...

I like them for the solid build. Some of those that look good from the outside down function well as actual abodes. Stairs difficult to maneuver, walls that are too insubstantial.

...

'Down'? Where did that come from? Please replace with 'don't'

I'm not sure if this really counts as a castle, but it is a semi-sprawling Japanese mansion I've been developing for the past two years or so. Its half art project and half home for my significant other and myself. Visitors are very welcome, since our "private" space isn't nearby.

I love castles too, and I’ve built and thrown away several in my time, then recently I cam across a parcel that seemed to be crying out for a castle to be built. So far I’ve built and textured the outer shell, now I’ll start trying ideas for inside.

That's a really good use of space and there is a quite a bit of a realistic "feel" to it. The lower levels which are only camera accessible have an awesome potential to them, and it even looks like you have the start of an interesting sewer system at the bottom level (perhaps unintentional).

The only thing I might recommend is finding a way to open up the hall to the outer courtyard so the two spaces blend together somewhat, and to trust your somewhat considerable instinct.

Bah, Humbug! OK where are the 10% that were the best ones?

I think if you think about it for awhile, 90% isn't unreasonable, even for those of us who like to explore a good castle. For every really good castle, yep, there are 9 or more that have spiral 'staircases' you can't get up with a 85% avi, the walls go transparent when you rotate or have a hard prim right outside and there is no logic to the layout. Some castle builders seem to forget there was a hard logic to what a castle was, depending on its purpose, and the layout should reflect a living space, not just a collection of what they think are neat textures and a dungeon to play in.

That said, if anyone knows of a castle built with the idea behind the 'City in the Rocks', where it was actually constructed around a harsh topography to use the topo itself as part of the defenses, I'd love to see it. Most people (like me) use someone else's build and that requires, generally, flat open land or a specific topo to work, so this would have to be a custom build.

That's what I've tried to do with mine.... bought land on the side of a hill and tried to design the castle around the geography (it actually grew "historically" as I bought up more and more land).

Although sorry about the spiral staircases ;)

will get you somewhere near the bottom....

I've bookmarked it to explore more later. Have to head to the in-laws in awhile for their holidays.

Everyone loves a good castle. It is the ultimate in RP living. As a female, I like the impressive exterior of them but I like to have a more bright, modern interior. I have not seen any that have really gone in that direction. I love to see painstaking detail on the outside of these mammoth builds. Anyone have any slurls to post so we can go and check out some of the more spectacular ones?

.

I have been looking for good castles for about 3 months and most look like hell specially when you look close, specially the ones made with way too many sculpties.

Here is a place I just discovered the other day, that has some very nice stuff with great potential. Castleworld - The link:

I checked out a few in detail and the quality seems good to excellent. This might be the work of a German Madman..lol
