Paid L$5 sqm. Could have got it for a bit less if I'd waited a couple of weeks.

You probably could indeed get it for less.
And maybe if what you want is a skybox and maybe are not very demanding of script performance, it would a wonderfully good deal.

Not all square metres are equal.

hehehe There's a parcel right down the road from my house (same sim, opposite side of the forthcoming LL road) for sale. It's a small parcel, 610m at a bargain price of L29999!

ouch

Apparently not obvious enough for you to have dumped you land when you should have.

Ok Nostradamus, as you saw the fallout from the gambling ban coming maybe you should be selling your wonderful financial acumen inworld.

What we've seen isn't a gradual drop, its been a big slump.

Land bots are set at around L$6.0 a meter for green land right now. Sadly, L$8.0 won't even get you on the first three pages of mainland land listings.

If you have time, prices are creeping up a bit.

The slump is due to the unrelenting release of sims to auction more than the casino ban. They relented for one day yesterday and prices already went up a bit.

The deluge was actually worse a couple of months ago... but that's part of the business. It is fraught with risk.

If you look here it looks like the last few weeks have been just as delugious:

BTW, any guesses as to what J.B. is going to do with the over US$100K's worth of sims he's bought in the last month?

The prices have slumped since the gambling ban, prior to that there was a gentle fall. The gentle fall was the intention. I don't think it's merely coincidence that the slump has came since the gambling ban, it accelerated the fall in prices far more than people anticipated.

Well, it was sustained for longer... too early to tell which is truly worse. And the market has taken a bigger dip, for reasons that are not necessarily obvious. I would say it's grid stability, though, that is the smoking gun, but of course, YMMV.

I'm not saying the gambling ban has not been part of it. Certainly a lot of the new sim land remains unsold because there are no new or existing casino owners buying it. But still, as always, the number of new sims to auction has the biggest effect on prices. Yesterday was the first time prices have gone up in weeks and it was also the first day they did not release 10 sims to auction (only two). Now they have resumed dumping again today.

Could be a new linden strategy... people ar emore likely to invest more time in the game, if they own land, and tinker around with it. if land is more affordable, it costs the lindens nothing, but increases the economy dramatically, because more users stay in game, and also feed the clothing/hair/house/landscaping markets.

IMHO, if land were 1/2 the going prices, they might increase gamer retention by 10-20%. That would create a massive boost in other no land sale ecomonies, and also shore up losses from gambling monetary traffic.

I've seen quite a few n game freinds invest more time in the gam ealready because prices have dropped.

I'd love to see land hit $1000 per 512 plot, and though real estate players would hate it, other players would love it. You see a lot more mainland store attempts, and most likely a huge influx of regualr players who might have just wandered in, and left.

I'm trying to remember when the gambling ban took effect, but the relentless dumping of sims to auction really started the first week of August, according to the Auction Statistics link in Raymond's post. If that coincided with the gambling ban in the same way that it coincided with the recent price slump, then the factors are hopelessly confounded.

I'd own more land if it didn't cost me another 70 bucks a month to do it.

It will never go that low because of the base auction price of sim land. But they could achieve the same thing by reducing monthly tier fees.

Keep in mind the initial price for land at smaller sizes is much less a factor than how much you end up paying in monthly tier.

On second thought, though, the extremely painful 1.16 and 1.17 updates and their associated issues gave me pause about putting any more money into this game. I can't be the only one.

It did and they are.

But prior to the ban, the number of sims to auction was the primary factor for prices. Land bots, performance issues etc. did little to affect prices, but the occasional 40 sim in a day dump got things moving in a hurry.

From a LL standpoint, anything that can boost game player retention is a good thing. There are SO many accounts created, and not used its staggering, and you can't attribute 8 million accounts to alts, when there are only 40,000 players on at any given time.

I dropped my sl subscription and bought etate land, because it was SO much cheaper then owning mainland, and there arer zoning restrictions.

For LL to get 100,000 ppl online on a regular basis quickly, they'd need to drop subscription cost, and decrease land costs... and maybe start making soem resident only sims, with commerical use restrictions.

Odds are, you'd see people currently on commercial allowed sims reloate to resident only sims, and more people buy land in th eolder commercial sims for stores.

That would increase across the board store traffic, since they would all be closer together, and the economy increase from 50% more regular players would offset any real estate business losses.

Hey Tory.. where are ya?? read this thread! ;)

I am so sick of loseing money in SL. Land prices has just completely dipped at a point when I am trying to sell a whole parcel. I am now down to less than 8L$ per sq m.

Shipper, SL land prices are finally getting back to their historic normal levels. You had the misfortune to join SL during the begining of a big land price bubble.
