Can't someone attack something that I either do or approve of ... please?

Very well.

By making items that are very low prim AND at very low prices, you are not only encouraging LL to provide a sub-par product that only supports low prim items, but also undermining the economy of those of us who would like to make more realistic, prim intensive products for sale.

All us avies want to step out and be noticed. If you're going to promote this low prim idea, what's the point? We may as well go back to text chat rooms.

(There. How'd I do?)

Phil, Have your doctor give you a script for 'Chantix'
It's what I used...kicked the habit after doing two packs a day for 35+ years
Worked for me. And you're right, it is marvelous to be smoke free :D
Good luck!!

I'd love to help but someone else has to start. Once things get a little snarky I'll dive in and attack Phil's arguments and tone and business ethics, and other meta-issues as applicable.

Just trying to do my part. :)

I could, but I'm not looking for attention - I only want to get my teeth into something :)

We could start a ferocious debate over whether or not XStreet should still be showing adult items and items with extreme violence on the homepage front listings.... That might be good for a few pages of "more nanny statism" vs. "why is consistent policy so hard?"

That won't hardly have any firepower if there is not at least one child avatar on the same page with the adult items!

Phil, take a look at the electronic ciggies.. you get the nicotine, but none of the other dangerous chemicals in your lungs, and all you exhale is water vapor.

I just recently got the Blu system in, and it's rather nice. Got the low nicotine version, but my next order will be nicotine free.. I use it for the taste. Love the mint and cherry flavors.

Well, I know that Immy smokes... errr.. well, sort of after certain activities.. and her smoke in 100% tobacco free.. ;P

And since certain superman foes have declared that no matter what Immy states, she is a child AV, perhaps it will have the same explosive power.. *grins*

I've read a fair amount about it on the web. There are different products, of course. The Royal College of Surgeons say that it's 100 times safer than smoking. I do know that it's not safe but it's a lot safer than smoking.

Patches do the same thing and I think I'll probably go onto them in a few months. My primary objective is to stop smoking.
I saw this product for smokers. I quit in 2005 but I like the idea of the non-nicotine version of this

i've made enough money from camping to buy LOTS of land, pay ALL the tiers, shop til i drop, pay rent on MORE land, pay 3 memberships, AND cash out - ALL at the same time.

i have been effectively removed from the economic cycle.

WTF PHIL?! LEAVE THAT CRAP ALONE!! Its even WORSE than smoking. EVERYONE in the Navy did that, and so many Navy hospitals have tables set up showing the mouth, tongue, throat damage caused by dipping/snuff.

########## PICS REMOVED TO SPARE THE HORROR ########### (bri)

Research it yourself to see!

Don't do that to your body!

Snus

Not Snuff. Lets not confuse the American version with the Swedish one.

BIG difference.

Where as Snuff (the american stuff) is fermented and quite strong, Snus is pasteurized. Snus is pretty weak when it comes to carcinogens.

I've been using it and yea, its really weak compared to snuff.

As you said yourself "research it".

Compared to the chemicals & resins I've worked with, tobacco is harmless.

It does seem that Snus is rather new and they have no data on it to compare it to dipping.

Be well!

It isnt new. Well it is to America.

And it is new enough in America for there to be no test data on it.

...repeating myself here...for some reason.

Facts You Should Know About Smokeless (Spit) Tobacco

Smokeless (spit) tobacco is not safer than smoking. In fact, smokeless (spit) tobacco is just as dangerous to your health as cigarette smoking. People who dip or chew increase their risk of:

* Mouth cancer — in cheeks, gums, lips and tongue. Smokeless (spit) tobacco users have a 50 per cent higher chance of getting gum and cheek cancer than non-users.

* Throat and stomach cancer — cancer of the voice box and cancer of the esophagus.

* Heart disease — heart attacks, strokes and high blood pressure.

* Dental diseases — stained teeth, tooth decay, receding gums, gum diseases, bad breath and black hairy tongue.

* Stomach problems — ulcers, stomach upset and increased bowel activity.

* Loss of taste and smell — which causes loss of appetite, and in turn results in poor nutrition and poor health.

*

Physical changes — fatigue, muscle weakness, dizziness and decreased physical performance.

