About 20 percent of the times you walk up to someone you look different on other peoples screen even if you look ok on yours. I am not talking about rezzing or the "being ruthed" bug. This is a shape bug that cause you to get shorter, get a slightly bigger head and barely no torso muscles. So, it's your avatar, fully rezzed, but an uglier version. Rebaking textures or going in and out of apparence mode will not fix it like for example the "ruthed" bug. Anyway, very few people know about it since 1: you look normal on your screen so you're not aware of it unless someone tells you. 2: It only happens about 20 percent of the time. I bet this is frustrating for many, knowing that there's a fairly large chance you look quite different on others screen (and not different in a good way believe me ).... I mean a lot of people have spent a lot of time on their shapes and this bug seems to have been around for some time (since there are several threads from 2006 on this subject). We tested this on several computers, with several av's, for a period of time to make sure it wasn't a sim problem, computer problem or bandwidth problem and it seems it is not. It's a bug in the code or there is something wrong with the asset server. thread update: It is listed on SL official bug site now too. Please vote on severity of this bug so Lindex fix it sooner rather than later: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1620

You know, I noticed this happen to my partner recently.
Maybe instead of calling it "being ruthed" this bug should be dubbed "turning oompah loompah"
At least I know it's not just me. I hadn't noticed it as a bug prior to a week or so ago, but if there are threads about it happening over a year old, you can bet its probably one of thos things, like being 'ruthed' randonly that isnt going to go away for a while.
But hey, they did fix the 'head up your arse' bug and it only took them three and a half years (altho I stand vigilant, ready to take a screenshot proving it isn't fixed at all... but that just may be wishful thinking)

Yeah, I did report it. I even added screenshots of how it looks. Anyway, they told me to clear my cache and try again, which I replied that -of course- I have tried it and that it's obviously is not cache related. Now the ticket status just says "work in progress".... been in that status for quite some time. One of my friends who actually was the one who discovered it, got so frustrated she said she might even quit SL over it. I mean if you're are truly ruthed it's actually better because the others can see it is an obvious bug... In this case you just turn into an uglier shorter you and you don't even know it unless someone tells you.

This keeps happening to a friend of mine. Every time he goes on his lady friend's property, he is reduced in height (until he relogs). He jokes that her land is evil and possessed. They were considering exorcism until she acquired property in Caledon -- where he now has a different problem (stuck in an awkward pose in objects when sitting).
Keep us up to date on this problem. If you require more "evidence" let me know (IM me -- I don't read everything on the forums), and I'll pass your information on to my possessed friend.

It happened last night to a girl dancing a little way from me. Yes, I find it annoying that having gone to the time and trouble of setting up a nice avatar it gets screwed with by some rampant code. As for the 'head up your arse' bug, am I right in assuming it's fixed in the latest client .. the one that's failed twice now to load for me? cos it most certainly was not fixed in the previous version.

Looking on the positive side: It's an opportunity for us to learn to ignore the superficial and to love the mind 'inside' the avatar. Be that another mind or our own mind.

Hi Lucrezia, I was going to say I have a similar problem when clicking on a pose but have just thought of a possible reason that might help both your friend and I. Does he have an animation override or wearing a smile or hug? My partner was wearing a smile which caused the hug to malfunction. Now, I've noticed in the past few days that although I seem to pose correctly in some romantic cuddle or chill couple poses, my partner informs me I'm standing looking LOL. Am now wondering if I have myself got a wearable pose that's conflicting. Regards

Hi, Bilbo...
He's had a new AO for a while that's never interfered before but I'll let him know to experiment. But that's what's happening to him... on his monitor it all looks fine and to his lady friend he's standing in the middle of the chair they're supposed to be cuddling in. Hmmnn... food for thought.
My own AO (a neko one) is something I need to shut off pretty much all the time when I want to play with other people's pose balls -- or else my poses get funny. But in the case of my friend, it's intermittent.
And you know how intermittent bugs are the worst to figure out. LOL Good luck with yours!

Here is a link to another thread that talks about it and there is a place to vote to fix it in the Jira. /142/fe/194472/1.htmlMaybe it is just conflicting AO's though, but thought I would mention this possibility.

When we tested this we tried with and without AO's, same results. The support now suggest it might relate to packetloss but there was usually none or extremely little during our tests. Then they suggested updated graphics drivers. They are updated but that's not the issue either since the erronous shape is on -other- peoples screens and looks fine on the owners screen. But anyway, I have one of the better geforce cards and the others that had same bug I talked had ATI cards. This is clearly a bug or an overloaded asset server at Linden and the support guys just replies with copy/paste answers. If it's the latter it would be better to just produce a grey avatar rather than an ugly shorter version with a large head and misplaced primhair avatar.... Before we found this bug I had been puzzled when I saw all these people that clearly were -not- newbies and had expensive primhair sticking out of their eyes and bald spots on their head. Know I understand, they think they look great on their screens and no one tells them how they really look.

Am now wondering if I have myself got a wearable pose that's conflicting. Regards I have noticed this for a year or more through several changes of AO's and HUDs like huddle and a pc and video card upgrade. It isn't client side. Usually one of the two of you see's the other standing or sitting instead of assuming the pose and the user who see's it wrong needs to relog and it is fixed. I have tried everything I can think of to fix it short of relogging to no avail. I believe all users run into this from time to time, especially if you have been on a while.

I always assume I look terrible most of the time. I am kinda shocked when I get complements.

I just saw that this is also on JIRA (SL's bug site). Please, everyone vote on priority on this bug so Lindens give it some priority. Just go here and vote. http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1620

Although this is humorous in a lot of ways, I think it's truly a serious problem. It makes you not really want to walk into a crowd without your friends with you! I was strutting my stuff in a club just last night thinking I was all hot, only to get the IM from my friend, "your shape looks different. You're shorter, etc..." Is there such a thing as an SL "mirror," apart from an accomplice's screenshot?
