An internet based interactive/realtime communication platform, like e.g MSN ™, but with collaboration and 3d visualisation added.

On the basis of LL's takedown of Jokay Wollongong's SL Education site (which I've just found out about ), I'd have to say that SL is an idea with enormous creative potential . . . increasingly run by a pack of utter morons wearing corporate suits and carrying legal briefs. Are these people INSANE????? No, just incredibly stupid. |

Five tonnes of flax. I heard somewhere it was a floor wax and a dessert-topping. _____________________

And a flaming sword that burns all the way down to the pommel. That would be useful at night when the ice-weasels come. Especially if you were trapped under a snow-mobile somewhere. _____________________

That's like calling a restaurant an interactive/realtime communication platform with food added. not really, cos a platform is a virtual thing, while a restaurant is a physical thing. ![]() |

A fascinating microcosm of the societal problem that RL also suffers from and that we never would have predicted.

Second Life is a dreamer's dreamworld in which you can share your dreams with other dreamers (or not).

/me pushes open the door curiously, wandering in to leave a rare mark on almost abandonned forum.
SL is my very own private Eden where I can eat as many apples as I like and yet stay as long I wish because I created my dream and have my dreamer to share it with. /me closes the door and calls her Adam back to her feet with his basket of apples. |

A place to pretend to be someone you're not and find it's who you are. Excellent description! And I agree ![]() |

Second Life is a tale told by an idiot, full of prims, textures, sounds, fury, particles, videos and drama, signifying nothing.
When it first started all it had was sound and fury. The other features were added in later versions, drama being the first addition. _____________________

OK. Summarise SL in a single sentence. You can be cynical, humorous or even affectionate. I am going to cheat and quote someone else. Second Life pretty closely resembles a cult for people that are psychologically weak enough to fall for it. All you that got this far in this thread need to go don your surgical green robes and walk clockwise around the great burning life bonfire slapping the book of tao against your forehead while chanting "Your World Your Imagination" as one with the other slifies. |
