Cancelled account question

When an account is cancelled, does the account continue to retain the resident name whenever I reactivate it several years from today?

Just wondering, cause my name out there makes a lot of people feel welcome.

You can't reactivate a cancelled account several years from today. After 60 Days, I think, the name is unretrievable

Why cancel? Just go basic and step away from the keyboard.

Well someone hacked into my account today and all I was gonna do was go inactive for several months.

All that meant was that I didn't want to lose my name, just went inactive, meaning I won't be in world...

How do I resolve that?

All I wish to do is ....

edit: and now just to retrieve the name back, its $9.95... come on, *$!& hackers.

You can go inactive without cancelling. Just don't log in. You keep your account, and your inventory that way.

Mentioned above... someone hacked into my account settings and posted it for cancellation. Now it's saying I got till today to resolve this.

EDIT: I wiped out all potential cases and changed password.

Full scoop:

One day, I logged off around 10pm SLT last night. I went to sleep.

This morning, I checked into my account and found out someone flagged it for cancellation.

Now it's saying I have to "pay" (which I just...) to keep my account name.

Over 15,000 residents in world know me... why should I just change my name now and they won't remember me?

The next day, I grew restless. How come bad things happen. Apparently this account name was flagged for cancellation on 1AM SLT (1:00 AM PST) and I wasn't even here to see it happen...

I don't want to leave Second Life!! I will return SOON!

You're going to have to call LL. If you explain the situation they may waive the fee and reinstate your account. You can also submit a support ticket under billing.

Ill try my best, but I'm not guaranteeing anything.

submit a ticket AND contact live chat help quote the ticket number when you get hold of Live Chat... click on the Support tag at the top of this page to get to both the ticket and the chat.

I've tried to submit a ticket to them for the past 2 hours, but it just forwards my page back to where I orginally came from.

Are ticket systems down at this time?

FYI, I've reinstated two different cancelled accounts in the last few months and never was charged the 9.95 fee. Both were basic, so not sure about premium.

How long did you wait to do it? I think if you do it within a day or so you won't be charged. I cancelled my account last year, it is basic, and waited 3 weeks before reinstating, and had to pay the fee.

So your telling me if I wait too long, I'll end up paying the fee?

Yes. If you wait tooo long you may lose your inventory or the account all together. You may want to give LL a phone call.

As long as you can post here, your account is still active.

It's currently pending cancellation from what I read.

What I meant was when the account is on hold, does that disable forum access?

And the downside to this fee, is that I don't have a proper payment method.

No. If it is active but unused, or on hold, you will still be able to access the forums

EDIT: I was finally able to submit a ticket. The hacker war shall end!! I hope. I wish I could still keep my name, just not being active is all.

you should of course also change your password.

did that already but not taking a chance so ill do it again.

Probably be a good idea to disinfect your computer as well. Changing your password not going to help much if you got an active keylogger running that belongs to someone else.

Some stories about hacking told here in this forum are just "unbelievable". Glad I can laugh about it.
