These messages going around have all the signs of a hoax, as the story just keeps getting better and better.

Am I right in my thinking?

A user in a low prim Sonic avatar named "Gogeto Metall" has been crashing regions by using a scripted attack by attempting to rez tens of thousands of prims at one time, often bringing up "object request timed out" messages. It crashed our clients multiple times, despite the land being no-rez.

Attention one user named Gogeto Metall is on his way and rezzed a dangerous script wich can destroy complete sims or the prims on it, 6 sims are destroyed, all sim owner should deactivate rezzing and/or ban him from land. please give this massage to all

[FYI -- For the record, I suspect that Gogeto Metall is quite innocent of the aforementioned crimes, as no avatar is capable of doing them all exactly as described above.]

While someone could possibly crash sims with griefing and possibly via rezzing of objects, there really is not such a thing as "destroy the sim" since it is just a computer rendered image of stuff stored on the servers. When the server comes back up, the sim is there again.

Even with a parcel set to no-rez/build, if object entry is enabled then objects can be brought into the sim.

sounds more like someone pissed at this guy started spreading a rumor

I got these messages in several group chats - NONE of the people spreading the rumour could tell me which regions he had supposedly crashed and wiped out. A friend of mine got the name of a region from one of the rumour-mongers and went off to investigate - everything was fine there. One woman who was ticked off at me for calling it a hoax in a group chat IM'd me and said three different sim admins told her it happened to them and it was true - but she didn't respond when I twice asked her to give me the names of the affected regions.

That was essentially my experience as well. I would not be surprised if this fellow had done some nastiness, but I doubt it would be on the level of what people are claiming. The fact that he's still apparently got an account (or did as of last evening, when I checked & he was on) points to this as well.

This one just hit the TRU group chat:

"WARNING!! BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR Gogeto Metall. HE'S REZZING A SCRIPT THAT DESTROYS SIMS. 6 HAVE BEEN DESTROYED TO MY KNOWLEDGE. DISABLE REZZ OBJECTS AND IF SIGHTED, BAN IMMEDIATLY. PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO ALL GROUPS AND FRIENDS"

btw- no clue what FUD is-

Not this guy's name but a different guy, caused me related damage though to no such extent, when he entered my workshop and starting rezzing hundreds of things til my stuff got returned

Wait... someone's DESTROYING?!!! sims? Crashing, good and fine, 'cause LL does that often enough on their own. But destroying 'em? I'd love to know which sims have been destroyed to the point where everything's gone or the sim itself never recovered from the crash!

Not only that, but if you are on one of those sims when it is attacked, it will wipe out your hard drive.

This has been a real pain....

- I'm in the middle of arranging payments, worth MILLIONS of dollars, from three seprate relations that I never knew existed, who've died in three different African countries...

- also this poor Russian girl wants to be my wife since she can't even afford to heat her apartment and she's got an elderly grandmother (she's really hot too by the photo, the girl, not the grandmother)..

- as WELL as this I'm making the most of cut price vaigra while I can..

- and Alliance and Leceister want be to check my security login details (although I don't remember having an account with them)

and NOW I have to deal with this crap in SL. There just isn't enough time in the day...
