Can't someone attack something that I either do or approve of ... please? Since the ban on traffic bots, this forum has become very dull for me. There aren't any threads any more that I can get my teeth into. I've even resorted to things like cutting the hedges, watching TV and miscellaneous bits of tidying up. I'm beginning to forget who Sling is, and there have even been a couple of pleasant exchanges between Chris Norse and me. The forum sky is definitely falling in for me A bit of personal news while I'm here... I stopped smoking 16 days ago and it's been extremely easy, but that's because I'm still using tobacco - just not shovelling smoke into my lungs any more. A friend inroduced me to snus, which is a snuff-like substance in tiny teabag-like packets that's put under the upper lip. I hesitate to say how many decades I've been smoking, but I'm delighted to finally be free of the smoke.

It doesn't make me feel better at all. I know you camped to pay for tier.
LL keep on shooting themselves in the foot. The traffic bots and traffic camping ban has turned out to be sheer rubbish. It's been over 2 months since it came into force and the grid still have enormous numbers of them.

Its even WORSE than smoking. EVERYONE in the Navy did that, and so many Navy hospitals have tables set up showing the mouth, tongue, throat damage caused by dipping/snuff. ########## PICS REMOVED TO SPARE THE HORROR ########### (bri) Research it yourself to see! Don't do that to your body!

You are way better off inhaling nicotine and its 4004 chemicals than putting the stuff under your tongue, in your cheek, in your lip, etc.
Go back to smoking! Try smokeless ciggies!

Phil, i do not have to know you in RL to know that i would not want that kind of harm to come to you.
Please rethink this new "alternative".

Sheesh. Thank you, Briana. I did NOT need those pictures. I'm not easy to gross out but that was not something I needed to see before going to bed.

I've read a fair amount about it on the web. There are different products, of course. The Royal College of Surgeons say that it's 100 times safer than smoking. I do know that it's not safe but it's a lot safer than smoking.
Patches do the same thing and I think I'll probably go onto them in a few months. My primary objective is to stop smoking.

So, let me get this right. You're complaining about a lack of drama and people not calling you names? heesh:

Oh JESUS you are going to trust those low paid, non capitalist motivated people!?!??!?!?!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! ---------------- Facts You Should Know About Smokeless (Spit) Tobacco Smokeless (spit) tobacco is not safer than smoking. In fact, smokeless (spit) tobacco is just as dangerous to your health as cigarette smoking. People who dip or chew increase their risk of: * Mouth cancer — in cheeks, gums, lips and tongue. Smokeless (spit) tobacco users have a 50 per cent higher chance of getting gum and cheek cancer than non-users. * Throat and stomach cancer — cancer of the voice box and cancer of the esophagus. * Heart disease — heart attacks, strokes and high blood pressure. * Dental diseases — stained teeth, tooth decay, receding gums, gum diseases, bad breath and black hairy tongue. * Stomach problems — ulcers, stomach upset and increased bowel activity. * Loss of taste and smell — which causes loss of appetite, and in turn results in poor nutrition and poor health. * Physical changes — fatigue, muscle weakness, dizziness and decreased physical performance. * Also, they spread germs by spitting, risking infection of others. 3. Smokeless (spit) tobacco is as addictive as smoking cigarettes. Addiction means getting hooked to a powerful drug called nicotine. Each tin of snuff contains a lethal dose of nicotine. Holding an average-sized dip or chew in your mouth for 30 minutes gives you as much nicotine as smoking four cigarettes. Because smokeless (spit) tobacco is absorbed rapidly into the bloodstream through the lining of the mouth, it may be even more addictive than smoking cigarettes. 4. At least 70 per cent of all major league baseball players don’t chew or dip. Surveys show that two out of three players who use smokeless (spit) tobacco would like to quit! Over half of the players who chew or dip report gum problems and dental diseases. Recently, both professional baseball (minor leagues) and junior hockey (Western Hockey League) have banned the use of smokeless (spit) tobacco by players, coaches and officials. Why do some athletes use smokeless (spit) tobacco? Many try dipping out of curiosity or encouragement from a friend or teammate. In the past, tobacco companies provided free smokeless tobacco (as free advertising) to players and their teams. It doesn’t take long to become hooked. Many find that once they start it’s hard to stop. 5. Tobacco harms all users, some more severely than others. Just because someone doesn’t have any noticeable side effects from using smokeless (spit) tobacco, it doesn’t mean he won’t in the future. Often by the time the signs are noticeable, it’s too late. Mouth cancer is very hard to cure and can spread rapidly throughout the body. * Former Chicago Cubs first-baseman Steve Fox chewed tobacco for six years. He developed white patches in his mouth and a sore on his tongue that wouldn’t heal. His doctors told him he had cancer. Half of his tongue had to be removed. * Sean Marsee, an Oklahoma track star, started using snuff when he was 12 years old. He died of mouth cancer at the age of 19. --------------------------------------------------http://www.presmark.com/htmlfile/smokeless.htm

I do appreciate your concern, Briana, but Swedish snus, which is what I'm using, is not the same thing. Even the American variety of snus isn't the same. Here's the URL of an article about the Swedish snus, and there are many more all saying the same sort of things about it:- http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2007-05-09-200069294_x.htm

Why you gotta go a poo-poo my crusade with your silly information! It does seem that Snus is rather new and they have no data on it to compare it to dipping. You are a pioneer for medical historical data Phil! (Well hopefully not since most pioneers of medical data are usually recognized posthumously!) Good luck Phil! It would be BEST, if you did not switch to a substitute but instead stopped all together, but i know it is easier to say than do, especially for outsider non-smokers like myself. But you know this. Be well!

hehe. I don't look anything like that Swedish snus isn't new at all - it's been in use a very long time. The study that the article mentions lasted for 20 years, and it started in 1978, so Swedish snus must have been in use long before then. There are different smokeless tobacco products, some of which are more harmful than others. The products that you've talked about are not Swedish snus. Everything I've read about Swedish snus is very favourable when compared to smoking. No articles that I've found contain anything negative about oral effects, except the one I gave the URL for (the USA TODAY one). It said that it did not increase the risk of oral cancer. We are talking about similar, but different things.

Well done giving up the smoking, I got my Ex to stop by just telling her the sex stopped if she started smoking again
