondlife.com the number of people online has not gone down from winter anyway. So if that number has not changed how is it that all these summer people are gone? (Scratches head)

Serious reply:

My guess is that the Company is making sure it's not caught with its pants down, landwise, for the fall/winter rush.

Best way to do that is get the land out there a few months early, or we'll see a demonstrably softer, but clear repeat of last year: land prices screaming upward, an inability to meet land demand, and the bar set financially crazy-high for incoming new users.

Personally, I don't think we'll ever see the hype of last year ever again. Second Life is a largely known quantity now, both good and ill. Happens to all kinds of technologies:

Radio: The 'golden age' is over, but KFI is still there and playing to more people than ever.

Television: Broadcast TV's golden age is over, but KABC and the BBC is still there.

Internet, metaverse... same deal.

* * * * *

A word about competition.

I notice there's a phenomenon I quietly call 'new sim smell' - a sim that *does not even exist yet* is ALWAYS more valuable in the minds of just about everyone, than an older one. It's not just me. Even Anshe's pricing from way back reflects this - new sims are 'worth' about double in the minds of residents.

From a long term standpoint, the reverse *should* be true: older sims have established neighbours, and you can see what's put up, and to large degree they are *less* of a crapshoot than sims you haven't seen yet.

So why is this? Couple reasons. People see 'brand new' and naturally, in the landscape of the mind, there aren't any problems. Why, of *course* everything will be just fine. Second, it *is* fun to build a new area with a lot of new neighbours - this lasts a few weeks at best.

Now to my point.

What does real competition do? Ford and Chevy, Coke and Pepsi, in every niche there's usually a 'big two' (not always). Is there ever a huge difference between the big players? Not really.

Here's why.

Let's say you are the #2 newcomer in whatever industry, how much are you going to charge? Answer: generally less than #1, but not a lot less. Maybe 80-90% - simply because you can get that price. Charging too low will make people think you are 'cheap' - and this is more true with virtual items than just about anything else. Perceptions rule. Nothing's needed in a virtual world.

Let's say you are in the same situation, but with customer service. Are you going to go to heroic expensive efforts, or just be a little bit better to be 'best'? Yeah. We've all flown airlines, you can all figure this one out.

How about reliability? Same deal. Intel boxes didn't suddenly become 'better' because of Apple. Don't even get me started with Microsoft.

Cars, fast food, airlines, soft drinks, video games... there's an evolution. If you sell the only car in the world, it's going to sell, no matter how bad. If you get a competitor, guess what, you'll both be pretty bad until sloooooowly market competition will push you to excellence over decades.

Considering all this, perhaps think of Second Life as Coke just after the cocaine was taken out of the recipe but before Pepsi came along - that may be the right analogy.

Just one man's opinion.

But how many like you are doing the same? If a large enough population are then we would see the difference but its not occuring that way.
And if they are doing it how long after they find out the CS just ****** ****..And then sells?

But I am happy for you done it......
