Dear emeral devs, You super sekrit decoder ring is apparently able to determine that the intended recipient isn't wearing a decoder ring. So, why don't you tell the sender about it rather than the recipient? Dumbasses. Love, Anya Sorry, but this has to be among the funniest things I've read in a LONG time. You go, Anya!!! _____________________

I only use the Emerald radar for seeing where an av is after I've seen its nearby presence on my normal radar. The Emerald one can't replace the normal type. I have to disagree, I love the emerald radar, dumped my scripted one about 2 minutes after starting to use the emerald one, but of course thats my (not so) humble opinion, and of course your entitled to yours (but mines right!). On the other hand I dislike OTR, because it is buggy on so many levels. Not sure if they have fixed it yet but if you were having an OTR conversation with someone and crashed, it would continue to encrypt the messages. Switch viewers, or have IM's go to email and you got gibberish. _____________________

You keep that big box open all the time? I couldn't do with that on-screen all the time. _____________________

Mine is only a 22" widescreen but I wouldn't want it open all the time with one your size, Lil. And I don't even want all the avs it lists in it. I only want those that are nearby. The rest just get in the way even though they are sorted by distance.

So don't use it. Go back to the LL viewer and complain straight to LL when you find problems in it. I'm not using it. That's the problem. The person who is using it is not told about the problem. The person who isn't using it receives the message. Worse, the person who did receive the message can't tell the person who should have received the message. _____________________

Emerald is for advanced, technically inclined users. Advanced users will not misunderstand these things, and know what they are doing. Says who? Not Modular Systems. _____________________

LL is about to make an announcement concerning 3rd party viewers and I think it's the encryption that kicked it off.

No I was talking about the entire viewer not just that small part of it. I notice severe performance degradation whenever somebody tp's into a sim and I am wondering if a viewer that is sending a gazzilion requests could have an impact.. and don''t get your panties all ruffled up yet.. I won't bash the thing unless I have a reason to. For severe performance degredation, google mono scripts and teleporting and you'll arrive here:- http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-3895 Now wait for someone with shoes from say Stiletto Moody, 400 scripts per pair, some Damselfly hair another 200 scripts, a skirt with resize scripts, maybe another 150 scripts. Watch that sim die as it tries to instantiate 750 mono compiled scripts... Or we could just blame it on the Emerald viewer as being evil. It actually occurred to me today how funny it was at the last Stiletto Moody launch. Nobody could move, nothing would rez, the sim was basically at a complete standstill. All the lovelies wanted to turn up in their overscripted SM shoes thus bringing upon themselves and the creator their own denial of service. lol. |

LL is about to make an announcement concerning 3rd party viewers and I think it's the encryption that kicked it off. Well, I can understand why chat encryption would bother LL. In spite of what they protest to the otherwise, they are ultimately responsible for what happens on their grid. Courts help them if they don't have the evidence all neatly stowed against future problems. (Or at least that's what they're excuse will be.) _____________________

You keep that big box open all the time? I couldn't do with that on-screen all the time. No, I'm not so paranoid as to need to know who is sneaking up behind me, I only open it when I need to know who is around. If I have it going constantly how is anyone going to be able to sneak up on me and kidnap me?!?! _____________________

If I have it going constantly how is anyone going to be able to sneak up on me and kidnap me?!?! Of course, if that's all you use any radar for, then the Emerald one is just fine - better, in fact, as it's just a button click away. I think that most of us who use a radar, like to have the little list in a corner of the screen though. _____________________

You need more than the Emerald Radar box then. You also need to tell us where you'll be - and when. Of course, if that's all you use any radar for, then the Emerald one is just fine - better, in fact, as it's just a button click away. I think that most of us who use a radar, like to have the little list in a corner of the screen though. Err my location is errm secret, and I'll be there 5 minutes after you leave! I used to be like that, always curious who was around, now I just use it for locating people in sims when they are yelling for help ![]() _____________________

Generally speaking, my policy is "3rd party, beta, and first look viewers are not supported; contact your viewer's support organization for problems".
That said, I'll try and help if I can, but I am not going to be on the hook for someone else's problems. <.< We've had this policy at the Isle for years since the first First Look viewer caused money transfer problems with vendors. |

I now find that when I'm asked for help here or in-world, about 50% of the time I have to first ask: "Are you using the standard viewer?"
I guess that will go to 100% once Viewer 2.0 is added to the mix along with Emerald, 1.23.mumble, Snowglobe, and all the ghetto-chic urbalife viewers. |

You keep that big box open all the time? I couldn't do with that on-screen all the time. I poked around the settings, and i have it set where it announces when someone enters the sim i am on (Usually my own) and with in chat range. I usually only open the big box when i don't *see* them.I admit i was addicted to my *local* radar on the bottom right of my screen, but since i keep the chat history window open, i can pretty much keep track easily enough unless we get super busy Since i tend to be wearing lots of prims (not scripts i remove the size scripts as soon as it fits) i figure the more i can do to reduce my *own* lag the better. Using the built in AO & Radar has helped... maybe not a HUGE help, but every little bit counts ~Brie _____________________

During the Emerald install process it asked if I wanted to enable OTR and said it was recommended. It's certainly not the case that users are just going into the options and turning on OTR for the hell of it. Maybe it wasn't being pushed before in previous installs and maybe they've taken it out of the install process already. Anyhoo, Emerald works great for me.

If 'required' is something that an Emerald user has to turn on, as Viktoria said, then I'd just ignore them after replying to the first IM. It's their choice, and their loss. |

That's not what I meant, Meade. I meant that, if Emerald only has the radar button, then it's not the type of radar that we normally use, because it's not on-screen all the time. It can be be, of course, but it's a big box to have open all the time. Also, it lists avatars that are a long way away, even in the next sim, making a big list, much of which isn't wanted. The type of radar we are used to is one that's on-screen all the time and only lists those avs that are nearby. In other words, the Emerald radar isn't really a radar in the way that we mean radar. I asked because someone used the term "local radar" and I wondered if Emerald has another one, more like a normal radar, that needs opting in for. I only use the Emerald radar for seeing where an av is after I've seen its nearby presence on my normal radar. The Emerald one can't replace the normal type. Emerald can send the radar info into a local chat channel so you can also use a HUD to pick up the data and display it. There seems to be one freebie version of a radar HUD that can deal with it on XSL, but I don't remember the name. Oh, and for me, Emerald doesn't crash 5x a day and has solved the "only avatar attachments visible when new avatar coming into view range" issue. |

Yeah, you can do that, but it reintroduces most of what makes radars pig out on script time in the first place, and then some. |

Of course it does, but Phil prefers lag over the "monstrous" but resizable Emerald radar window.
