The same way I do in RL.... in boxes, neatly stacked in the room I have that is strictly for hair. j/k! Acutally.. I have one folder labled "hair" and it all goes in there and each time I want to change my style, I dive in, do a LOT of cussing, and eventually find the one I want. I am so NOT an organized person. :D

Your topic header gave me a chuckle. That's one of those sentences that only makes sense in SL.

I don't have enough hair pieces to organize, but I do have separate folder for bald bases. I toss all bald bases into that, even the ones from demos, because they do different things to the eyebrows. My mood dictates whether I choose to look a little angry with lowered brows, or perpetually surprised with high brows, and things in between.

Hair>Style>Maker; ie, Hair>Updos>ETD

If I have a number from that maker, I break it down further by something distinctive about the styles. For example:

Hair>Updos>ETD>Elaborate

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Ditto here. I have a folder. It's called "Hair". ;) I also have a folder called ShapesSkins with, um, shapes and skins in it. I also have a folder called "Shoes". It's not sorted either.....I'm just very good with memorising names of shoes, hair, clothes, and other stuff....with 7,500 items in my inventory....

I delete every color I don't or won't wear. I'm a platinum blonde, so everything goes but that. Other than that, they're all in a folder for long, short, updos. I pretty much know my favorites by name.

I don't have enough hair to worry about organizing it.

But shoes, now . . . that's another matter!

Same here, but topping 56k here, so it's a lot to remember. Actually, it's sorted by designer and I tend to buy the same color/textures from each desiger (Elika's Favorites from Elika, Dirties from Gurl6, Tanned from Calico, etc.) so it's a matter of remembering which style is which from a specific designer. Helps to just quick pop in to the store and find the photo of the style I want to wear and then find it in my inventory ;)

I only use 3 hair-styles, all consistent with each other. I have long brown hippie hair, which I wear loose (part flexi), in a ponytail (flexi) or in a neat bun at the back. I also have a variation that I use with hats so they sit better on my head. I did all these styles myself.

How do I organise them? Well - not too difficult with so few. All my main outfits are in folders that contain everything I need to change, including hairstyle and shape (either standard shape or slightly modified for skirts and dresses to cope with the well-known poofiness problem). When I want to wear clothes that are not in one of the folders, I put on a folder that is nearest to what I want and then change the items I need to.

I also keep copies of the hairstyles in my basic avatar folder, along with skin etc.

Maybe it's different between men and women, but I find hair to be the single most identifiable attribute of an avatar. If I'm in a crowded club with titles turned off, I recognize many of my friends by their hair style and height. But this only works if they don't change their hair often. Other than Halloween and similar, most male avs I know rarely if ever change their hair. And for me, my hair is what identifies me. I haven't changed it at all once I settled on a style to purchase, months ago.
