I requested a road nearly 2 years ago in Pyrina for my roadside lot. The Linden gal said she was behind but she would get to it as soon as she could. It is still not built.

What you think about getting a group of us together and finish these roads for the Lindens? Not sure how the Lindens can make this work but I think its for the betterment of our community.

Good luck. The Tao of Linden states that employees can pick whatever they wish to do. Who wants to spend time on the repetitive, mundane task of roading up 3+ continents?

Moral of the story: delegate tasks, or stuff will not get done.

Annoy them until they get to it.

Also send in Feedback for a Road/Highway Coalition.

I want one of those LL jobs.... :p

Of course you do realise that if the 'roads' programme was finally finished..you'd still be forbidden from driving anything bigger than a bicycle along it..sort of like the vast miles of waterways you can't sail on.

My home borders a future highway. I used to look forward to it being made into a road but now I rather like it as a rough track and would be happy for it to stay that way so I can go hiking!

I too like the fact that some linden paths are not paved... nicer for walking, hiking, horseback riding. They also make good paths to follow when ballooning.

Also, in some developed sims, I think a paved road would detract from the look and feel in the area.

I bought roadside land, hoping customers would come down the road and visit my business. I have yet to see the first customer that comes walking along this rough terrain.

I don't see why the Lindens take so long to build it. If it is really that much work, please just flatten it. The way it is now, it is easier to walk the private parcels bordering the road than the road itself.

I think the Lindens need a roadbot.

never mind build new roads - what about maintaining the ones already built?

I think it is time Governor Linden repaired the roads in Alcis - they are literally coming apart at the prims! Some of the gaps are quite large enough for one of those small avatars to fall down and get trapped beneath the road surface.

If you're on friendly terms with most of the roadside neighbours in the sim, you don't really need to wait for LL.

Build a road section, link it to an invisible prim as the main prim and then move it to the edge of your parcel. Then edit linked parts on the road section so it fits.

If everyone's willing to give up a handful of prims to maintain the road it should work out :).

well many of us have asked and offered (i have done both) but its not happening. SO I guess LL will do it when they feel like it which may be never cause well its just roads I suppose.

You might try filing a support ticket requesting the road (or an ETA for the arrival of the road) but you'll most likely be told that the missing road is caused by a problem with your hardware or cable/DSL company.

I hope LL does not get upset with my automatic vehicle system when I let free my army of roving buses loose on the Linden roads.

I find a nice slow moving buss is the best way to chat with friends as you enjoy the scenery.

I've had a request for a road on the 'fabled list' for three years now. When I requested the road back in the summer of 2004 I was told it was on the list but the Linden wouldn't commit to a production date. I Spoke to Guy Linden the day before live help died and Guy Linden told me it was still on the list. I asked him if the the list was being actioned on a regular basis and he told me there is one person working the road/rail/bridge building program as far as he knew and even then they are not doing so on a regular basis. This job is of low priority and resources are being applied to more important tasks. However I was told not to give up hope!.

Couldn't argue with this really. i would rather the Lindens spent their time working on important issues rather than building roads.

Coincidentally, just today I examined the structure of a road. These things use a lot of prims! If they were replaced by sculpted prims using SCULPT_TYPE_PLANE (to make the collision surface more reasonable, at least), it might save a lot of prims, and hence some tiny amount of lag. Maybe patience would be rewarded, on the off-chance some Linden is inspired to build a sculpted-road-bot.

Although those are a couple great ideas, I feel that changing the system at this point will just delay progress even further. You're right, your two ideas there would make the roads use fewer prims (although i'm not sure that it makes a difference performance-wise), and may make road production more efficient. However, there is zero road production happening now, and from the looks of this thread there are several people forming an ad hoc group of Volunteers. Whichever Linden they have on part-time assignment to do roads (who is now "fixing bugs" according to our own overwhelming petition), please assign him to run a Road Volunteers group. It should take about 1 hour to train a few of us, and set us up with a box of road parts. After that we can train each other and all new recruits. Then, all that is left is someone who decides what kind of road goes in each area. Leave that to a single person with a Google Spreadsheet, possibly managed by the Linden leader himself. For the sake of keeping things in motion there should be no arguments about what road goes where, or which region is first in the queue, please.

I think I'd rather they spent their time working on building roads, and leaving the important stuff alone. Maybe that way, they won't break things as often.

What's all the hype about roadside for anyway?
08-08-2007 14:59
If it's taking up to 3 years for LL to get round to making a simple road through through a region, why on earth are road side parcels priced well over the odds. Even with 8 million residents (claimed) SL is still a pretty lonely place and I wouldn't plan my SL fortune on attracting passing trade walking down the road to nowhere. It seems to me that the only people who benefit from road side are the purveyors of SLs most ugly aspect, the disgusting spinning banner, some examples of which should qualify for their own special ARs for almost abusive tastelessness.

The only advantage of a road side as far as I can see is that little guys owning a road side property wont find their modest little estate completely boxed in by the walls of a mega conglomerate dance club spitting infinite tasteless particles into to the sky 24/7.

Come to think of it I'd say that the the further away you are from a main road the better, you'll be financially better off, wont have to put up with plug ugly banners and will probably have nicer neighbors. Just a thought

Road side plots used to be highly valued before they introduced point to point teleporting. Back when each sim had a single Telehub, allot of people would follow the roads on their way to a destination and people spent allot more time travelling generally as they didn'tt have the ability to travel to a specific destination. Personally I never really noticed a drop in road side prices after P2P Tp's came in which is odd I think the plots should of been devalued. Nowadays i think roadside is generally only appealing for asthetic value, business looks nice next to a road, plus the linden protected land boundry is always nice. Not worth the prices some poeple charge though.

I went for road side because I didn't want to be boxed in. Buying land when the sim is very young and undeveloped is always a bit of a gamble anyways and being protected on one side isn't a bad idea. I wound up with a skybox neighbor+ ads on one side, ads on another side and a long strip of vacant lot behind me (still not sure what the owner is doing with them).

At least I've got my storefront semi clear of clutter!

Their answer to me was, "We are not planning on installing any new roads in the future." They do not think that it is necessary to build them for us. SIgh.
