Second World is a place that doesn't exist, inhabited by people who aren't there.

A poorly executed good idea.

I am going to cheat and quote someone else.
"a world that's full of fake tits and real arseholes."

It's full of fake pricks and real ones too.

Personally, I'd say SL is an unmarked, mystery freebie box.. where the contents are different for each person who opens it.

SL is a terribly bad idea for anyone with an imagination or lack of conscience.

On the basis of LL's takedown of Jokay Wollongong's SL Education site (which I've just found out about  ), I'd have to say that SL is an idea with enormous creative potential . . . increasingly run by a pack of utter morons wearing corporate suits and carrying legal briefs.

Are these people INSANE?????

SL is proof that even in a perfect technological utopia, people will still scramble for sex.
Fixed. (^_^)y

To paraphrase old Winnie, "SL is the worst of all possible worlds, except for all the others that have been tried".

If you have to scramble for sex in SL, you're doing it wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong.

I just read about this and as I understand it, there wasn't a takedown exactly but a "trademark" issue. Granted, that is kinda asshatish when the site in question does nothing but promote the use of SL as a platform for education, which seems to mesh pretty well with one of LL's most prominent goals. If it was me, I would argue that the site is nonprofit educational and therefore exempt from rules created for commercial sites.

OK. Summarise SL in a single sentence.

You can be cynical, humorous or even affectionate.

I am going to cheat and quote someone else.

SL is like the book "The Lord of The Flies" - watch how a world without anyone to run it degenerates into the lowest common denominator

Naw. That's real life. In SL, the carrot's not real and neither is the stick. (^_^)y

I don't know if we each have a destiny, or if we're all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze, but I, I think maybe it's both.

Say wouldn't that quote be plagiarism or something?

As a PR move, this was dumb, dumb, dumb. Even Pathfinder, responding with text obviously provided to him by the lawyers, managed to sound embarrassed by it.

This was a site built for the SPECIFIC purpose of promoting and assisting educational endeavours in SL. It was, in other words, "user generated content" (albeit off-platform) of the sort that SL is supposed to be designed for, that was working to help grow a facet of the app that, as you note, LL itself is targeting for expansion. The site was actually REFERRED to by LL itself as a place to go to get help setting up to teach in SL.

And instead of trying to accommodate a mutually-beneficial partnership, these idiots send her a FORM LETTER, demanding that she remove "SL" from the domain and title of the site.

"asshatish" doesn't begin to cover it.

PS. Sorry Smify, I'm not yelling at YOU.

I thought everyone would recognise the source immediately (Forrest Gump). It's from his message to Jenny at the end.

And one of the most profound philosophic statements of what it means to be human on this earth (when taken in entirety). I found it appropriate here too.

I'm still thinking because it's hard for me to say anything in just one sentence so I'll paraphrase what one of my friends has in her profile:

SL is a "do-over" for life.

Thank you all for noticing. I posted quickly last night between winning an important court case (I *love* sticking it up lawyers) and doing a bar crawl to celebrate. It's fixed now I've sobered up.

Pep (I'm tempted to add that the SL *Forums* can be defined as the place where a simple single typo can potentially derail a thread.)

PS Who is Forrest Gump?

ETA I googled him: he's a character in a fantasy about a really stupid but marginally charismatic guy that becomes President of the USA; or is it a documentary - one of a series?
