Sorry to post what may be a redundant thread but I'm getting desperate and it's been about two weeks since this started. JIRA has a bug ( https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-323) of the exact problem I'm having, however the bug was 'resolved' last year. For those why don't want to read the bug details, in a nutshell; My head, from the neck up, is colored whatever color my hair happens to be. No skins, or any other texture, has any affect on this coloration. No change to my hair shape, and/or texture has any affect. The only thing I can change is the color of both my hair and head. My friends see the same thing as I do, and no amount of cache-clearing, reinstallation, client version (latest official or release candidate), or even computer has any affect on this behavior. Any advice on what to do? Also, on a side note, I've got an article of clothing, a 'jacket' that when worn turns my legs white. This occurs regardless of what skin, texture, or clothing are already mapped to my legs. This also started about the same time as the head/hair color problem. I can duplicate this any time I wish, and anyone nearby experiences it as I do. Any help/suggestions would be most appreciated, thanks.

you did not mention if you went to the default avatar just in case your avatar is corrupted
it is in the advanced menu I think under character, character test then load female or something like that (not logged in to check exact wording)
just remember where all your attachments, skin shape etc are, so you can put them all back on
what it does is basically renews the default avatar we all have under our skins shapes hair etc

Yes, I tried the default avatars, both male and female, and a variety of other avatars, no such luck. I've cleared my cache (multiple times now) to no benefit. I've had a friend clear his cache to no avail. It seems to me if it's a cache corruption in my part, then only I would be affected, however, anyone I've come into contact with (and asked) noted that my head does appear to be all one color from the neck up. Thanks for the suggestions.

Silly question, but what happens if you wear a bald hair? Are you talking about prim hair or system hair?

And just out of interest sake, does that also happen if you log in with a different PC?

My avatar is normally bald. Adjusting the hair style has no affect, nor does wearing different hair objects from other avatar kits, or creating a new hair object from scratch.
I've tried three computers (a laptop and two desktops) running Vista Ultimate, xp, and xp64. Between the two desktops it's nvidia 8800 gtx on one side and ATI 3870x2 on the other (the laptop is a nvidia 6800 go I believe). Both show the same thing, and in the case of the nvidia desktop both the release candidate and the official client do the same. I even tried a opengl compile I found on one of the alternative client sites (onrez) and it also does the exact same thing. Regardless of everything I've attempted, it's as if somehow my hair color is being spread evenly over my entire head.
Also, I just realized that the example images provided in the JIRA ticket show facial hair. I have the exact same hair, and no amount of jiggling with the settings changes the appearance.

I've had this happened once or twice with items of clothing that have permanently changed texture. Luckily with clothes I can just throw them away. However, the basic problem sounds similar. How about getting an alt. to make a replica of your appearance, putting all the bits in a folder and giving it to you to wear? That might by-pass the problem.

Have you tried contacting the original jira poster just in case he can relate how his friend solved the problem?

My name? Thanks.
I'll attempt to track down the original bug submitter, one can always get lucky I suppose. Considering the massive number of bigger issues SL is currently experiencing I doubt walking around like a somewhat strange unshaven clown is going to get much in the way of priority.
Other interesting bits, it seems that my fingernails, if colored any sort of color and enabled (set beyond 0) cover my entire upper torso. So, I can be anywhere from pink to black.
It seems that I just can't enjoy SL for more than a week or two before something breaks. Several times in the past I've stepped away hoping that in a month or two the Lindens will work out whatever it is, but eventually this love-hate relationship is going to reach my tollerance limits. Literally years of non-stop bugs begins to wear one down.
They really need a system that allows them to fix bugs without introducing new ones, it just doesn't seem like they're currently capable of doing so. I suspect those of us who pay to enjoy this second life are typically paying more than your average monthly MMO, and while warcraft, age of conan, etc. have their issues, for me they definately have a better track record at working out the big ones, or at least compensating their customers when something breaks in a significant fashion. To be honest, not a DAY has gone by where I haven't had some problem crop up while trying to enjoy second life. Most of the time I just accept it as par for the course, relog, clear cache, or whatever happens to be the workaround for the problem of the moment, but I'm honestly beginning to wonder if it's EVER going to get better.
Ah well, such is second life I suppose. If the Linden's are watching, here's my uneducated opinion, sooner or later something will come along that either is equivilent to or superior to SL. If whatever this alternative is can pull it off with significantly less issues, even if it's only because they have a fraction of the number of customers, SL could find itself in dire straights. I honestly hope that never happens. But I believe it's inevitable at the rate things are going.

