Recently I was logging in with the ruth shape. Hair OK. Skin OK. Clothes OK. Shape... Not OK. I couldn't really bring myself to play SL. It was so terrible. Am I too vain? How about you? Would you keep playing with the Ruth shape?

If a relog or two won't undo it, I'll usually do something non-interactive like sort inventory for a while and then try again. Rinse and repeat until I get bored or run out of 'alone' things to do.

'I'm So Vain', also. It happened to me today, just could not get 'my' body. So I TP'd to a noob area. Funnily enough, had a bit of a giggle too. Also helped a heap of people. ..Oli. |

In answer to the OP - I'll continue playing but I won't go anywhere and if I find myself ruthed, I'll immediately tp home. Then I'll just build something without looking at myself....well only occasional peeks to see if my normal appearance has returned. _____________________

So far, it's only happened once for me. I stayed on and did 'alone things' as Ann put it. I certainly wouldn't go out for an evening of dancing the way I looked, so I guess I am vain.

FYI I needed to find a script made by a member of luskwood. I ported to his seller stand in Lusk (it is right at the entry point at Lusk 215,170,62) and another vender had a free de-ruthing object. I haven't been ruthed to try it yet, but it is free and full perm so if it works.. bonus. If not I am not out anything hehe.
Anyway, you may want to run by there and pick it up. It is easy to find at the main landing where you rez. _____________________

I believe it's because the avi you FIRST log on with...when you first sign up with SL is named (temporarily) Ruth. At least...that's the explaination someone gave me. It's when you log on, and you look like a noob again. I have never seen me ruth...my SL partner...sure...MANY times. He says I am just jealous because his boobs are bigger. LOL. BUT if he goes into appearance, he comes back looking normal again. When he sees me ruthed (even though I look normal on my screen) I will go into appearance as well, and it usually fixes it. -Blu- _____________________

Ruth is an avie that comes in your default library. Sometimes when folks log in they show up as her for a brief interval. Quite interesting if you normally have a beard. Its mystical shit, dont try to explain it.

Quite interesting if you normally have a beard. Agree with that one! It's been awhile since I've been ruthed, but when it happens I usually re log, even if I am able to unruth by jumping in and out of appearance mode...I still relog, just to make sure. I have a couple friends who get a big kick out of collecting pictures of all their friends ruthed so I'm doing my best to make sure they don't catch me. |

If I log in as Ruth, and do not revert back to my normal avatar within about 15 seconds, I will log out, as Ruthing is often just the first visible symptom of other more serious problems. I've become so used to the daily grid instability that I don't wait to see if I'm right that there are more problems
I will often try again in 10 minutes or so, but frankly most of the time that happens the grid is shut down 10 minutes later anyways; or just as often there is a notice on "The Blog" about not rezzing anything and avoiding all transactions ("just stay in one place and chat, there's a good boy"  , in which case it's just simply not worth being in-world anyways.. _____________________
