Is there anyone besides Elanthius in the tier rental business? Or anyone not usually in the business who'd be willing to rent me tier for a few months? (Maybe one of Elanthius' tier donors who'll be losing their Ninja income soon, now that he's shutting that down?) His rates are at .25L/m, and I'm looking for something about .10 to .15L/m, for about 10,000 sqm. Any suggestions?

Eli might want to let Elanthius know about this thread, could be bad for business if folks believe it , and start pulling out.

(unless it is true, but that would make no sense, you would think at least his employees would know about it heh)

this is how rumors get started, someone makes a comment someone else sees it believes it, doesn't question it, just repeats it, etc

Rha, Elanthius has stopped taking tier donations and is selling large swathes of his land due to the low land prices.

I haven't seen anything about what this means for tier rentals but I'd imagine he's not looking to take on any new customers. They are definitely reducing their land holdings and reducing the amount of tier they hold, both by selling land and removing people who donate tier from their group.

Yes, he seems to shut down that service, my donation has already been canceled and there was a notice sent out.

I have thought about renting my unused tier to someone else instead, the only problem I see is that if I quickly need some of it for my own purposes it will be difficult to do it that way because then the person I donate to will quickly have to find a replacement donation.
I still don't know how to best do it because I might have to quickly withdraw some donated sqm at some point in the future, but if someone has an idea it would be great :-)

I do have the 10k Rihanna is looking for at the moment, I just can't promise for how long. If you're still interested let me know - I won't be in world though for another few hours!

very interesting, especially since one of his employees did not know about it...

guess I will contact Elanthius and ask him if it is still safe to be renting or should I look at other means.

Well I don't get involved in tier rental... I mostly deal with estate parcel rentals... So there's no reason that I would know, which is why I deleted my post saying I didn't know anything about it. :p

Sorry, but I don't pass on rumors, much less start them. He is shutting down the tier donation side of his business, and he's publicized that himself. I didn't say anything about shutting down the tier rental side, since I don't know anything about that. I specifically said that I was looking for something cheaper than his rates, not that he wasn't offering them anymore.

Minke, that would be fabulous if we can work something out! I'll contact you in-world. (But, please, if anyone has suggestions, do continue to add them.)

TD Realty, run by Timo Daehlie, is a good alternative; he's been around a while, has been instrumental in cleaning up the mainland and the Arbor Project, and always looks out for his customers and the "little guys(/gals)".

The cheapest mainland tier from LL is $US 195 / 65536 sq.m. / month

That works out to L$ 0.800 / sq.m. / month @ L$ 269 exchange rate, or L$ 0.187 / sq.m. / week (assuming a 30-day month).

Acquiring 10,000 sq.m. on your own would put you at 16,384 sq.m. tier, at $US 75 /month. So you'd pay $US 75 / 10000 sq.m. / month = L$ 2.0175 / sq.m. / month @ L$ 269 exchange rate, or L$ 0.471 / sq.m. /month. What's more, in this scenario you'd have to pay up front for the purchase price, perhaps L$ 18,000 @ L$ 1.8 / sq.m. at the cheapest current rate.

If you're looking for L$ 0.10 to L$ 0.15 / sq.m. / week, that would seem to be considerably below market rates.

Am still looking to get into a full sim or even an island at a rock bottom price, if anyone wants to dump one for the tier savings. Let me know.

Thanks for the TD rec! I just finished talking to him, and am off to see if Minke's around yet.

So you'd pay $US 75 / 10000 sq.m.

$65 actually, between two premiums.

Yes, I know. But if someone's not currently using all their tier, due to LL's huge tier-steps, it's still more than they'd be making off it otherwise. I've been donating to Elanthius' group for ages myself, and it's a nice little bit of income for no work. I'm not happy about needing to reverse roles now. *wry smile*

And people keep claiming land bots aren't buying.

Just say a stack of land trade in my sim this week. As usual the new land owners have relisted at unrealistic prices. Now I get to watch over the next few weeks as they lower their prices to sell, or act like idiots and abandon - losing all of their investments instead of just some...

I still see ridiculously priced parcels also. I don't understand it. I assume they are rolling in money to pay all that tier with.

I received this message inworld last week:

Group Notice From: Elanthius Flagstaff

Over the next month or so we will start to phase out tier donations.

Beginning some time next week I will be kicking random tier donators out of the group as we slowly sell off our land and the available tier becomes too much.

Thanks very much for the tier you've donated. Some of you have been with us for years and it has been a deal that was good for both of us. Unfortunately land prices are too low now to make land trading a viable business so we are shutting down that part of our operations.

Depends upon how much land they hold. If they have a full sim's worth of parcels spread across the grid then whether they sell a 4096M parcel or not, their tier stays the same so they have room to hold out for the price they seek.

Some of them will be holding out a long time, asking $100L per meter and up for a run of the mill mainland plot. I've seen a fair few like that.

There are people in RL too who feel they must get what they paid for their property in a seller's market, when it's now a buyer's market and things are in foreclosure all around them.

But prices don't usually go on who needs or deserves the price. Just market value. So they might be waiting a long time.

Some people do that because if someone was silly enough to offer it they'd take it. Others do it to be gits, I've currently got one near one of my parcels, 512 for something like L$65536, ban lines and now a giant picture of The Hoff.