* Also, they spread germs by spitting, risking infection of others.

3. Smokeless (spit) tobacco is as addictive as smoking cigarettes. Addiction means getting hooked to a powerful drug called nicotine.

Each tin of snuff contains a lethal dose of nicotine.

Holding an average-sized dip or chew in your mouth for 30 minutes gives you as much nicotine as smoking four cigarettes.

Because smokeless (spit) tobacco is absorbed rapidly into the bloodstream through the lining of the mouth, it may be even more addictive than smoking cigarettes.

4. At least 70 per cent of all major league baseball players don’t chew or dip. Surveys show that two out of three players who use smokeless (spit) tobacco would like to quit! Over half of the players who chew or dip report gum problems and dental diseases.

Recently, both professional baseball (minor leagues) and junior hockey (Western Hockey League) have banned the use of smokeless (spit) tobacco by players, coaches and officials.
Why do some athletes use smokeless (spit) tobacco?

Many try dipping out of curiosity or encouragement from a friend or teammate. In the past, tobacco companies provided free smokeless tobacco (as free advertising) to players and their teams.

It doesn’t take long to become hooked. Many find that once they start it’s hard to stop.

5. Tobacco harms all users, some more severely than others. Just because someone doesn’t have any noticeable side effects from using smokeless (spit) tobacco, it doesn’t mean he won’t in the future. Often by the time the signs are noticeable, it’s too late. Mouth cancer is very hard to cure and can spread rapidly throughout the body.

*

Former Chicago Cubs first-baseman Steve Fox chewed tobacco for six years. He developed white patches in his mouth and a sore on his tongue that wouldn’t heal. His doctors told him he had cancer. Half of his tongue had to be removed.
*

Sean Marsee, an Oklahoma track star, started using snuff when he was 12 years old. He died of mouth cancer at the age of 19.

Its bad stuff Phil and highly addictive I used it when I was in the Middle east as smoking wasn't always easy and I wish I hadn't it was bad getting off of it if you need the nicotine use a patch as has been suggested but not this crap :)

Thank you for all the suggestions, folks. Unfortunately I haven't been able to take umbridge at any of the 'attacks', but thank you for trying :)

The snus stuff is very interesting though. I did some more 'research' and I still find the same things. I haven't found anything that suggests what Briana pointed out. I can only assume that those nasty effects were caused by similar but different products.

Lord. The friend who introduced me to snus said that it's probably harder to quit it than to quit smoking. Even so, it's the smoke that I wanted to be free from - not tobacco and definitely not the taste (the taste is big part of smoking for me). I acquired a permanent pulminary problem (COPD) a few years ago. It isn't bad but it's there - you would only notice it if you saw my carrying something heavyish - I'd be unusually breathless. Smoking can't be neutral as far as that's concerned. After only 6 days of being smokeless I tried my peak flow meter, just out of curiosity, and I blew 540s and 550s, which completely amazed me. The best I'd done before that was 450 and less. I'm also noticing another significant improvement concerning the COPD.

The suggestions about nicotine-free smoking are very interesting. I didn't know such things existed and I might track them down. Like probably most smokers, I would prefer not to be bound to tobacco at all, but I haven't made a decision to stop - I don't have the strength of desire for that. The snus idea coincidentally came at a time when I was wanting to stop shovelling smoke into my lungs and, right now, I'm delighted to be smoke-free.

If it serves as a short-term device just to get you to quit smoking, then great - but do move over to safer alternatives as soon as possible, Phil. Wish you success :)

Why don't you try the copybot thread? You could liven that up.

Sorry Phil, I can't help as you have cleaned up your act considerably (as most people seem to, despite decrying my motives and methods) seeming to check your spelling and grammar before posting even, rather than making correction edits afterwards. ;)

Pep (I'll forgive the recent 'pulminary', as it is obviously a typo for 'pulmonary', i and o being adjacent on the keyboard. :p )

Aha! It wasn't a typo. It's a word that I'm not used to seeing so it was a genuine mistake.Ty, for pointing it out :)

It wasn't intended as a temporary step along that path, but I was so amazed at how the physical desire to smoke disappeared immediately that I thought I might try patches in a few months time. I'd previously thought that patches would be useless for me.
