This morning my hubby was someplace that doesn't need to be named *wink* and some guy bumped into him. He was immediately frozen and the only thing that would stop it was signing off and back on.
Just now, we were somewhere else, and a guy was sitting very close to us. My hubby again got frozen. I TP'd him to where I was and we continued walking. The guy then came from up behind me, and *I* got frozen, but I was able to TP home and be fine.
Both men had dark purple skin, but it wasn't the same guy in both places. Are there griefing tools that allow you to freeze someone?
Also, a friend of mine noticed one night while she was world hopping that the same guy kept showing up where she was. We've since discovered that there are "spy" tools sold that allow you to track someone no matter where they go. I can't think of any good reason for such a tool, so why do these things get to exist, other than to cause someone grief??
In the case of the spytool, is there some way of either protecting yourself from being tracked in the first place, or to find out if someone is attempting to track you?

Are you an FP user? If someone's using the FP tracker, you can use the /1 breach command and that gets rid of any FP trackers. Or you can use the 'sense OBJT' command to find out if there are any scripted items near you. As for this freeze thing, I have no idea, sorry. Sounds very odd.
HOLD ON: If these people are using FP to grief, the /1 breach comand should also unfreeze you. You can alos tp somewhere that's not build enabled and the 'hold' cage should be returned to them.

Freeze thing could be an invisible trap? If something is holding your avatar in place, you might be able to see it using Ctrl+Alt+T (toggle highlight invisible)

From: Day Oh Freeze thing could be an invisible trap? If something is holding your avatar in place, you might be able to see it using Ctrl+Alt+T (toggle highlight invisible) Good advice. If you see it, you can ID the owner and AR same. There are weapons systems that can, for a short time after you tp, ID the place you tp to, and the person can tp there too. Logging out and back in - at a different location! - preferably random! - will break the trail.

A good way to shake the TP trackers off is to TP to an all-water sim like Sif or Quepple before TPing to your final destination.
Let's hope that LL fixes the TP tracking exploit soon.

These tracking scripts were enabled by a recently created LSL command, llGetObjectDetails. The use of it to track avatars across the grid was an unintended exploit, see discussion in Jira SVC-774.
A fix to disallow using the command to locate avatars outside of the sim and a 96m XY radius around the script has been developed. It should role out in one of the upcoming server updates. The fix will break these tracking systems; if you TP to a nonadjacent sim, no one will be able to track you then.
YAY!

Or, just TP twice if you are trying to avoid a tracking device.

I am soooooooo trying to understand what you're saying Does this mean that the exploit is still around and a fix is coming? A TP will clear it either way? Sorry I'm blonde .... but was also thinking about a recent thread in the forum about someone being stalked

Most tp tracker/follower bots are also (usually) foiled by walking onto non-script land before TPing, the ones used by av's are a bit harder to fool (multiple fast tps, or relogging)

Void and Annabelle are both right. The exploit is still around, a fix is coming, but it does take more than one TP to lose your tracker.
Essentially, the avatar with the script can follow you to anywhere in the grid for one TP. The script has to run in the same sim you're actually in, and tracking only works for a certain number of seconds (I forget, 90 or something) after you TP out. So, if you TP two or three times rapidly, they'll probably lose you.

Do you happen to know what the script will return if the avatar does move outside of 96m? I have no wish to track beyond this range, but one needs to know what values are going to come up. Any information about the details of this fix would be welcome.

Nope - all I know is what I read in the discussion of SVC-744. Sorry! But it was a good discussion and the developer who did the fix posted there, perhaps you know him or some of the other folks on the thread? Take a read ...

From: Lindal Kidd Pardon me, but this sounds like utter bilge. It's called "stealing a password." Seriously, on this TP tracking thing, that's an icky thing to have around. Question though: say I'm the "victim" and someone else is tracking me... wouldn't I have to have on my person (worn as an attachment or something) an object that contained this script? How does someone actually FOLLOW someone else across the grid? I've read the explanations, and dammit Jim, I'm a Mining Engineer, not a programmer! Can someone explain this to me in 5th grade terms?

Not sure if this is how its done, but looking at the description of the llGetObjectDetails function:
"If id represents an agent, this function will continue to return information for approximately 45 seconds after they have left the sim (but the information is not updated)."
So assuming it has your UUID (which isn't hard to determine) a script *NOT* on your avatar can return details on you for those 45 seconds. The details available on an avatar are Position, Velocity and Rotation.