Make sure your drivers are up-to-date.

All of them are, on every machine I've tried (well, I'm not positive on the ATI box as it's my brother's computer but he's pretty savy so I expect they are). Thanks for the suggestion though. I'm also up to date on all the available patches, sp1 sp2 and sp3 depending on which OS you're talking about.
I've tried disabling my virus checker, firewall, and even using a web proxy with the clients to see if it made a difference. No such luck. I do PC repair for the family, and administrate a world-wide network of machines so I'm pretty confident it's not the supporting OS or software that's the problem. I suspect it's an issue with the client, or perhaps a combination of the client and something strange being sent from the server. I'm actually in the midst of building a copy of the client myself, I'm not much of a c++ programmer but I am experienced with C so when all else fails try to fix it yourself I guess. Thank you LL for going open source.

If you figure it out post back here or let me know - it's quite a strange-sounding problem.
Good kuck, Tanstaa.

What happens if you create or use an alt with all the exact same stuff that Tanstaa uses (aka skins, hairs, etc?) (Hopefully all these items are trans/copy.) What attachments does Tanstaa wear on a regular basis? Do you have any Advanced/Rendering/Types (& Features) UNchecked? What about Advanced/Character? Any checked?

I've exchanged various bits with a friend, what looks fine on her looks broken on me (more so than say a female skin on a male shape) and my basic simple skin (no tattoos etc.) looks completely normal on her avatar (albeit rather plain). Same goes for hair. I even had her copy my hair and send me the copy, didn't change anything as far as my head is concerned. Still have strange beard/bushy eyebrows/etc. and all-over color from the neck up. I'm thinking something must be broke somehow with my avatar in a fashion that's beyond what you can change with citizen created content. It's as if I've got a texture on my head for hair that no setting available to the avatar editor can change (I did try various hair textures too without affect). The only settings that do have an affect are ones that change color.

I don't think there's anything relevant in the SL files in Settings, but you could try deleting them. You might have to become a furry/dragon/robot/abstract/plantform.

I hate to resurrect an old thread but I have the exact same problem and I desperately need help. I've taken most of the same steps as the OP and I have the same doodle-looking beard and bushy eyebrows texture. When I put on a new skin, the head changes to a random color. The only way to fix the color of my face and head is by changing the color of my hair. The beard and eyebrows won't go away.
Tonight I found the texture of beard and eyebrows. It's the head_hair.tga located at C:\Program Files\SecondLife\character . I would just wipe the beard and eyebrows but that won't fix the color issue. Anyone have any fresh ideas?

have you tried a new bald base? to see if that removes the facial hair?
I remember a female seemed to have that issue and when she put on a fresh new bald base it went away

I think it's an issue with the 1.77 drivers. Going to the 1.75 may help you.

I started having a somewhat similar issue a few days ago, however the variation is as follows:
1. If I put on any kind of "sock", it automatically colors my whole lower body (from bellybutton down). Doesn't matter what sock, what skin, what avatar. It does the same thing.
2. "Boot" foot shapes, does as listed above. Sometimes "shoe" foot shapes will do the same, but not as often.
I have tried everything I can think of. I've updated my GC drivers. I've uninstalled and reinstalled SL. I've cleared my cache so many times I was getting bleary eyed. This doesn't seem to be an exclusive issue with my PC though. I get the same results on my fiance's PC.
