If SL made me THAT unhappy, I'd be thinking that maybe a dose of RL could sweeten my outlook. It's not good for any of us to let bitterness overwhelm us.

It's not SL that makes me unhappy, it's Linden Lab. I'm happy with SL.

Same here. I love SL, I just hate the way LL is effectively cutting out the "middle class" with the recent OS decision. In the wake of that debacle, it's hard to take M's post in the spirit I'm sure it was intended.

Wait a sec. I'm definitely feeling "SL Middle Class", and I never had an OpenSpace!

My point is that the choices are somewhat limited by the cost. If you're doing well in RL, you can afford to pay for the new OS tier or even for a full sim. Otherwise, you're limited to either being SL homeless or putting up with the "ghetto" of mainland, with all the ban lines and eyesores.

I consider myself SL middle class, too, but a 67% increase prices me out of that demographic.

I've got 4096 square meters on LostFurest dAlliez, and our group has 1/6th of Noonkkot, and it's anything but an eyesore.

Owning a sim is definitely "SL Upperclass". Even an OpenSpace.

*Shrugs* It's a holiday platitude, just like any other platitude, it mean nothing of any importance one way or the other. A pointless gesture for a pointless celebration as many have forgotten the true nature of it/them anyway, berried in commercialism.

My bit of cynicism for you all.

Hey, some of us live in quite nice parts of mainland, and I would not trade 'em for an island estate if I could. No ban lines around me, and while I've had to deal with some interesting neighbors, I'd rather keep outlasting them than set up somewhere else.

I love Livingtree, dun get me wrong – but I've grown up on mainland. So to speak. ;-)

Beat me to it.

This year, I'm naming the turkey "M".

I always name our Thanksgiving Guest Of Honor after someone on my List. Then I have fun talking to it while preparing it.

We have turkey at Christmas too. His name is that of a certain popular politician.

We have that same tradition in our house since i was a around 9! This year I am cooking 2 turkeys. And i think 'M' and 'Katt' may be appropriate, though 'Jack' is a strong contender. In 2004 we had 'Daniel'.

If you live in comfortable place without the eyesores put it on your
gratitude list.
I am just grateful for computer that can see windlight and when I get
10 fps or more.
I must confess because I can't afford better "canvas" and few other things
SL isn't looking very good at the moment but it might just be because I am
tired, ill and cranky right now.

I have a chunk of mainland, too; and while I was lucky to find nice protected beachfront property, I have a shipyard behind me, and the new neighbor to the east has put up banlines. There was a club there months ago, but they folded. I've done a bit of poking around, looking at mainland parcels for sale. The vast majority that I've seen have something unattractive on at least one side; and with no zoning, almost anything could be rezzed on the other sides.

That's not to say that *all* mainland is ugly; you two have found good spots that meet your needs, and what I have isn't really all that bad. I do have to put up screens to block the view of the shipyard. I've been renting the place out, but we'll probably end up moving back there. A lot of my frustration, though, is that my partner and I worked to create a wonderful island with a secluded grotto inside a dormant volcano, and I can't recreate that on the mainland.

But enough of that OT ranting, and back to the turkey.

Gotta love how people on the forums can turn a simple happy thankgsiving from LL into everything from an attack on openspace policies (get over it) or some strange thought of a hidden conspiracy hidden in the message (I always knew Rob and Torley were aliens but M?).

You can use a prim decoder ring and the Tao of Linden as a key to see the hidden messages. Translation as follows:

"Jesse Barnett has been granted lordship over the Southern Continents for a term lasting no less then 300 years."

I think it's about time for people in general on the forums to get over their problems and stop complaining in general but if you have to complain I suggest flooding Damanios with IM's and PM's with all your complaints.

Sigh. Why does it seem like every thread these days harkens back to that OS thing. Can we just drop it for a while?

Yes, I think the invitation to "be a turkey" was just uncalled-for.

Especially after that gruesome Sarah Palin video.

LOL! I saw that!! Odd thing is, I thought nothing of it?

After reading the blog I'll say its just a Holiday Message. Nothing more.

I think the man is trying to get going on the right foot and have a good relationship with the residents.

QFT!!

Been on Mainland since 2005. Never had a problem.

Ok, when I bought the 2nd piece o' land for residential purposes, my neighbors ended up being Malls.

That was some time ago. Now all the "malls" are gone. I am surrounded by land for sale. :D

I decoded the blog post. If you took every fourth word and turned it into a number beginning with it's place in the alphabet, then converted it via google to Spanish, back to English over to Italian and then added a P there WAS a hidden message.

*whispers* He said "thanks".

/me worries which linden was told to press which button to start what right before shutting off the lights and locking the doors for the long weekend.

Contemplates playing a beta of another game this weekend instead of SL.

mainlander here too

been in the same space for over 2 years...

funny thing happened the other day, met up with one of my neighbors for the first time (and she got land there shortly after I did)

we got to talking and such, and she asked if I got the land from the old Back Seat Norm owners... (she did not look at the land info obviously, as it is still deeded to back seat norm LOL)

anywho.. I was like... um.. I am/was back seat norm.

she was like OMG NO WAY!!!
then tells me she had wanted my land since she bought land on the sim hehe

well I know if I ever sell, someone will buy it LOL

I am lucky, I have really good neighbors, we watch out for each other, and report any kind of junk left behind... have seen lindens in the past out there cleaning stuff out (also had some come over and clean up a few vacant plots for me about a year ago)

ahhh it is not like it used to be, when the lindens could help like they want to... now so much red tape for them to go through :(

I have no desire to move to a private estate be it full or openspace or whatever it is called

I too can not help but wonder why those who are crying the loudest are even here....
If you do not like what is happening, walk away...
(After all, one can not have SL without LL)

Much the same mainland experience here. Neighbors are great and have not changed since I have been here. I pointed this out to a land seller who was bitching about how horrible mainland was and how everyone wanted private island. Then I finished it off by pointing out that before this OS fiasco there were a never ending stream of threads here warning about buying on a private island because you never really owned the land. I also remember all of the requests for a way to label island land for sale as such so that people could stay away.
