How much is enough to Return

I thought I had read that an object had to be 50% on your land for you to return it - how is that 50% figured. Here is a picture of my neighbors leaving one of their miliary planes partially on my land. I created a small wall, positioned right at the edge of the parcel and then raised it to the airplane. To me it looks like more than half of the plane is on my land - but maybe only based upon dimensions rather than physical mass.

That brings up the question, is it the whole object or individual prims that have to be 50% over your land? And what effects will linking or being unlinked have?

It depends where the root prim is.

Yep.. The ground directly below the exact center of the root prim is the land that owns the entire object.

edit: and the 50% thing isn't something I've heard of before.. I don't think that's a real rule.

Yep, the root prim's all that counts. All you can do it IM the helicopter owner and ask them, nicely, to move or remove. it. Send a few IM's over a few days, but give them a bit of time to respond - they may only log in occasionally.

As a last resort, if you hear nothing, or they refuse to move it, lodge an AR for parcel encroachment.

If the object can be pushed, or if anyone can fly it, you can move it onto your land and then return it. I've been able to do that a couple times with things that were partially over my land.

If you finally lodge an AR, follow up with a support ticket asking to remove the object. Don't forget to specify the exact coordinates (region name + (x, y, z) coordinate vector).

It's possibly there by accident, like they might have been flying it and their computer crashed and they forgot about it when they relogged.

My neighbor showed me one time how you can wiggle a physics-enabled shim under some kinds of encroaching objects and let the sims physics move the object a little bit. Not sure if it works under Havok 4 at all though.

If you wanted to be a little bit devilish, you could build a "wrecked" Crash and burn version complete with burning Debris and police tape to slip over it with the root prim on your land.

If you could push it, why not push it off of your land and back on to theirs as opposed to the other way around?

Because you don't get the pleasure of returing it.

The return also has the added benefit of giving a nudge to the person who owns the object since they should get a notificiation. Maybe the OP could change her parcel name to "Get your damn stuff off my land, you freak!" or something before returning it.

LOL.......I could see that if she had spoken with them first and they refused! :D

I pushed on it and it didn't seem to budge, but then after a minute or so of pushing, it just poofed and vanished -- and nobody was in the other parcel at the time. Anyway, it is gone now.

It's not a matter of how much. If the X and Y coordinates of that prim are on your land, it should show up in the About Land window and be returnable.

The center of the root prim has to be on your land.

The easiest way to find out if it's returnable is to right click and see if 'Return' is able to be clicked. If so, it's possible to return it. If the root prim is on their land, then thatoption will be grayed out.

To see where the root prim is centered, you can edit the object and look for the red/green/blue lines coming out of it. Where the blue line (which should go straight up & down) hits the ground is the parcel that the object is on.

There's really no "how much of it..." here - where that blue line hits land is the only thing that matters.

Except that I quite often have the Admin option checked which will always show me the Return option, even if I cannot really use it.

I thought I would only see the positioning lines on an object if I have permission/ability to move it?

And what would be the deciding factor if the center of that root priim was right on the property line?

Just curious, why have admin options on? Does it actually give you anything you can use?

Not sure how Linden handles rounding of micro-measurments in cases like this.... but there is no physical 'property line' per se. Property lines are just a visual construct.

Because parcels can only be divided in 4m increments, property lines always end at 4.000 Meter offsets. The exact center of the root prim of an object can only be on one side of the line, and not both at the same time.

What I'm trying to say in english is: If you look at the exact center of the root prim down to the finest thousanth of a meter, It'll end up being truly on one side of the property line or another... and not both.

Funny thing is I don't even remember what I turned this on for, but it never seems to fail that I'll turn it off and then something comes up and then I will remember what it is useful for. Next time that happens, I'll have to make note of what I use it for.

I did verify that if you cannot modify the object, you cannot isolate out the root prim nor see any of the positioning lines.

You can isolate the root.

Right click > more > more > inspect. The pink highlighted object is the root
