From: RockAndRoll Michigan There is a good point brought up here, in-world notices. There was once a time when nothing important would ever happen without an in-world notice. Rolling restarts are beginning? People who are logged in would be told about it so they know to expect strange things (even in sims that have already been restarted or won't be for another four or five hours, it would still impact them). Transactions are failing, or you can't rez things? In-world notice pops up. Everything we needed to know about was accompanied by an official LL announcement.
These days that's extremely rare because we are all expected to read these things on the grid status page. How many of us really spend all our time obsessively monitoring that page for every little change that comes up while we're using SL? In some groups I belong to people sometimes will copy and paste grid status page notifications if they see them, to make sure they're not missed. I like that, shows better support for LL's customers than that which LL themselves provide.
They need to bring back in-world notification. Exactly. Not everyone multitasks when they are in SL, or has dual monitors or whatever. They are doing stuff IN SL. If something happens in SL, that's where it should be announced. Granted, if something happens, you can go look at the status page, but a warning should be given for something like this. I was in a RP when I got a notice, so I was able to TP home and wait it out, but if I hadn't received the warning and just crashed, I would have been a bit miffed. Lately it seems LL is spending so much effort getting people to constantly look at that awful new website, as opposed to doing things inworld.

From: Lyla Tunwarm If we can't expect them to run a simple grid status page properly what makes anyone think they can run the grid properly? I think they've proven they can't always do so Often. A lot. Recently. Now, I admit, the grid is a lot more stable than in the past. We don't have the entire grid being shut down to fix things anymore.. though I really wish they'd do that when it's an asset server failure.

There is actually a Gridwatch HUD* that monitors the status page and will alert you to any new posts there when you're inworld. I've known it to actually be faster than the page itself at updating, although I don't know how. Problems the HUD has alerted me to haven't even shown up on the status page until several minutes later. Obviously, it takes up one of your HUD spots, but when SL is being continually wonky (every day?) it's pretty useful. *No, I'm not affiliated

Without the inworld notices, you still have no clue if you are suddenly going to be tossed out due to a sim restart.

Agreed, Lil, but for general bork-ups (asset database, etc) it's still the best notice I've found, short of checking the status page all the time.

From: Pattigee Paine That was for yesterday, right at the top of the page.......VIKTORIA!!, as demonstrated by the use of multiple question marks for a query title.

From: Pattigee Paine Maybe some people are not quite as smart as other people,VIKTORIA! as evidenced by the use of multiple question marks as a subject heading for a query.
