Some nice 512 plots that adjoin my property have just reverted to ownership by Governor Linden after being unsold for some time. The land has not been re-set to no-build, so I'm worried that they might end up being covered with rubbish. The Governor says in his profile that he can't usually answer IMs, so I'm wondering who I should contact to see if the land could be set to no build. I would also be interested in buying this land - how would I go about that? Is it likely to be auctioned off, sold privately to enquirers or just kept by Governor Linden?

It will be auctioned eventually or set for sale to someone on the sim by Guy Linden. Create a support ticket and let them know you are interested.

Since it's the weekend, file a Ticket (unless your Concierage with 24/7 assistance), then try to catch a Live Chat during the week. Be sure to have a reference number for the Ticket and make sure to include Sim name and Co-ordinants in your Ticket and Chat. Both times I've done this (during the week), the land was set to auto-return within minutes. From: Conifer Dada I would also be interested in buying this land - how would I go about that? Is it likely to be auctioned off, sold privately to enquirers or just kept by Governor Linden? LL sometimes will sell directly to land owners that are against plots owned by LL (Gov Linden). I'm not sure the process, but again, filing a Ticket and then following up with a Live Chat would be your best place to start. Live Chat should at least be able to tell you the correct steps and processes to go through. ~Jessy

Thanks. I have filed a support ticket as suggested. Presumably the previous owner of this land abandoned it or their RL payments lapsed.

In the meantime, if it's not set no-build nor auto-return, wouldn't it make sense to fill it up with prims, link them together, and set the whole thing phantom... maybe bury them underground? Or fill it with copy-perm plants? That way at least the griefers won't get to it, though you may have a Big Surprise in your Lost & Found when the support ticket gets handled.

Or fill it with copy-perm plants? I thought of that, but it's complicated because Governor Linden owns other land in the sim including a future highway. So I'd need to make a prim bundle using up all his spare prims for the whole sim otherwise people could still leave burning motorbikes and rotating aircraft on these 3 plots. I'm not sure if I'd be overstepping the mark if I interfered with other Linden land.

Well, I can report a very satisfactory ending to this. I put in a support ticket and one of the Lindens has been along and set the plots to 5 minute auto-return. Thanks - much appreciated.

From: Jessica Elytis LL sometimes will sell directly to land owners that are against plots owned by LL (Gov Linden). having just gone thru this, i was told directly by leo and guy linden that any plot 512 or larger is auctioned even if you surround it. only smaller plots are considered for direct sell. btw ... does anyone know how to see the names of land bidders AFTER the auction has closed? this was do-able on the old system. i can't see how to do it with the new.

In the sim where I come from, we have to hack paths through the prims with machetes. From: someone Well, I can report a very satisfactory ending to this. Glad to know it worked out!

Why and When does Abandoned Land go up for sale??
11-06-2007 07:04
This was a helpful thread, but seemed to lack information I have been seeking, which is how and when does this reclaimed land get set for sale? Considering this is a virtual world, why is the land not set for sale immediately? I am interested in a parcel that just sits and sits (with trash on it) and nothing happens. And when the magic day finally happens where some arbitrary Linden sees this plot on a list and sells it, I will probably be AFK.
Why wouldn't land go on sale immediately when reclaimed? Is this an effort to control the market or something?
Thanks in advance for any help!

this is exactly what i do. i bury a few objects underground until i reach the magic 117 prim limit. another option is to plant some greenery. it can take months. submit a support ticket asking about when it will go to auction (and beg for autoreturn). IM guy linden ask for the land to be put on the auction block, although he doesnt reply anymore it seems. Whenever I see an open-build abandoned plot I normally cover it in free plants up to the prim limit to prevent crap from being put down there.
I seem to see more of these recently, esp. for 16 sq parcels. Seems that some adcutters recently folded up and abandoned their land.

Thanks, Nina. I appreciate the answer. I still do not understand why this isn't an automatic system. Someone stop paying or abandons land... the land gets reclaimed, objects returned, and put up for sale immediately. That can't be hard for an automated system?
The only explanation I can come up with is it is designed to slow land sales down. Sure there might be an initial hiccup, but things would even out. Surely Guy would love a system that automated things??

I have some Governor Linden-owned 16m2 plots very close to me. Can I apply to buy these? I've been getting lots of confusing answers. One person says no, another says yes, and third says maybe These plots still have rotating ads on them, so it's good to know a support ticket should get rid of these. Thanks.

Think of it this way: What harm is there in applying? The answer actually depends on whether your land surrounds it or most of it, AFAIK.

Thanks. they will not sell them to you unless you surround them. but they might put them in the auction queue. however, all linden land is supposed to have auto-return set to 5. it these still have non-linden "stuff" on them, auto-return must be set to 0. if so, contact a linden and ask for auto-return to be re-set.

Auction Land Visible on Map?
11-06-2007 08:39
Other then being vigilant and physically going to the plot, is there a way to tell if something is for sale?
And how long do these auction sales last? 12 hours, 24 hours? days?
Thanks!

Thanks! Auctions usually last 2 days exactly for whole sims, approx 2 days for smaller plots. This may have changed since the auction site was revamped - I've only used it once (for the very first sim auctioned on it though )

Thanks! "for sale" plots show up as yellow on MAP. "auction" plots show up as purple. you can also go to the "auction" webpage and add plots to your "watch list".

Thanks for the quick replies. The Linden plots are only in my vicinity and not even 'attached' on one side, so I'm unlikely to get them. Didn't really want them (and their 3 prims) except to keep ads away.
One non-Linden 16m2 plot is for sale for l$ 10,000!
